Reincarnated into a Snow Griffin-Chapter 75
Even if we had already decided that we were going participate even before listening to the Auction House Owner we too, like the others, had to spend the night there at the many chambers the Phoenix Plaza has.
So at the end of the presentation, seeing that no items would be sold at the moment since they had become, out of nowhere, the prize of something bigger, many cultivators simply left that same night, staying put in their sits and flying back down, however those like us who were interested were guided by the servants to our rooms, pass the wide open corridors that gave us the stretching view of the cloud river below us and the deck of such unusual flying ship.
That makes me stop and stare for a while, logging for home striking me fast and deep, a vision that was so common from us at the Higher Lands is so rare down below, and as much as I still lived high up in the mountains, being among each and every cloud, being part of this cold floating river is just that different, is being one with the skies, is not poking ones head above it but being part of the skies.
"Misters? Is there something wrong?" The servant says, bringing me back to reality, but is Ethan who responds:
"Is alright, my friend here is just taking the view in." The other nods, probably satisfied with the answer, and goes back to walking along the open halls, doors stretching along the wooden wall beside us.
"Are you alright?" Ethan whispers beside me, grabbing my arm and giving it a soft squish in a reassuring way.
I’m not used to this side of him, or rather, any side beyond the mischievous playful one, nor this supportive action of his, always so aware of how I felt despite my best efforts not to it seems, and I’m very aware of just how dangerous all of that can be. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
Getting attached to a human won’t do me any good.
"I’m fine" I say, annoyed at the situation and the hurtful memories, brushing him off, but he has always been the type that, when beaten down, instead of fighting back or running away, would ask you to kick him harder.
Well, at least with me, the stubborn devil.
"Here is your room gentleman, dinner will be delivered here shortly and someone will come in the morning to guide you to breakfast where everything will be explained if you wish to stay." The servant gives a small bow before leaving with small quick steps, and he is barely far enough before Ethan says:
"We will be sharing a room tonight uhm... I wonder if there is only one bed."
I roll my eyes, and ignoring him twist the nob and open the door.
And there they are, two big single beds.
"Tsk, how unlucky."
I raise my browns at him, amused by such childish honest open response, and at that age I did not take him serious for all his playful remarks.
And as unlucky he thinks the situation is for him, for me is even worse as I have not been given enough space to even stretch my wings, and it would be suspicious to sleep with veil and outer clothes on, I think as I pace around the room, checking the bathroom and the beds, no luggage with me since I did not intend to spend the night out, let alone embark on an adventure... sigh, I have to send a wind crane for my master so he does not come looking for me, he always worries too much about my safety.
And I can only think of a few ways of going through this... and all required a degree of trust toward the mischievous devil that is currently throwing himself on the bed, arms at the back of his head and legs up in a single flop, not even taking his shoes off, how unpleasant.
"Shish I’m so tired, we walked a lot today and I had barely enough time to rest since I came back..."
"It was your idea to go out."
He shrugs. "And it has been all worth it, does not mean I would not kill for a shower right now."
"Good thing that we have one then, someone’s life will be spared." Me joking back at him is so unusual that he even sits up to stare at me, and while I keep my posture up and give nothing in return Ethan tilts his head and narrow his eyes.
"What are you up to?"
"Nothing really..." I say, twisting a device on the side that put out the gas that keeps the little flame on the candle lit inside the glass container on the walls, bringing that side of the room into complete darkness.
He does not comment on that but watches from his bed as I make my round around the room, turning off every source of light until we can barely see each other shapes.
"Come on now you are making my expectations grow here, I will start thinking that- Are you undressing? Was there something on the food? Am I dreaming? Are you really-"
"Shut up Ethan." I say, taking my shoes off and part of the outer robe and the veil. "I’ll take the shower first, if you dare turn those lights on I’ll cut it."
"C-cut it?"
"Yes, deep and hard until it falls." I say before turning towards the adjunct room, hearing him give a nervous laugh out, but I knew it would be sufficient for him to not turn the lights on.
And yet I knew it not to be enough to calm my restless mind down, he could still make out things that may be bad for me in the dark, like seeing the outline of my wings in my back, which I thankfully am able to stretch at that moment, popping the bones in a satisfying manner that makes me sigh.
For how much longer will I be able to keep this farce? I think while twisting my long fluffy tail on my side and brushing the fur with the tip with my fingers, hugging it while thoughts threatened to overflow my mind.
So much to think, so much to do... and no will to do them, sigh.
My mind goes back and forth, and the water falling over my head and rolling down my back, taking the grease off and reliving tired muscles, and an idea surges within my relaxed mind in that fertile field for creativity.
That’s why, when I finally get out of there, I have my own cloth belt in my hands, and as I stretch it in front of me I say.
"I have great plans for you Ethan."
And for the first time I manage to make the devil speechless.
