Remarriage Failed Again Today-Chapter 121: Do Not Take Ill-gotten Gains
Annabelle accepted the glass of red wine from her bodyguard and took an elegant sip. "So, can you read what’s on this? If not, I can translate it for you."
Landon Sheffield stared at Annabelle in terror. Though he tried to feign composure, he was anything but calm. "What do you mean by this?"
Annabelle smiled gracefully, slowly swirling the red wine in her glass. "If I were to hand this document over to the prosecutor’s office, how many years do you think President Sheffield would spend in prison?"
Landon Sheffield’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed hard. "Don’t think this little trick will get you that two billion. I may have taken bribes, but your father’s hands aren’t clean either! We’re in the same boat. If I go down, he’s finished too!"
"Do you want to watch your own father go to prison? Once he’s gone, so is your backing. Do you think the Grant Family will still respect you then? Besides, the bribes I took will get me a sentence of two or three years at most. You think I’m afraid of that?"
"Are you playing dumb, or are you insulting my intelligence?"
Annabelle took another slow, elegant sip of wine, exuding an innate, unruffled calm. "I never had any affection for my father. The Linton Family has already collapsed, my backing is long gone. What use is he to me?"
With that, Annabelle curved her lips into a cryptic smile. "A two or three-year sentence... are you truly not afraid, President Sheffield? The moment you go to prison, the Sheffield Family will immediately collapse. And I hear Mrs. Sheffield is quite the formidable woman. I’m afraid your lifelong dream of having a son is doomed to be shattered, isn’t it?"
As Annabelle spoke, she cast a meaningful glance at the woman who was watching them nervously, unable to understand a single word.
Landon Sheffield instantly understood what Annabelle was implying.
’Once I go to prison, my reputation will be ruined for sure,’ he thought. ’And if that she-tiger at home finds out I’m keeping a mistress, forget about a son—I’m not even sure this woman here will survive!’
Seeing the terrified look on Landon’s face, the woman seemed to realize something was wrong and began to shout frantically.
The bodyguard held her down, his expression blank. Other than her repeated cries of "Yamete!", he couldn’t understand a single word she said.
Landon Sheffield’s face was ashen. His hand trembled as he raised a gun and pointed it at Annabelle. "I won’t let this document get out... I won’t..."
SMASH—
Her patience spent, the wine glass lay shattered to pieces. Annabelle rose to her feet and said sharply, "You can’t possibly be naive enough to think this is the only copy, can you? You are the first person in the world to dare point a gun at me, President Sheffield. I’ll give you three seconds. Put the gun down!"
Upon hearing this, Landon Sheffield’s hand went limp, and the gun fell to the floor.
’This was his life’s work,’ he despaired. ’I was so careful... How could someone have uncovered it?’
Landon Sheffield would never figure it out, not in a million years. The woman he was facing now was an Annabelle who had already experienced his bankruptcy once before.
Annabelle’s brow furrowed. She casually toyed with a knife that glinted with a cold light as she delivered a clear warning: "Don’t feel too bitter about me taking these two billion. Don’t forget, this money isn’t yours. It belongs to the Linton Family."
"To put it more nicely, it belonged to your good buddy. It was *his* money, not yours. It doesn’t have a single thing to do with you, hm? You shouldn’t take ill-gotten gains; hold on to them for too long, and something bad is bound to happen. President Sheffield is a smart man. He knows what to do, right?"
Landon Sheffield stared at Annabelle in a daze.
Annabelle’s words had hit home.
