Remarriage Failed Again Today-Chapter 122: This Woman Brought Him More and More Surprises
He was only helping William Chapman to repay an old favor. The money truly had nothing to do with him.
If the price for repaying that favor was the ruin of his family and reputation, then that would be a terrible injustice.
Annabelle Linton watched Landon Sheffield with a cool gaze, her tone persuasive. "President Sheffield, think twice. You’re just returning a hot potato in exchange for the peace you once had. We can go our separate ways, and this is a deal with no downsides for you. Are you sure you won’t take it?"
Landon Sheffield instantly weighed the pros and cons, his business acumen showing. "Your objective is the two billion?" 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
"I have no interest in other people’s family affairs."
Landon Sheffield nodded. "Fine. I’ll wire the two billion to your account at nine tonight. But can you guarantee that we’ll be even after this?"
Annabelle Linton shot him a cool glance. "Hah. Do you think I have time to waste?"
Landon Sheffield nodded again and asked cautiously, "All right, then it’s settled. I have other matters to attend to, so I’ll be leaving now. I’m taking Yasmin with me. Don’t let my wife find out about this matter. Is that understood?"
Annabelle Linton, still on the sofa, slowly closed her eyes, not deigning to look at them.
Her posture made it clear: all she wanted was the two billion.
Landon Sheffield left with the woman, not wasting a single second.
Annabelle Linton wearily waved her hand, signaling for the bodyguards to withdraw.
She leaned back against the sofa, a languid exhaustion settling over her. She pinched the bridge of her nose and sat there in silence.
Watching Annabelle, Leona Grant suddenly felt an indescribable pang of heartache.
She had never seen this side of Annabelle—so cold she was captivating.
’She’s clever, resourceful, and strategic. So calm and composed she seems graceful under pressure. Why had I never noticed these stunning qualities in her before?’
’This woman is full of more and more surprises.’
’Before, I used to find her so annoying. But now... now I want to find out what she’s really like.’
’But whether it was the her from before or the her from now, it seems like she’s never once been happy.’
’And yet, she’s never complained.’
’A woman like that...’
Leona admired her.
And her heart ached for her.
A sharp pang shot through her heart, and the look in Leona Grant’s eyes deepened.
After what felt like an eternity, the piercing ring of a phone shattered the dead silence.
Annabelle Linton glanced at the caller ID. A flicker of clear, mocking disdain crossed her face as she answered the call.
"Annabelle." William Chapman’s voice came through the phone, a strange mix of gentle reproach and fatherly affection. "What have you been up to? You haven’t called your dad in so long. Are you still upset about what happened last time?"
Though they were phrased as words of concern, all Annabelle heard was sarcasm.
’If not for everything that happened in my past life, I might have actually believed my father was concerned for me.’
Annabelle’s lips twisted into a slight smile. "No. I was about to go to bed. Why are you calling so late? Is something wrong?"
William Chapman chuckled softly. "Oh, it’s nothing major. It’s just that Ryan’s birthday is the day after tomorrow. The boy is so stubborn—he hasn’t been home in over a month, and he won’t answer my calls. But a father and son shouldn’t hold grudges. I know I’ve been busy these past few years and haven’t paid enough attention to him. I want to use this chance to make up for it. Do you have any idea what he might like for a gift?"
Annabelle’s crimson lips parted as if to speak, but in the end, no words came out.
Only a faint, careless smirk played on her lips.
Neither of them spoke, and the atmosphere grew strangely tense.
After a long moment, William Chapman’s voice returned, laced with a hint of awkwardness and confusion. "Annabelle? Are you still there?"
