Remarriage Failed Again Today-Chapter 28: Isn’t She Always Very Vain?
Annabelle’s eyes narrowed, a flicker of ridicule in their depths.
"Fine." Annabelle Linton gave up struggling and nodded slightly. "Aren’t you here to pick me up? Let me go, and we can leave."
A trace of disdain flashed in Leona Grant’s eyes.
’She agreed that quickly?’
’He knew it. She was just being petty about what happened the other day.’
Leona Grant let her go. Annabelle Linton slipped out of his embrace, took off her lab coat, and hung it on a rack.
She grabbed her bag and gave Leona Grant a perfunctory smile. "Let’s go."
It was a faint smile, not an obvious one—just a slight curve at the corners of her mouth that added a touch of charm and softness to her delicate features.
Leona Grant paused for a moment, then gave a faint nod.
On the way out, many people greeted Annabelle Linton, and she returned each greeting with grace.
Ambiguous gazes followed them, a mixture of jealousy and envy. Annabelle Linton calmly ignored them all.
Leona Grant was somewhat surprised to see this.
’Isn’t she usually so vain?’
’Is her acting just that good?’
Downstairs, Chase was standing by the car, waiting for them.
Seeing Annabelle Linton and Leona Grant approach, he immediately opened the car door.
The car moved smoothly down the road.
Leona Grant tentatively took out a carton of milk and handed it to her, asking gently, "Are you hungry? Have some milk to tide you over. We’ll be home soon."
Annabelle Linton took it indifferently and set it aside.
He asked with a smile, "How are you feeling today?"
Annabelle Linton couldn’t stand his feigned affection and said sarcastically, "They were just sleeping pills. As long as they don’t kill you, it’s no big deal."
Her words were laced with sarcasm, but Leona Grant acted as if he hadn’t noticed, continuing his concerned questioning. "What about work today? Are you tired?" 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
"I am, so stop talking to me," Annabelle Linton said impatiently.
Undeterred, Leona Grant kept feigning concern, asking about this and that. Annabelle Linton would sometimes respond with an impatient grunt, and other times, with silence.
For the next ten minutes or so, Leona Grant was the only one trying to make conversation. For everything he said, Annabelle Linton gave him the cold shoulder.
When he finally ran out of things to say, the atmosphere grew awkward.
The two had nothing in common to talk about and were each lost in their own thoughts. They fell into a mutual silence, and the car became unnaturally quiet.
"RING—"
A ringing phone shattered the deathly silence.
Annabelle Linton took out her phone. It was Ryan.
Her voice was soft as she asked, "What’s up?"
Leona Grant opened his eyes and looked at Annabelle Linton.
’That tone of voice,’ he thought, ’is a world away from how she talks to me.’
Ryan Linton, lounging on a sofa, opened his laptop and said lazily, "I just hacked into our scum dad’s computer. Guess what date he set for the acquisition?"
’What day?’
Annabelle Linton searched her memory. In her past life, she clearly remembered that William Chapman had set the acquisition for Ryan’s birthday.
On the surface, it was to celebrate Ryan’s birthday, but in reality, it was a convenient time to announce the news to everyone.
Then, he could justifiably pocket the massive sum from the sale.
Annabelle Linton’s lips curled in a sneer. "Next month?"
"Heh." Ryan Linton scoffed. "You got it, next month. And he even scheduled it for this handsome guy’s birthday. What do you think he’s up to?"
Annabelle Linton gave a disdainful smile, leaning her head against the seat to watch the scenery blur past.
She remembered how, in her past life, everyone had been stunned when William Chapman announced the acquisition in front of all the guests at Ryan’s birthday party.
