Chapter 98: Fight Against Time

’This is the first time,’ Jung thought.

Every quest that the system gave him resulted from her mysterious identity—the truth she didn’t know or couldn’t share.

However, she acted out of character.

Maybe it wasn’t the first time she had done it, but she had never gone to these lengths.

She even offered him an Arc.

He knew how difficult it was for him to gain them, and with the limitations Archeons posed, it was even harder.

’Is it because we are in god’s domain? And their influence is lessened here?’

Jung was building theories in his head when Vex said casually.

[Don’t think too much about it. I am in a good mood and want some entertainment. That’s all.]

"You are acting weird, and I am all for it," Jung said after dodging fists from the Nightmares.

Then he shifted his concentration to the enemies before him.

"I am coming..." he muttered and disappeared.

A second later, he was behind the monster, aiming at vulnerable points.

Jung’s mind and limbs worked in flawless harmony.

They moved in a way he wanted, and every kill was a marvel—an art that he perfected.

Yet, he didn’t have to dart his eyes constantly.

Hearing proved how useful it could be, and he dodged every subsequent offence without actually seeing it.

It was an amazing venture.

He felt proud and energized, and not wanting to waste precious seconds, he used the momentum of his swing and sidestepped, snapping the axe through the creature.

His hands were capable of cutting any flesh.

No bones could resist him, and Jung sliced them like a piece of paper.

[4:11]

The status screen constantly reminded him of the remaining time.

He barely scratched the entire number, but he was just getting started.

As he became more familiar with his senses, strength, and overall improvements, he let the air fluctuations and the sounds in them dictate his direction.

He targeted unexpected angles, knowing that there were no precautions against him.

His torso twisted to an unimaginable degree.

But it allowed him to be more flexible and agile, further boosting his efficiency.

When the single Nightmare was cleaved, Jung was breaking through another monster before the first one touched the ground.

One after another.

The abominations were dropped to the ground.

Their red light ceased to exist, leaving pools of blood behind.

Jung didn’t let them enjoy death, either.

The poor souls of this new realm couldn’t rest as they soon became the source of his Shifting Cloud progress.

He would not stop anytime soon and showed no mercy.

[3:24]

Not only was he deadly, but he was also untouchable.

The Heroic Barrier was the most useless Arc in his arsenal, as he barely got hit.

And even if someone had managed to hit him in the past, the barrier always shattered, and the only thing it could do was slightly slow down the attacks.

Now that he was more agility-orientated, he wished to evolve it somehow.

There was no such thing as having too much defence.

However, this was the concern for the stronger foes.

He was so good at perceiving space and using it to his advantage after limit testing, he appeared as if he had a delay.

For his opponents, and even for Nero, he faltered.

A more accurate expression would be that he lagged through time, and seizing him proved to be an impossible task for Tier VI monsters to overcome.

Two short minutes later, the blizzard intensified.

Even the mist grew, blocking Jung’s vision, and the sound clogged his ears.

He had to drain more concentration, which intensified his already intolerable headache.

Though there was no giving up in his dictionary.

Fighting through his pain, he became more lethal.

No longer saving his energy, he used more power between his attacks and the steps he took.

[54 enemies remaining. There is only one minute left. I know you can do this.]

A rare event occurred before his eyes.

Vex spoke in his favour, encouraging him.

A big smile was plastered on his face, and as Nero scowled after seeing it, he won against the intense pain, numbing it completely.

[Hero Archetype Selected]

A robotic voice was heard, and Jung was nowhere to be seen.

Even Nero lost sight of him when he activated the Keeping Mask.

The last time the same archetype was chosen, he didn’t enjoy the incident and hated the Arc altogether.

After experiencing it over and over, his viewpoint changed.

He no longer felt it altered his true identity, and with a sword that he picked up from the ground, he defied the evil like a hero.

Those ten seconds showed his true power. freeweɓnovel.cѳm

He exploited his ultimate ability and the results spoke for themselves.

However, without even comprehending, he used the Heroic Barrier.

It wasn’t for blocking.

A new discovery and a better use of it surfaced somewhere deep in his consciousness.

The barrier wasn’t only for defence.

It could be used as a platform of sorts, and it could easily carry his weight.

So he hopped in the sky, gaining a steady and new way to manoeuvre.

There was more to it as well...

Jung controlled barriers like a force, and he could disturb Nightmare’s movement pattern.

He could alter their course and maybe even trip them to the ground.

It could withstand weight, but not the powered smashes.

Ten seconds was enough for him to slaughter all of them.

He used platformers to change his directions and angles to boost his speed, and the sword was a great weapon for him to do it in time.

[49 seconds.]

Then the timer stopped.

No ’Ding’ melody arrived.

Jung was disappointed, but letting Nero hop on his shoulder, he retreated to meet players before the blizzard caught him.

[Congrats, bozo. Now you know how to properly use that Arc, but there is more...]

The system’s voice was quicker to catch up to him.

He was running down the hill, darting through broken weapons to reach his sidekicks when Vex spoke.
