Chapter 147: UGLY OR CUTE

Few minutes back before Logan entered the hunter’s guild____

Many hunters were gossiping among themselves, sitting in a group in the main hall inside the hunter’s guild. Some were munching food, while some were bragging about how great they were in their recent raids.

"So boss, when are we going for our next raid?" Ronald asked, sitting at a table with all his team members.

"Not so sure. We can raid smaller dungeons for now. But before we go for any higher one, we at least need to hire two or three more hunters in our party," Gideon said with a quiet, unreadable expression.

"But we are already five now." Ronald glanced at their new party member, Luna. Luna Hummeir, who just got her hunter license a week back.

"Yes. And that won’t be enough in any way. We can only go for lower dungeons now," Gideon said. "Like D-class at best. Anything above that, and we may not even come back alive."

"Oh come on, uncle. Why can’t we go a bit higher? It’s not that serious, is it?" Luna said.

Luna’s father, Barnard Hummeir, was one of Gideon’s closest friends. That’s why he had arranged for his daughter to be in his team.

"No we can’t. Recently, monsters have started acting strange." He paused a bit before continuing, "Two weeks back we got a report from Leo’s team. That they faced an orc that was capable of strategizing. And..." he was about to continue but just then the hunter’s guild door creaked open. And a young boy walked in with a mask on his face.

Leo’s eyes locked in that direction. Noticing Leo’s gaze, Luna turned her head as well.

"That’s the kid who beat that C-class hunter, Medona, right?" she asked with enthusiasm. That day she was amazed to see Logan fight. She wanted to approach him and talk with him a bit. But decided against it later on. And without her even noticing it, a slight blush flashed across her face. But Melissa, sitting beside Jessi, noticed it right then. Both of them were party members under Gideon.

Nagging at her elbow, Melissa whispered in her ear, "Luna, why do you seem to be blushing?" She giggled lightly.

Luna snapped back to reality. "I’m not! Don’t be ridiculous."

"Oh, sure you’re not," Melissa said, grinning. "Your ears are redder than the fire burners here."

"It’s just warm in here," Luna muttered, turning her head away.

"Mhm. Warm only when a certain masked boy shows up?"

Luna glared at her, but the blush refused to leave. She bit her lip and stayed silent...any more words would just dig the hole deeper.

Within a few minutes...

Logan was done with his mission report. Just when he was about to leave, Leonard approached him and asked him if he had decided to join his party or not. And Logan’s reply didn’t make his mood any better.

Leaving behind a line that felt more like a threat than advice, he simply turned and walked away.

Noticing this in Gideon’s table, Ronald leaned forward. "Why don’t we hire him instead? Then we’ll only need one or two more to form a full squad."

From the side Luna suddenly added, "Yes, we should." But then she soon realised she had sounded too obvious.

All eyes in the table turned toward her. Not because of her suggestion but the eagerness in her voice. Luna bit her tongue again and started drinking water from her glass, acting like nothing happened.

Melissa could barely hold her laughter. The others, unaware of the real reason, returned to the topic.

Jessi then raised her doubts. "He’s just a kid. What can he possibly do?"

"You know nothing," Ronald shot back instantly. "He’s a kid but already a C-class hunter. And you know how long he’s been active? Just six days. And in that short span of time, he has cleared nine E-class dungeons. Alone. Didn’t you just hear what everyone started murmuring the moment he entered?"

Jessi’s lips parted slightly, but she didn’t say anything else. Ronald, who was usually known for being reckless and loud, had actually said something logical. Maybe for the first time in his life. It made everyone at the table pause for a moment.

Gideon had been quiet the whole time, arms crossed. But deep inside, he was thinking the same thing as Ronald. He had already considered recruiting Logan too. In fact, he had already tried once earlier. But Logan’s short response back then had made it sound like he wasn’t that interested. And six days had already passed. If he had any intention of joining, then he would have already joined by now. He thought, maybe Logan was more interested in joining Leonard’s party.

Gideon didn’t know that it was actually the opposite. He was just tempering and preparing himself first.

Meanwhile, Logan walked to an empty table in the far corner and sat down. He had first wanted to leave right after his report was complete, but then changed his plan.

He hadn’t eaten all day. And now that the tension from the last dungeon was gone, his stomach finally growled.

He ordered a simple plate, grilled meat, bread, and a glass of milk.

As he waited, he leaned back slightly, listening to the low buzz of chatter all around.

He didn’t say a word. But he could feel the stares.

And he could tell....most of the hunters were actually fantasizing about him.

Like how come a kid became a hunter and so good at that. Was he really a kid? Why was he wearing a mask.

"I think he has an ugly face and that’s why he is too ashamed to show it." One blabbered.

"No way. Maybe he is just too cute and doesn’t want to get mobbed." A female hunter beside him protested. Most women naturally loved kids. They wanted to adore them like dolls.

Amidst the chatter and murmur Logan simply kept waiting until his lunch soon arrived. He was just about to start but just then someone came and stood beside him.

It was Elizabeth.
