Chapter 154: Chapter 154

After some debate we chose to go just the two of us down there, that way we could fly our way with ease and not compromise the ship and the entire crew with it, plus I meant what I said, if anything were to happen to me we must guarantee that someone would still be out there to make things right, and right now separating the group in dangerous situations like this makes sense.

Plus with my griffin body and only Ethan on my back we could smoothly glide down and more easily get a hold of our surroundings without drawing attention to ourselves, even more with my white fur against the cold landscape.

I may not have focused on increasing my Stealth skills since I had already made up my mind to train my defensive skills but I am still taken back when we are spotted only a few moments later, especially since I thought my fur would at least give me some cover against the cloudy cold skies, and like any owl I have a very silent beat of wings.

Still a flash, a millisecond and a glint in our direction, makes my body react and dodge to the side before my mind can make heads and tails out of it.

"Hey there, what the hell was that?" Says Ethan, torn between not wanting to look down and see just how high in the sky we are, to wanting to see what was happening that made me change the course of our smooth descent so abruptly.

Next flash of light I was ready to receive and take in the shape of it a little better, seeing some sort of spear with the metal head glinting over the landscape pass us as I dodge ever so briefly, and a metal net armed on the spear and whipping at the wind.

"Are they trying to capture us?"

It seems that way.

There is no time to talk nor space for explanation, at this distance is already incredible they are able to see us, much less aim at us, but with dexterity and speed we became a very hard target to hit, and yet such attacks prevent me from descending any further and giving them an advance.

After the third spear there is a moment where no other spears are thrown, a stiff quietness as I hold my distance and keep moving to avoid becoming an easy target while thinking how should I close the distance like this.

And just as I was about to change my strategy after the four and perhaps circulate the mountains in search of an opening the attacks completely stop as sudden as they began.

I’m still on guard long after they stop though, frowning at the unfolding events as I drift around, still not sure what to make of this and if it is safe to descend.

The earth shakes with what sounds like an earthquake that makes my fur stand on edge as snow goes up like fog, obscuring our view underneath for long minutes before it clears out and we can see down there again, not knowing what to expect beyond an avalanche.

I narrow my eyelids to see better and am surprised to see that a door has opened up above in the mountains where there were only stones moments ago.

A winged creature comes out of it, too quick at first for me to take a proper look, but as it takes fly in the air it stabilizes its speed and settles down to a smooth beat of the wings to ascend in our direction.

At first I can only identify with some difficulty that the animal is not a bird or a griffin, but as it closes the distance between us the shape comes into view and a golden and blue Pegasus unfolds, the hooves curved in the air as a pair of huge wings takes him and his rider to ride the skies, a magnificent creature indeed but not very well built to take flight, in fact I am confident that I can escape it if need be, especially when a see a glint of golden scales along its neck weighing it down.

Beautiful, deadly, but heavy and slow in the air.

"Evening mister, sorry about the attack, we did not see that this creature had a rider until we were half into it." A man is sitting at the back of such magnificent creature, speaking with Ethan and changing his attitude by seeing an animal like myself as a simple mount and speaking to Ethan and Ethan only as he ignores me completely.

Right, I forgot that, for them, I’m just a simple animal, but it may be interesting to keep it that way... for now.

"Oh, I see, it was quite the scare you gave me!" Ethan catches up with the situation quickly enough and tries to loosen the mood that has been worsening with them attacking us. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

And it does works to some point as the charismatic Ethan talks his way in and the other, even if apologetic, does not seem to feel any guilt at all, empty words in the scheme of things as if coming to test us rather than smooth things out.

"Really, we are sorry about all this, we thought it was a wild beast passing by and we could not let the chance of capturing pass by, however I cannot help but wonder what a gentleman like yourself is doing out here in the middle of nowhere...?"

The blue legs of his stallion kick the air as he neighs, sensing the tension of the conversation increase, staring at me as if it knew I was more than I was letting at.

The silence drags after the question as the man covered in elvish light armor analyzes us up and down, saying but then thinking better than completing his line of thought:

"Are you here for... no, come, I’ll see what I can do for you, in the meantime stay put over the entrance, over there." He points at the no more rocks place and dives towards the same spot, having us follow behind at a safe distance and away enough so that they get in before us and the stone white door has time to close right behind him before I set my paws on solid ground, locking us out without ceremony.

At that we wait, and wait, Ethan getting down from my back at some point and hiding his body from the cold wind beside me as I cover him with my huge wings, until finally the door opens once more in what resembles a small earthquake, the stone looking door rolling to the side as the same man from before comes out among the disturbed snow, takes his helmet and nods towards the entrance, saying:

"Come in you two, we have much to chat."
