Reincarnated in the game world ~ A gamer's beginning to [Dungeon job hunting recommendation]-Chapter 641Vol. 11 - - Luck Outbreak - The Rare Boss Appears!
Eden had yet to get the «White Throne» in its possession. We had been borrowing it after leaving some other items as insurance.
It shouldn've been impossible to wager it then, but—"You, and lost to someone like Temple Saber? The sun might as well rise from the west then. Feel free to use «White Throne» as the bait. Make sure to squeeze every penny out of them if anything, alright? Wahahaha." was how the guildmaster of Beast King Galtiger reacted when I informed him of the situation.
There was no mercy for Temple Saber in his tone. He was quite frank about squeezing them out. Either way, that resolved whether or not we could wager the White Throne.
And so, we were here, hunting for a rare boss. I presume the Beast Prince must have wanted the «Sloth» job... wait a minute. He's already having an advanced job, then maybe someone else? ...Never mind. Better I not poke my nose where it didn't belong to.
"And we're at the depth, everyone! The rare boss is a steel-armed gorilla, a melee opponent—«Iron Mountain Boss - Mighty Kong». It's 4m tall, and has quite a defensive skill, so try to parry attacks. It would try to disrupt rearguard by throwing rocks, its movement is fast, and offensive capabilities are strong. The recommended strategy is to whittle down its HP via ranged attacks. Simply speaking, trap it in pincer and viola, that's an easy win."
Since it was the rare boss of Int-high dungeon, that means its strength was comparable to Advanced-low rank dungeon. Its status definitely packs a punch. Fortunately, it was comparable, but not exactly a boss equivalent from advanced dungeons. Plus, it was a solo boss fight. As long as we stick to the plan, that's a no hiccup battle.
In our party, we had three advanced jobs members, and three ranged attackers. Well, Nico didn't have offensive skill, so her attacks counted as regular, but that's something at least.
"Stange, init? I think I just heard Brave-kun saying ‘fighting a rare boss of an Int-high dungeon is an easy win.’"
"It's not strange. I heard the same."
"It’s not something to be surprised at, that's a commonplace thing here. But I am looking forward to our first Int-high dungeon boss!"
"Indeed, I might try going all out."
Nico, needless to say, shared an exasperated reaction. Rina had a wry smile, Lana grinned, while Ester had a thin smile on her face, calm.
"That aside, I see no one's bothering to point out how Brave-kun navigated through the whole path like it's nothing new to him, despite no one clearing it before."
"It's because I'm the one and only Brave~."
"It doesn't explain anything."
Nico appeared to be hung up on some complaint, but none bothered. Right now, everyone had already started to focus their thoughts on the upcoming rare boss battle. Mighty Kong was simply the peak target to defeat considering advanced dungeons hadn't even been explored.
I then addressed everyone, making sure my tone remained clear so as to not give rise to tension.
"Alright then. I will now explain about the rare boss's behavioral pattern, and then blow the «Flute.»"
As usual, the initial was the rundown of details. and then, once prepared, we headed for our rare boss battle.
We took our steps inside the boss room, and—there was no boss.
"Hurray! We're getting a rare boss! Prepare for interception!"
"I am already on it! «Blessing of Guardian Dog»! «Blessing of Safeguard»!"
Yes, I knew it. Our luck was merely playing a long game to gift us at just the perfect opportunity.
Once it was clear whom we would be facing, everyone prepared themselves for battle.
I took the lead, while Lana casted buffs. This was an important step. We wouldn't want to be at disadvantage when the boss pops up, and buffs only after.
Rina and Nico took their position beside Lana, preparing to shoot anytime. Rina's primary weapon was a two-handed magic rifle—Crimson Canon. The rifle was as big as Rina, hanging from her shoulder via a strap. She held the rifle at waist length, and posed the muzzle at the depth of the boss room.
Nico's equipment was a gun and a shield. The shield—«Expandable Shield»—had foldable capability, making it easier to fold in up to three times and store it away. Once completely unfolded, the shield was as big as 1 meter in size, though perhaps due to its foldable ability, it was designated in small shield category.
