Fridolf stopped a few feet in front of us, his sword hanging loosely by his side, his cloak stained dark. He looked at the bodies around us and gave a slow, amused clap.

"Well," he said, his tone dripping with mockery. "You truly are ruthless. You’ve proven yourselves to be the sons of my dear brother."

Kael growled, stepping forward. "You call this praise?" His voice was sharp, shaking with rage. "You led them here. You sent them to kill us!"

Fridolf tilted his head slightly, that wicked smile still on his face. "And why shouldn’t I? The Alpha’s position you hold... it was mine. It should have been mine. Your father stole it. And you, his precious sons, kept it from me."

Kael’s hands clenched. "You’re lying," he hissed. "You...."

He didn’t finish. He lunged forward, his claws flashing. I moved too, but Damon grabbed Kael by the arm before he could reach Fridolf.

"Kael, stop!" Damon barked.

But Kael’s voice broke with anger. "He betrayed us, Damon! He... I told you guys that you can’t trust him!"

Fridolf laughed, cutting through his words. "Oh, you really don’t know, do you?" He stepped closer, his boots splashing in the blood on the ground. "You don’t even understand why your father died."

I stared at him, my heart hammering in my chest. "What are you saying?" My voice came out quiet, but it carried. "We know what happened. You made us..."

Fridolf smirked wider. "I mean, my dear nephews, that while my brother gave you the reason..." he tapped his chest "...I gave you the sword."

Damon’s eyes hardened. "You... planned it?"

Fridolf clapped again, mocking. "Ah, so now you begin to see. Yes, I planned it. I made sure your father died by your hands. You were just too blind to notice."

Kael took a step forward, his voice breaking. "You made us kill our father..."

"And you’re proud of it?" I demanded. My voice shook, not just from anger but from something colder. Betrayal. The kind that cut deeper than claws ever could. "You destroyed everything."

Fridolf spread his arms. "Destroyed? No. I restored order. I should have been Alpha from the start. Your father knew it. The council knew it. But he took it from me. You call me a traitor, but tell me, what would you do if your birthright was stolen?"

Kael let out a bitter laugh, almost in tears. "Is that why you did all this? Just for a throne? For power?"

Fridolf’s grin widened. "Power is what defines an Alpha, my boy. Not birth. Not blood. Strength."

Damon’s voice came calm but cold. "Strength doesn’t come from betrayal."

Fridolf chuckled. "Spare me your sermons, Damon. You speak of betrayal like you’re innocent. Did you not betray your own father when you cut him down?"

Damon’s jaw tightened. "We were deceived."

"Were you?" Fridolf asked softly, taking a step closer. "Or did some part of you want it? Did you ever think that maybe, deep down, you wanted him gone so you could rule?"

Damon didn’t answer. His fists shook.

I stepped closer beside him. "You’re sick, Fridolf. You twisted everything. You made us monsters."

Fridolf smirked again, his eyes gleaming with something cruel. "No, Rowan. I simply revealed what was already inside you."

Kael couldn’t hold it anymore. "Enough!" he shouted, and lunged again. His claws sliced through the air, but Fridolf dodged easily, striking him across the face with the hilt of his sword. Kael fell to his knees with a growl of pain.

"Kael!" I shouted, moving forward, but Damon caught my arm.

"Wait," he said quietly, his voice low and dangerous. "Let me."

He walked toward Fridolf slowly, his eyes burning with rage and grief. "Tell me something," he said. "Was that why you killed our child, too?"

The question hit like thunder. The air went still.

Even Fridolf’s smile faltered for a moment.

Then he laughed. A cold, empty sound.

Damon’s voice broke. "You killed an innocent child."

Fridolf’s eyes glinted. "You had no right to be a father when you killed your own. Blood for blood, it’s only fair."

That was it. Damon moved like lightning, his fist crashing into Fridolf’s jaw. Fridolf stumbled, then snarled, slamming his elbow into Damon’s chest, sending him to his knees.

Kael tried to rise, but Fridolf kicked him back down. "Stay down!" he barked, his voice deep and filled with venom. "You have no right to question me!"

He turned to Damon again, raising his sword. "I will kill you today and take what was mine."

But before the blade could fall, Damon caught it, his eyes glowing with fury. "You’ll pay," he growled, forcing himself to stand, blood dripping from his mouth. "For every sin. Every death. Every lie."

Fridolf laughed, backing away a few steps, his guards moving in behind him. "Then bring your A-game, boy."

The air was thick with smoke and blood. Damon’s growl rumbled beside me, Kael’s claws already slashing through another man. The sound of tearing flesh and snapping bones filled the courtyard again.

"Don’t let him escape!" Damon shouted, pointing toward Fridolf.

I followed his gaze. Fridolf stood at the far end of the field, calm amid the chaos, like a viper watching from the grass. His men fought around him, shielding him from every side, but his eyes were fixed on us.

Kael roared and charged forward. Damon followed, his own wolf form tearing through two men who stood in his way. I came right behind them, claws out, blood roaring in my ears.

"Fridolf is mine!" Kael shouted.

"No," Damon growled, slashing through a guard. "He’s ours!"

I didn’t speak. I couldn’t. My throat burned with rage too deep for words.

Arrows hissed through the air, and one struck Kael in the shoulder. He howled, staggering. I turned, ripped the archer apart, then spun back toward Fridolf. He was smiling, smiling like this was all a game.

I ran. Fast.

Fridolf’s guards tried to block me, but I was too fast. I tore through one’s throat, ducked under another’s blade, then lunged forward...

And I reached him.

"Fridolf!" I roared, leaping, my claws aimed at his chest.

He moved faster than I expected. His sword flashed, silver under the moonlight.

Pain exploded in my stomach.

I gasped, looking down. The blade had gone straight through me.

Fridolf leaned in close, his face twisted in a wicked grin. "There you are, nephew," he whispered, his breath cold on my face. "Just like your father, brave, stupid, and far too late."

He twisted the sword.

I roared in pain, my claws clutching his arm, trying to rip it away. Blood poured down my side, warm and heavy.

Damon’s voice thundered behind me. "Rowan!"

Kael was already charging. He slammed into Fridolf, sending him stumbling back. I fell to my knees, gasping, clutching the wound.

"Rowan, stay down!" Damon shouted.

"I’m fine," I growled, though my vision blurred. "Kill him."
