Chapter 1412: The Infamous Black Serpent Group!

[If you want, I can come with you,] Fang replied, realising what William meant. The latter expected strong enemies waiting for him on the other side of the portal, and the expected battle with them would be hard to conclude in a short time.

Fang wanted to help, but William knew he could do nothing to change the situation or make a difference in the high-stakes combat to come. [I’ll take Becky with me, but you have to stay behind and handle the battle here until I’m back.]

[Yet you are taking Lara with you!] Fang didn’t understand why William refused his help and yet would take Lara. To him, it seemed logically inconsistent.

[She deserves to see justice delivered.] Yet, what William said was outside of what Fang had thought. William didn’t ask Lara to come with him for any expected help from her. He wanted her to witness what he would do to the enemies who set her city ablaze!

He wanted her to see justice delivered and feel satisfied—a privilege only Lara enjoyed. Hearing this made Fang unable to refute or argue. He simply sighed and tightened his grip on his weapon, turning back to the portal to continue the defence.

"Now, time to see what lies out there," William said. He took one hour to rest and contemplate the battle scenarios. He could tell there were enemies from the upper realm waiting for him on the other side of the portal. He needed to clear his mind and think about the possible enemies waiting for him.

Knowing about the identity of the Dark Triad gave him some clues about his enemies’ identities. He didn’t witness the era of those three himself back in his past life, yet he had heard many stories about them and others from his master.

It was known that these three weren’t working alone during this period of time. They were infamous and strong, but they were still not strong enough to venture into the upper realm on their own.

According to the faint memories of what his master said about these three, they were working as part of a larger dark group: the infamous Black Serpents!

They weren’t one of the strongest dark forces in the upper realm, but they were considered part of the top one hundred up there at this point in time.

He recalled that his master wasn’t the one who broke this group apart, but rather a strong academy in the upper realm. Still, the group was known to take their missions quite seriously, mobilising close to eighty percent of their top dark masters to execute every mission.

That made them unable to accept more than one mission at a time, yet that made their success record quite amazing. They nearly finished all the missions assigned to them with a success record of over ninety percent—a very remarkable record in his opinion.

"That means I’ll meet up with their top dark masters, a small group of very formidable dark masters..." William muttered while moving in steady steps toward the portal’s direction. On his side, Lara and Becky walked like his bodyguards.

His master didn’t speak much about this group, as they were destroyed long before he even met him. And yet, from what he recalled, there were at least thirty strong dark masters among them, possessing different spirits and spirit elements that would pose a lethal threat to any master.

"Luckily for me, they decided to come here and attack me," William kept muttering to himself, his eyes fixed on the swirling vortex ahead.

"So they abandoned their right to use their spirit bodies. The best they could use now are their spirit elements and techniques. Spirit elements wouldn’t be affected that much by being in this realm, but their spirit power certainly would. After all, without using the purest form of spirit power like that found in the upper realm, their spirit elements won’t show the same terrifying strength they are known for..."

William kept speaking about these enemies in a voice clearly audible to his two companions. He wanted them to hear and learn, to understand the terrifying identities of their foes so they wouldn’t be caught off guard by the sheer pressure of an upper-realm aura.

Lara might not have grasped everything he meant entirely, but Becky did. The more William spoke, the more her thoughts pinned down the exact identity of the enemies William expected on the other side of the portal.

"If what you are saying is true, then they are the Black Serpents!" At some point, Becky couldn’t help but express her growing alarm. "And if that’s true, then we should expect scores of their top dark masters and fanatical followers to be waiting for us on the other side of that portal."

"That’s indeed correct," William slowly nodded, not at all surprised that Becky recognised them from his description. "But don’t fret. We aren’t without enough helpers on our side."

He motioned to the massive monsters surrounding them. When he had decided to move toward the portal, he had called back all the monsters spread across the entire battlefield.

One hundred monsters were now pacing around him and the two girls, forming a living, breathing wall of scales and claws to protect them against any enemy. Those were the cornerstones William depended upon for the upcoming clash.

"Are they enough?" Becky looked in doubt toward the one hundred monsters. Though they were formidable in this city, the scale of the upper realm was different.

"You know we should expect thousands of upper-realm masters. And they aren’t like the ones you fought against when dealing with Lingerie. Those masters stayed in this realm for long enough to adapt to the environmental changes, and they must have known their weaknesses and dealt with them by now."

"Don’t give them more credit than what they deserve," William replied, totally grasping what she meant, yet he didn’t agree with her point of view. He knew the limitations of spiritual physics better than anyone. "Don’t forget we fought against three of their top dark masters already, and they fell under my blade."