She had an Expandable Shield rooted to the ground, hiding herself behind it on one knee, her silhouette completely covered by its size. On the hindsight, the shield was immovable once opened, but Nico preferred to stay on one spot and shoot from the safety. For the weapon, she held «Handgun of Black Cat Imprint» in her right hand.
On my side, Ester had long unequipped the carriage, and put on her special equipment. She just needed a cue to begin the offense.
Then, just as we had completed our preparation, the depth of the boss room illuminated in the special effect—the omen of rare boss spawning.
With black, lustrous fur covering the body, and like wearing a metallic cover all over the body, the monster appeared to resemble a cyborg from a glance at first. Just as its title went, the hair was designed in a triangular shape, like the peak of a mountain. The pressure emanating from it clearly displayed the strength of its presence.
The Iron Mountain Beast - Mighty Kong. The rare boss was truly befitting of its title.
As soon as the rare boss spawn, I pointed my index finger at the sky, and played out my first card.
"First move—«Appeal»!"
Taunt. Since I was the sole tank, it was on me to face the aggro of monsters.
"GUURAH-GUURAH-GUURAH!!!"
"Damn it, he's much noisier than I expected!"
The first move made by Mighty Kong was «Drumming». Unsurprising, it was a gorilla after all.
The problem, however, was when said gorilla was covered in metallic fur. Sparks scattered around when it thumped its fist against the chest. The sound of metal clashing was anything but pleasant, like a loud speaker just next to your ear.
This was a self-buff skill with an additional knockback effect. If one wasn't careful, they would be thrown off by the surging soundwaves, and the noise didn't make it any bit easier.
"UGA-UGA-UGA-UGA!"
"Just because you're shouting doesn't mean it's exciting at all! «Aggro Slash»!"
I promptly got into action. As soon as the drumming had stopped, I dashed forward, and used the taunt skill. The timing just after using the first skill made it impossible to use any defensive skill immediately, and to replace it, a huge metallic fist jumped into vision.
I slipped from under it, unleashing my skill.
There, I got it! Now, it's attention and anger was at me. I just needed to keep up with the same tempo. Though, after my first attack, I immediately jumped back, opening space between us. With no other skill interfering, the rare boss was bound to choose an offensive or defensive skill.
"—«Brave Heart»!"
A burst of 'courage' coursed through my body like hot blood. I am going to give my all!
If the opponent surpasses us in stats, then I just have to do the same!
"UGGAAHH!!"
The Giant Gorilla closed the distance, and chained the earlier «Drumming» with another attack «Gorilla Double Sledgehamer». It clasped its hand, and brought it down like a massive hammer. But—that's where my opportunity lied.
"—«Brave Slash»!"
The point against Mighty Kong was once it had used a skill, it would be unable to use a defensive skill for some moments. This was one of the key differences between intermediate dungeon and advanced dungeon—to strategise on how to slip under the opponent's defensive skill.
With "courage" coursing through my veins, I side-stepped with my enhanced agility and slammed by unique skill.
"Gurrahh!?"
A hit, yes! The attack also inflicted a defensive debuff on the Mighty Kong. But with damage and aggro, I was now at the level where the target wouldn't turn in the direction of my party members. And once that was ensured, the party members immediately let loose on the offense they'd been holding on for.
"It's finally my time! Behold my ultimate technique! «Sacred Shining Saber»!"
"«Crimson Bullet»! «Hyper Canon»! «Beam»!"
"Offense, on—"
Our long-ranged attackers jumped into action. Barrage of attacks crashed on the rare boss. With consecutiveS attack, it wouldn't matter if it tried to parry some of them.
"I am not sure if it's the correct way to put it, but there's quite a soothing ring to it when your gun shoots, Nico-san." 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
"I, too, am curious to try it once."
"Hehehe, sure so. I felt the same too. You can try it out later."
As I continued to put my utter attention on the rare boss, I heard some... conversation being played behind my back. Of course, I didn't turn around, lest I lose my focus, but there's no way they're chit-chatting... right? Yeah, it must be my imagination.
Nico's gun, «Handgun of Black Cat Imprint», had a function to randomly change the sound when shooting to «Meow». So, sometimes, the shooting sequence would go like "Pew, Pew, Pew, Meow, Pew, Pew, Meow."
Anyway, it's a rare boss we're fighting, so needless to say, they are... should be focused...?
