Chapter 1434: Why Choosing Anjie Is the Best Choice!

William led the charge, a streak of white light followed by a hundred shadows of death, rampaging through the enemy encampments with a ferocity that defied belief.

It didn’t matter how many enemies were gathered or how fortified their positions were. Against William and his monster vanguard, not a single master stood a chance.

He moved through the valleys like a natural disaster, extinguishing resistance before the enemy could even draw their weapons. In a few days of relentless hunting, the entire region was purged.

Those enemies who weren’t caught in the slaughter fled into the wastes, driven by a primal, soul-deep dread.

The news of the "Scary Master of the Fox Guild" arriving in the North spread like a plague. To the enemies who had plotted against him, William was no longer just a rival; he was an inevitability.

Many chose to abandon their posts and equipment, running as fast as their legs could carry them in a desperate bid to escape with their lives.

Only the normal masters and common folk were left behind. William looked upon them with a complex gaze. He knew they were the usual victims of war, the ones who paid the highest price in any conflict, regardless of time or place.

However, he also knew that their suffering was nearing its end. As the man destined to lead the entire continent, he intended to usher in an era of peace and prosperity that would make the horrors of this war a distant memory.

Once the "annoying pests" had been cleared from the map, William returned to the fortress. In the short time he had been gone, the shadows of a truly grandiose city were already taking shape. The construction was proceeding at a pace that went beyond even his wildest expectations.

"They aren’t just building a city, William. They are going to build a capital!"

Becky found him on one of the high ramparts, her three shadow-bound Dark Masters following her like silent, obedient ghosts.

She had wanted to join him in the clearing of the valleys, but William had asked her to remain behind to act as a final line of defence if the construction was ambushed. Luckily, his fearsome reputation had been enough to keep the site secure.

"I can’t wait to see it finished," William remarked, using his spirit sense to scan the expanding foundation.

He was deeply satisfied with Anjie’s performance. She was treating this task with a desperate, holy intensity. As a leader who had lost her kingdom, she knew she was standing on a sinking ship; William’s offer was her only life raft. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

Fang had reinforced this by reminding her of Lara’s rising prestige. If Anjie wanted to remain relevant in the new world order, she needed to build something that rivalled the glory of her fallen capital.

Anjie’s vision was breathtaking. She hadn’t just planned for a city to surround the fortress; she was reshaping the very mountain itself.

She ordered the ground to be dug and terraced, creating concentric levels of urban development that spiralled upward, with the black fortress sitting at the highest point—the true heart of the North.

To ensure this ambitious design didn’t become a strategic liability, she expanded the city limits far beyond William’s original projections.

The "Northern Star" was becoming a sprawling metropolis of stone and spirit, a city that could rival the capital of the Novice Kingdom and perhaps even surpass it in both beauty and defence. Standing on the rampart, William looked out over the rising walls and knew that the North was finally under his heel.

William stood on the high parapet, his eyes sweeping across the sprawling construction site that seemed to pulsate with the energy of thousands of workers.

He knew that if the city began on such a colossal scale, its growth over the next few years would be exponential. He mentally compared it to the trajectory of Lara’s city, which had nearly tripled in size under his guidance.

Even the town in the Scorching Lands, which he hadn’t visited in some time, had reportedly blossomed into a small city of significant repute. But this—the Northern Star—was designed to be a titan from its very first stone.

"She will consume a staggering amount of resources and time to finish this," Becky noted, leaning against the cold obsidian of the battlement. She pointed toward the foundation trenches that stretched toward the horizon.

"In any other era, such ambition would be a virtue. But we are in the middle of an epic war. This fortress is situated in the very heart of enemy territory. If she takes too long to solidify her defences, we are essentially building a giant target for a counter-offensive."

"Not for her," William said decisively. He didn’t even pause to weigh Becky’s concerns; he had already calculated the risks. "She has the entire population of a fallen kingdom at her back. She will move every master, every soldier, and every labourer from her previous lands to this spot. The largest gatherings of enemies in this region won’t pose a threat to her now; I’ve already cut away their sharpest fangs during my sweep of the valleys. And..."

"And you intend to leave a few of your monsters behind to watch over her," Becky finished his thought, a wry smile playing on her lips.

William nodded slowly. "It’s time to end the mutated monster disaster in the south, but I don’t believe we’ll need the full strength of my hundred monsters to accomplish that. Ten will be more than enough to act as a deterrent and keep this construction site safe from any local threats."

With a casual wave of his hand, he motioned to ten of his most terrifying beast-servants. The monsters, towering entities of shadow and lethal intent, bowed their heads and began to descend toward the lower terraces of the fortress.

"Never took you for being the sentimental type," Becky said, rolling her eyes. She felt a twinge of something—perhaps irritation—at the special privilege William seemed to be affording Anjie.
