Chapter 1433: Giving It to Anjie!

To tell Fang the truth would be to show him a treasure he could never touch; it was safer to let him believe it was a relic of a lost age, lest the old warrior suffer a heart attack from the sheer cost of it all.

"This was the primary base of the enemy commanders," Lara interjected, stepping forward to bridge the gap.

She began to summarise the harrowing events of the fortress’s fall for the girls and friends who had just arrived, detailing the battle at the mountain’s base and William’s infiltration.

Beside them, Becky remained a silent, watchful presence, the three Dark Masters standing in a state of visible tremor and fear behind her, their wills bound by the golden tattoos on her wrist.

"So... you want to take advantage of this pre-built marvel," Fang mused, nodding slowly as the tactical brilliance of the plan sank in.

"Turn this spot into the guild’s northern anchor and launch an invasion of the Northern Kingdoms from their own backyard... Interesting. I like it. Let’s head back, gather the necessary resources, summon more masters, and bring the labourers needed to make this a reality!"

"Wait," William said, turning to look at Lara before his gaze shifted to a young woman standing near the back of the group. "Repairing the city back home is a priority. Lara will be stretched thin handling the reconstruction of her own territory. Therefore, I want Anjie to take over the command and development of this fortress."

"Me?!!" Anjie gasped, her hand flying to her chest in genuine shock.

The other girls in the circle directed looks of sudden envy toward her. Many had whispered that Anjie’s influence would suffer a permanent decline following the tragic fall of her kingdom.

She was a princess without a throne, a leader without a land. But in a single sentence, William had restored her status, elevating her to the governorship of the most formidable fortress on the continent. It seemed she was destined for a grand role despite the setbacks of the war.

William’s choice was not born of mere empathy, though he did feel for her. He was a cold pragmatist. He needed fresh masters to populate this base—large numbers of them, and quickly.

The only pool of high-quality masters available on short notice was the remnants of Anjie’s fallen kingdom. They were displaced, hungry for a home, and fiercely loyal to her.

Furthermore, he needed people with the specific experience of building on a monumental scale. Lara’s city was the obvious choice, but it was currently a ruin that required every available hand for its own survival.

The second-best choice was the populace of Anjie’s former capital. Those people hadn’t just built towns; they had built a world-class capital city. They were the architects and stonemasons of an empire.

Anjie was also the most well-rested leader in his inner circle. Because her kingdom had fallen early and suffered the least from the subsequent mutated monster tides, and because it had been devoid of Dark Master camps, her forces had played a minimal role in the war so far.

They had acted as a reserve, reinforcing others and helping reclaim Lara’s city. Now, they finally had a mission of their own.

"I’ll stay here then to help her get settled," Fang added, catching the subtle glint in William’s eye. He realised the hidden intention: William wasn’t just building a base; he was giving a displaced people a new heart, and he was doing it in a way that secured the Northern frontier forever.

"First, we need to move a significant population here," Anjie said, her eyes sweeping over the dark, imposing silhouette of the fortress and the jagged terrain beyond.

She was already mentally calculating the logistics of food, shelter, and sanitation. "William, did you scout the surrounding area? What lies beyond these immediate peaks?"

"I’ll leave the fine details of the scouting to you," William replied with a calm, enigmatic smile. He was confident that as she pushed outward, she would find plenty of trouble waiting for her.

The enemies hadn’t chosen this remote, desolate location to be their primary nerve centre by accident; it was a place of natural defences and hidden dangers.

Yet, no matter what risks lurked in the frozen valleys or the shadow of the peaks, William was certain that Anjie, backed by the remnants of her kingdom, could crush any opposition.

With the immediate crisis salvaged, the gathered group began to disperse to their respective duties. The thirty-five leaders who had arrived through the portal returned to their posts to lead their forces in the final mop-up of the continent. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

Lara, meanwhile, threw herself into the monumental task of rebuilding her shattered city, her heart set on restoring the home she had nearly lost.

William, however, did not hurry to leave. He remained at the fortress, a silent overseer during the chaotic birth of a new era.

He waited patiently as Anjie began to funnel thousands of masters through the portals, followed by a tidal wave of labourers, architects, and scholars.

These people immediately set to work, fanning out across the landscape to study the soil, measure the winds, and map out the blueprints for a grand city—a place William had already named in his mind: the Fox Guild’s Northern Star.

The early scout reports arrived within forty-eight hours, and they were exactly as William had anticipated. The region was far from empty.

Thousands of the enemy remnants—shattered units from the Dark Master camps and rogue mercenary bands—were stationed in the surrounding valleys. They had formed a loose, jagged perimeter around the mountain, making the new base look more like a trap than a sanctuary.

"I’ll go and clear the largest gatherings," William announced before Anjie could even begin to formulate a military solution.

He didn’t wait for a response. He summoned his one hundred high-tier monsters—beings of nightmare and concentrated spirit power—and moved out. They acted as a single, deadly unit of destruction.
