Chapter 58: Blood

"What do you mean?" Barni asked.

He had heard Jung’s trademark slogan when he approached Snowshade.

Still, the way Jung spoke this time sent bugs to crawl on his skin.

"Nothing!" Jung stated casually, strolling into the cave.

<Quest V: Survive the day

<Rewards: 50% progress in your archetype.

This was his new quest notification, representing the threatening feeling he had since arriving in this place. "I doubt goblins are going to cause this much trouble,"

Jung said mentally to his two female companions.

Vex was the first one to answer.

[No matter what, I am going to collect important data.]

"Wow, you are so cold," Jung said with a lowered nose, acting like a sad man. "I might actually die here."

Nero was quick to rebuke him as she said in annoyance. "You are worse than a cockroach. I doubt you can die so easily."

"I am so unlucky. No one is worried about me," Jung said meekly.

As for the team, they walked into the darkness.

Fortunately, Gwen had the appropriate ability, and her hair glowed in pink colour, lighting up the space and revealing the deep path.

Looking around in fear, it was clear that Mira was afraid.

She had only one experience with monsters, and she had been running away at that time.

Jung asked the cohort about the Nightmare creatures.

He even mentioned his argument that the whole situation was a trial from the academy.

Walt, being alive and well, proved his point, but they said nothing, as if it was forbidden to speak about it.

’Is it about the Ruler god again?’ Jung asked himself, observing his teammates.

There was no trace of the nervousness in Ronan, Leora, Astra, and Barni.

They appeared much more collected, showing their experience or resilient minds.

After wandering a bit more, Astra asked in his friendly tone,

"How much do we need to walk?" His every word was carefully selected to appear as harmless as he could.

But he wasn’t doing it consciously.

It became part of his nature, and Jung never stopped monitoring him, knowing that he might be plotting something.

Leora always followed Astra’s steps like a tail. "Where are the ugly goblins you spoke of?"

She questioned Gwen, but her voice differed from her brother’s. It suited her rebel archetype, and Jung had to admit the girl acted perfectly.

"We aren’t far from the destination. The cave isn’t that big, but we might encounter wandering goblins, so you need to be ready. Remember, if I get involved, this team will get disqualified,"

Gwen reminded them of the rules.

Five minutes later, Ronan slowed his step.

Astra did the same thing and said, "There is something up ahead."

They no longer urged the teacher.

She was nothing but a supervisor, and her sole role was to count their points and keep them safe.

The dark walls and silent atmosphere created an eerie scene, accompanied by distant echoes and loud noises that produced distress in the group.

There was no leader selected, yet their coordination should have been flawless.

Ronan was the ruler archetype, but he didn’t dare to act in Astra’s presence.

The caregiver boy wanted to take responsibility for himself; however, it was too late.

"They are close," Jung announced in a whisper, standing on the front line.

He wasn’t someone who would hide his talents; on the contrary, he wanted to take as many kills as he could.

His wish was to farm monsters and improve his archetype.

With no desire to work with others, Jung dashed forward, running towards the sounds he heard.

Knowing that others would follow him, he had no fear of losing his life so early.

Something even more dangerous would appear, and he had to clear the mobs before that.

The party moved exactly the way Jung predicted.

They thought Jung behaved selfishly and dashed after him, hoping to catch up to him.

There was a valuable prize for the winning team.

Even though teamwork played a significant role in counting the points, slaying the monsters was a top priority, and if Jung wiped out the largest number of beasts, he was confident his squad would win anyway.

Deciding on something, he didn’t go back and was the first one to meet the goblins.

It was dark all around him, the foul smell intensified, and the sounds he heard implied the monsters weren’t in small numbers.

Not afraid, Jung observed goblins for the full second.

They were the most common and stereotypical creatures in fiction, and their appearance completely matched Jung’s opinion of them.

However, he wasn’t in fiction.

After leading twelve different lives, he finally encountered familiar monsters, and his blood boiled, thrilled because of the battle that awaited him.

Jung’s skills and Arcs activated in an instant. While others still lingered and watched the goblins, he darted at them.

With an axe in his hand, Shifting Cloud mutating his bones and muscles alike, Jung sneered and called another Arc he had never used before.

<White Beard

-Manifest white threads that can link in-range enemies together. Those opponents are bound and share the same status effect. If one bleeds, all of them will.

Materializing almost ashen strings, Jung commanded them easily and linked two monsters together.

It was his limit for now, but delighted with possibilities, he activated the last Arc, covering his face with a black, smoky mask.

[Rebel Archetype is appointed.]

Said the system in a robotic voice.

And then Jung was upon his enemies.

As others watched how his axe became bloody, Jung danced between enemies.

His every swing achieved one swift death, filling his death counter and the inventory.

Jung’s movement was barbaric.

No fear or hesitation was dictating his force, making his slaughter harmonic and beautiful, even.

His part members were stunned, yet Jung never stopped.

Goblins had clubs, swords, daggers, and spears. All of them were metallic, yet they submitted to Jung’s might.

Giggling, Jung enjoyed the battle.

He had a different kind of strength.

Something even he had never experienced before, and understanding that he had a long way to go, made his heart beat even faster.

An axe in this fight didn’t require feints.

Jung’s physical powers stood way above the Tier II-III monsters. With a two-handed chop, he severed the goblin’s head and darted his eyes, searching for more.

Fortunately, the creatures were in abundance, and he had enough to quench his thirst.

After a wide, sweeping motion targeting the upper torso of the monster, Jung glanced mockingly at the bystanders, as if challenging them.

Before they arrived to steal his kills, Jung heard another familiar sound belonging to the system.

[Ding!]

[There is a message from the god you offended.]
