Reincarnation Of The Strongest Spirit Master-Chapter 1422: It’s William’s Thing!
These individuals always moved in a direction away from the nearest monsters, guided by a calculated caution.
Most tellingly, they were well-protected by dozens of elite masters who surrounded them in concentric circles like the layers of an onion.
Whenever the monsters got close, the "onion" would tighten, sacrificing the outer layers to ensure the core escaped.
She had spotted them many times already, yet they had been elusive. Either they blended fast into the endless sea of enemies so that she lost sight of them, or she was simply too far away from Lara to move against them on her own.
Becky wasn't the type to underestimate her enemies. She knew these commanders were on a whole different level, likely possessing hidden trump cards from the upper realm, and she was the type to properly assess her situation realistically before committing to a strike.
But now, as the enemy's portal production slowed, a window of opportunity opened. One of the "onion" groups had been forced into a corner by a cluster of the free-roaming monsters.
"Let's go then," Lara said, her voice growing excited as she notched a specialised piercing arrow. The dejection she had felt earlier was gone, replaced by the thrill of the hunt. "Let's give those bastards some of what they made us suffer through!"
"Be close to me," Becky stressed, her voice cutting through the whistling wind as they accelerated. "Keep your arrows ready. The moment we are close to them, I'll give you the mark, and you rain that spot with everything you've got!"
Becky didn't know how many command groups like these were out there, scattered among the hundreds of thousands of combatants, yet she intended to hunt them down one by one until the enemy's coordination collapsed.
The moment she and Lara drew closer to that specific "onion" group, the air grew thick with killing intent. The enemies felt their approach and immediately read through their intentions.
"They are moving lots of enemies to stop us!" Becky shouted, her eyes locked on the robed figures attempting to slip away into a denser cluster of infantry. "Start using the arrows! Don't give them time or space to run away!"
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Lara was more than prepared. The moment Becky shouted and pointed toward a direction at the far front, Lara unleashed a rhythmic volley. She launched dozens of spirit-fused arrows all over that area, then strategically around its perimeter to cut off any lateral escape routes.
The explosions were devastating. Lots of arrows detonated fast and fiercely, eating away at the ranks of the shielding infantry.
Their path, which was supposed to be obstructed by a wall of bodies, suddenly cleared up as if a giant scythe had swept through the crowd.
With the obstruction gone, Becky and her vanguard of monsters caught their pace, their speed doubling.
"Leave them to me," Becky roared, her combat instincts taking over. She delegated the task of handling the surrounding, closing-in enemies to Lara.
Becky herself lunged forward with five monsters acting as a single, cohesive death squad. They landed heavily on the heads of the group they were chasing, and the killing spree began in earnest.
The enemies were prepared for this level of aggression, but they were not prepared for the sheer weight of Becky's fury.
Lots of defensive arrays were activated in an instant, and precious defensive treasures from the upper realm were burnt out and shattered in the space of a few minutes.
Yet, nothing—neither ancient shield nor high-grade spirit tool—managed to stop Becky or the monsters.
"Die, you filthy bastards!" Becky roared, her aura flaring until it was blinding. She was unstopped by anything the defenders threw her way, her massive sword cleaving through the air and the heads of her enemies with terrifying ease.
There was a group of twenty masters at the core of this unit—middle-aged men mostly, with a few older ones whose eyes reflected a lifetime of cold calculation.
In their own realm, they might have been considered formidable powerhouses, lords of their own domains. But down here, under the crushing restrictions of the lower realm's laws, they were all at the same level of strength as the people they looked down upon!
With the overwhelming assistance of the monsters, there was no one who could truly threaten Becky or Lara.
The group fell with no suspense, dying fast in mere minutes. Every counter-spell they tried failed; every escape scroll they attempted to ignite was slapped down by the monsters' oppressive presence. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
"What are you doing?!"
Just as the last of the elite guard fell, Becky shifted her attention toward the ongoing fight around them, expecting to see Lara fending off the next wave of infantry.
However, as she moved with her small group of monsters to clear the immediate vicinity, she noticed exactly what Lara was occupied with.
Lara was stooped over the corpses, her fingers moving with practised, lightning speed. She was systematically collecting rings, storage pouches, and high-grade gear from the dead bodies of the group Becky had just slaughtered!
"It's some sort of tradition in our guild," Lara coughed, feeling a little embarrassed under Becky's bewildered stare. She didn't stop her work, however. "It's... It's a William thing."
"..."
Becky stood silent for a moment, her sword still dripping with the blood of upper-realm masters. She suddenly recalled how William had done this exact same thing every single time they killed enemies from the upper realm.
She hadn't thought much about it before—attributing it to his eccentricities or the needs of a porter—but hearing it described as a "guild tradition" and watching Lara do it with such clinical efficiency made Becky feel weird. It was as if they were cleaning up a dinner table rather than a battlefield.
"That William… He knows what's good for him," Becky inwardly sighed, the realisation of the logic behind the habit finally sinking in.
She knew why William had developed such a routine. Claiming loot from upper-realm masters was a once-in-a-lifetime chance for any master from this lower realm.
