As they moved toward the monster gate, the old master took this rare chance to speak privately with Fang. He wanted to peel back the layers of the mystery that was William.

He had already questioned almost everyone he met who seemed close to the young prodigy. The girls—Berry, Sara, Lara, Lina, Ro—had all sung his praises with a devotion that bordered on worship.

Even Becky, the most pragmatic of the bunch, spoke of him with high regard. Yet the old master could easily tell that most, if not all of them, held deep romantic affections for him. Their views were colored by their hearts.

As for the other faction leaders, they spoke of his brilliance, but they were relatively new to the upper echelon of the Fox Guild. They saw him as a legend, a figurehead. Fang, however, was different. He was experienced, battle-hardened, and seemed to possess enough grounded sense not show favorability based on fleeting emotions or rumours.

"William? He is a hard fellow to read through," Fang sighed when he heard the old master's inquiry. He easily read through the lines of the veteran's curiosity.

"Imagine someone who looks the age of your grandson, yet acts and behaves as if he were way older than you. He shows experience that far exceeds his years—and honestly, it exceeds the world he lives in.

I swear he gave me the feeling many times that he has seen the worst the world has to offer, much more than I ever have!

Yet, he is a genius without equal. He knows exactly what to do, when to do it, and he has a vast knowledge of almost everything—even things you've never heard of or thought possible!"

"That's… Exactly how I feel about him," the old master replied, his surprise evident. It was startling to hear his own private thoughts echoed so accurately by a warrior from a lower realm. He paused at the threshold of the gate, his eyes turning serious. "But he is from this world still, right? You've known him since his rise?"

Even if he had received a mountain of confirmations regarding William's origins, the facts simply refused to align in the old master's mind. It defied all logic. How could someone from this shallow, lower realm be so adept and experienced in matters of the upper realm?

How could he possess knowledge that even high-ranking elders in the upper realm lacked, specifically regarding the inner workings of the Fox and their elusive, terrifying force?

"Let me give you some honest advice," Fang said, his voice cutting through the thick silence of their march. He could easily read the disturbed thoughts churning behind the old man's weathered brow.

"When you gain an ally like William, never question his secrets too deeply. Everyone has their share of hidden things they'd rather not bring to the light. Instead, thank your good luck that you ended up by his side, rather than standing opposite him as his enemy."

The direct, slightly blunt words were a shock to the old master. He had spent his entire life in a hierarchy where power and lineage dictated respect, and for a moment, he bristled. But then, a cold wave of clarity washed over him.

He realised that, perhaps subconsciously, he had been treating William with a haughty air—the typical attitude of a superior master from the upper realm looking down upon a talent from the lower world.

Yet, he was the one getting the better end of this deal. William was the only person currently holding the fate of the entire Blue Purgators force in the palm of his hand.

The old master suddenly realised that if he pushed too hard, if he pried too deep and offended a person of William's calibre, the consequences for his force would be catastrophic.

It was exactly as Fang described: he needed to cherish the destiny that had thrown William into their path, rather than letting suspicion turn a formidable ally into a nightmare of an enemy.

"I apologise," the old master said. It was a rare moment of humility, and he sincerely meant every word. "It's just that I've never encountered anyone like him in all my years. It has left me hanging in a strange space between disbelief and doubt."

"Don't worry about that," Fang said, his tension breaking into a sudden, boisterous laugh. "We've all felt the same way around him. I'd bet even the most loyal, die-hard girls by his side felt that same doubt at some point.

And yet, we are all profoundly appreciative of his presence. He fights for our lives, and more than that, he makes us dream about things we never dared to imagine before. Like… Going to the upper realm, for example."

"He intends to bring you with him?" The old master wasn't surprised that William planned to ascend. In fact, he was convinced that every second William spent in this lower realm was a tragic waste of potential, not just for the boy, but for the balance of power in the upper realm as well.

"Not only me," Fang said, a grin of pure pride spreading across his face. What he was about to say next would have been considered the wildest, most delusional statement in his world's long history only months ago.

"He intends to bring a massive portion of the Fox Guild's elite masters with him! He plans to help thousands of people rise to the upper realm in a single, massive leap. It's incredible, isn't it?"

"..."

The old master had entertained his own wild theories about William's ambitions, but this exceeded his most extreme estimations. It wasn't just the idea of more masters joining the upper realm; that happened on a daily basis as individuals reached the peak of their respective lower worlds.

What was different—and truly terrifying—was the fact that these masters would all belong to the same unified force. This implied one simple, world-shaking fact: William had no intention of starting with a clean slate upon his ascension.

He intended to continue his work as the Fox Guild Master in the upper realm, arriving not as a lone petitioner, but as a sovereign leading a ready-made army.
