Chapter 67: Change And Decision

As always, Jung was clinical, and his manner of speech struck a nerve. But Astra could easily contain his feelings.

There was no emotion on his face—only aloofness and coldness as if life itself was boring for him.

Looking at him, when he didn’t even bother hiding his true self, one could easily tell he was different—somewhat inhuman and treacherous.

Astra was a villain tasked with protecting the world, and Jung knew either the Archeons had made a wrong decision or they were onto something far more dangerous.

The Chosen One commented on Jung’s threat, "I have no sentiment nor time to spare on the likes of you. There is only hatred for pests, and I know how to deal with them."

He spoke calmly; not once did his voice lose confidence.

However, there he stood—an even more frightening person.

It was Jung, and he loved to talk, especially when he knew his tongue generated hatred toward him.

"Ronan," he said, ignoring Astra. "I don’t care why you aren’t fighting back, but you can leave him in my hands."

The boy eyed him, examined and considered, and with an agonizing pondering, he was about to withdraw when Astra caught his hand and slashed at him.

It was obvious Ronan could dodge the attack, but he didn’t.

Ronan’s shoulder was cut, and he bled heavily.

Thankfully, it was only a shallow wound meant as a warning. "You are to stay here," Astra said softly, glaring at Jung and pointing his knife at him. "You are the first one on my list."

Nero was completely neglected, but she was still there, standing behind Jung.

"He thinks he is farming aura or something?" she said, darting her eyes around.

"Let him be. He is just one moron, thinking he is controlling the world, when in truth, others are using him," Jung whispered and moved, nearing Astra.

After all this talking, Jung wanted to dispatch him, and the more time went by, the more variables could arise.

So he strolled casually, not caring about Astra’s reaction.

"Stay back!" Astra demanded.

Jung continued, and slightly increasing his speed, he said. "I told you. You are dying by my hands."

"Wait." This time, Astra was confused. "You really are going to try killing me? Don’t you know who I am?"

He was the Chosen One.

Prodigy, the saviour, hope, and was destined for greatness, and Jung was planning to do what? Kill him?

"You are jealous, right? That’s why you hate me."

Astra couldn’t understand why someone who knew his identity would defy him.

Scratching his head, Jung said, completely shattering Astra’s expectations. "I don’t give a fuck. You simply need to die. Why are you overreacting? I thought you were stoic and nothing fazed you."

Too much confidence was the reason for Astra’s actions, and he didn’t give up.

Even if his status didn’t make Jung go away, he could dominate him in other ways.

"Enough chatting," Jung said out of nowhere and blinked on the spot, disappearing from sight.

Astra couldn’t even catch a glimpse of Jung when a kick came, dropping him to the ground.

As for Jung, not waiting for the boy to summon his authority, he materialized an axe in his hands and aimed it at the hand he had stabbed before.

The air was cut by the pressure he invoked, producing a swoosh sound, and just as his sharp weapon was about to cut Astra’s wrist off, Jung felt an immense weight pressing him down, as if asking him to kneel.

"I recognize this presence," Nero said, Jung agreed, and the system confirmed.

[That’s your offended god—they blessed Astra with unique talents.]

"Ruler asshole again?" Jung thought as his offence was intercepted, and he had to fall two steps back.

Rising, Astra threw his knife. There was a light blue-coloured hue dancing around him, masking his body with abundant aura to actually appear like a tough nut.

’The ruler god blessing the caregiver,’ Jung muttered to himself, and lowering his centre of gravity and balancing his feet, he picked the blind spot to attack again.

As Jung’s axe reached its destination and cut Astra’s skin, he was instantly repelled.

This force pushed him from all different directions, making his knees tremble for submission.

Now, the Chosen One towered above him with a calm yet smug expression.

He no longer spoke as if the ability itself was barred from him.

Not breaking his determination, Jung signalled for Ronan to hide.

Then he went back to action, pounding his target once again.

[You need more than that,] the system said, hinting at something.

Acting like he didn’t care, Jung mutated his body to the limit and reinforced every aspect of it.

Yet, it wasn’t sufficient. No matter what he did, Jung couldn’t even scratch Astra, who was just standing there, barely resembling a human.

[You know what you have to do.] Vex was back with her persuasion, even requesting assistance from Nero. [Tell him. He isn’t listening to me.]

But Nero didn’t agree with her. "I think he has a reason for not using that mask thing. Try to understand him."

Liking the way Nero spoke, Jung nodded and said to Vex in disdain, "Why do you care what I do? Stay quiet and let me be."

He was harsh, but it was something he needed to do.

So Jung dashed without giving up and slashed, hacked, struck, and punched at Astra.

Still, the aura blocked his every attempt, and left with no other options, Jung refused to depend on that sketchy Arc, even if it was for ten seconds, and it only worked suspiciously with the hero archetype.

[Ding!] The system announced with no announcement to gather his attention.

"What do you want? I thought you knew me the best. Why are you so adamant about changing me?" Jung asked and cleaved at Astra.

In an instant, when his axe met the impregnable wall, Astra’s hands moved and grabbed him, thrashing him on the ground with a prominent force.

Jung strived to free himself, but punch after punch came at him.

It carried power that effortlessly bypassed the Heroic Barrier, constantly disappointing Jung with this Arc.

Then, in the loud noises, Vex’s answer came.

[Because I know what it means for you to meet Elara again. If you live in the past and can’t forget your promise, it means that you are chained by it. Of course, I don’t know your emotions and the person you made the vow with, but I think they would understand.]

There were unique and new qualities in her voice.

It was as if she evolved, but as Jung was getting beaten up, he had no time to check it.

[And I am not saying it just to make you use this Arc. I have seen almost all of your lives, and I know how much you endured for that promise. It was over 12 lifetimes, right? I think it is more than enough. You should let it go and not be afraid of being something you don’t recognize. It doesn’t mean it’s not you. The actions you commit with the mask are based on my collected data. Believe in me, as I believe in you, and please, kill that bastard.]

Her entire speech was filled with genuine emotions and Jung felt all of them.

Smiling, he said, "You could have at least chosen a better time for that."

Getting punched in the gut and almost emptying his stomach, Jung remained in a dilemma, but before he decided, another familiar but short tone was heard.

[Ding!]

This time, it wasn’t an empty melody.

A new quest notification appeared, guiding Jung’s decision.
