I Faked My Death—Now I Have to Tame the Crazy Men I Left Behind-Chapter 35 - 33: Twin Sandwich Cookie
Mia Grant was surprised. ’A guy as withdrawn as Felix Sinclair is actually pursuing someone?’
’Did the sun rise in the west?’
"This Felix Sinclair is so handsome. To think there are two identical, perfect faces like this in the world!"
Her roommates, thinking Mia Grant didn’t know, kindly filled her in. "The campus heartthrob whose WeChat we asked for in the cafeteria the other day is Felix Sinclair’s younger brother, Ian Sinclair!"
"And they’re twins!"
Mia Grant blinked, unimpressed.
The room fell silent.
Realizing what was happening, Mia Grant played along under her roommates’ expectant gazes, letting out an amazed gasp. "They’re actually twins! Who would’ve thought! What a crazy coincidence!"
"Right? Right? Kitty, you think it’s unbelievable too, don’t you!"
Mia Grant nodded vigorously. "Totally."
"We also heard that Serena Grant, Felix Sinclair, and Ian Sinclair were high school classmates! I don’t know if it’s true, but if it is, wouldn’t that mean Felix has had a crush on Serena since high school?"
’Hmm...’
Mia Grant touched her chin, lost in thought.
’Serena Grant was indeed at the same school as them, and so was I.’
’Serena Grant transferred in during her senior year, right into the class next to mine—which was Felix Sinclair’s class.’
’So, it’s not like he didn’t have the opportunity for a secret crush.’
’Although the Sinclair brothers’ romantic plotlines were a bit vague in the original novel, their entanglement with Serena Grant did indeed start back in high school.’
’Later, the two brothers even came to blows over Serena Grant.’
’It was a classic, taboo-lite drama of brothers fighting over the same girl, who was caught in the middle. Because of that, the Sinclair duo was extremely popular among the male leads.’
"Someone on the forums even said that Felix Sinclair only came to Jynsia U for Serena Grant, and that he even gave up a guaranteed admission spot to do it."
"If it were anyone else, I might not believe it, but with Felix Sinclair, I feel like he’d totally do something like that!"
"He just seems like such a die-hard romantic!"
Nearby, her roommates were still chattering about Felix Sinclair.
Mia Grant twirled a pen in her hand, her gaze unfocused, lost in thought.
"Kitty... Kitty!"
Suddenly, the roommate sitting beside her jabbed her insistently.
CLACK. The pen fell onto the desk and rolled to the floor.
Mia Grant flinched, turning to her roommate with a questioning look.
Her roommate was frantically motioning with her eyes, urging her to look ahead.
Mia Grant’s heart tightened.
’The professor’s here?!’
’Did he catch me zoning out?’
’Wait, that’s not right. This isn’t high school. I’m in college now, what is there to be afraid of?’
’Besides, class hasn’t even started yet.’
Her tense nerves relaxed slightly. Mia Grant let out a breath and, just as her roommate looked about to have a seizure from blinking so hard, she unhurriedly turned around.
Across the aisle was a floor-to-ceiling window. The weather was nice today, and sunlight filtered through the leafy treetops, landing on the young man’s shoulder.
A shadow fell over her, forcing Mia Grant to squint. Her gaze traveled past his shoulder to his impeccably neat collar. Every button on his shirt was done up, right to the very top.
Her gaze moved slightly upward to a sharp, well-defined jawline, and then higher—
His slightly pursed lips parted, and an unhurried voice asked, "Is anyone sitting here?"
’That voice is so familiar!’
Mia Grant’s eyes twitched. Her gaze shot upward, meeting the calm, placid dark eyes of Felix Sinclair.
In that instant, she felt several intense gazes from all around scrambling to fall upon her.
The stares felt like they wanted to skewer her.
She seemed frozen to the spot, her expression dazed. Felix Sinclair waited a moment, then picked up the pen she had dropped and returned it to her, repeating in a low voice, "Is anyone sitting here?"
He didn’t even call her ’classmate,’ his tone as indifferent as if he were speaking to a complete stranger.
But from this close, Mia Grant could see it clearly. His jet-black pupils locked onto hers, and in their shared gaze, she could see a faint, sorrowful resentment seeping out, as if conveying a thousand unspoken words...
’I didn’t even have to guess. He was definitely blaming me for disappearing for two days and then not contacting him after I got back.’
’Like a total jerk.’
Her roommate poked her from behind. "Kitty, stop gawking! He’s talking to you!"
Mia Grant snapped back to her senses. "Oh, no one’s sitting there."
Felix Sinclair gave a slight nod, put his things down, and sat in the empty seat beside her on the aisle, effectively blocking her only escape route.
Mia Grant snuck a glance around. Everyone, including her roommates, had faces full of gossip.
Tsk. Mia Grant irritably flipped through the pages of her book. ’What is Felix Sinclair up to...’
’I really don’t want this many people paying attention to me.’
’Aren’t there empty seats near Serena Grant? What’s he doing over here...?’
The sound of her flipping pages stopped.
It was for no other reason than the gaze from the front of the room, which was impossible to ignore.
Serena Grant had assumed Felix Sinclair was there for her and was mentally rehearsing how she would turn him down.
But instead, Felix Sinclair had completely ignored her upon entering, walking right past her and heading straight for the back of the classroom.
The moment she turned and saw Mia Grant, she shot to her feet, the movement so abrupt she nearly knocked over the cup on her desk.
Ever since returning after jumping into the ocean, ever since realizing she no longer had to follow the original plot, Mia Grant had wanted nothing more to do with Serena Grant.
Every time she saw Serena Grant, she couldn’t help but recall those wretched moments from her past.
Those fragmented memories pieced together a broken version of herself.
In the basement, she had been locked away for three days.
She hadn’t eaten in a full day. The bed was still damp. Hungry and cold, she huddled in a corner, hugging herself for warmth.
The maid hadn’t brought food yesterday. She waited for a long time today, and she guessed the sun must have already set outside, but still, the maid didn’t come.
With no clock and no sunlight in the basement, she couldn’t tell day from night. She could only make a rough estimate based on the time she was first locked in.
The walls were covered in lines she had scratched to mark the passing of time.
Finally, she heard footsteps outside.
The small glass pane on the door was slid open from the outside.
She scrambled up from the floor.
At eye level, she didn’t see the maid.
It was Serena Grant.
Serena frowned, taking a large step back in disgust as Mia approached. "You stink. Stay away from me!"
"Where’s my food?"
The once delicate and pretentious little princess no longer cared about her image. She was like a beggar on the street, caring only about whether she could fill her stomach today.
Despite this, Serena Grant’s expression showed not a shred of pity. "You did something wrong and you still expect to eat?"
"How many times do I have to say it? I didn’t break your things... Fine, forget it. I’m sorry, I was wrong. Sister, can you let me out now?"
Arguing about right and wrong was less important than what she had to do now: survive!
Serena Grant’s cold sneer came from outside the door. "I don’t think you realize you were wrong. You’re just scared."
"Still, it only took you three days to apologize. It seems we’ll have to keep you locked up for a few more. Mom was right, this is the perfect way to break that temper of yours."
"Here you go." With that, Serena Grant tossed a few cold cream buns through the palm-sized window.
It was like feeding a caged dog, the food tossed at its feet. One of the buns even struck it on the head.
