Chapter 31: Chapter 31: There Is Nothing More Important Than Living for Oneself

As his passion grew, Leona Grant released his grip on her, using both hands to remove her clothes.

Annabelle Linton’s body trembled as a strange, stimulating sensation rushed through her veins to her head.

The sensation was overwhelming. She raised her hand and slapped Leona Grant across the face.

SLAP—

All passion was instantly extinguished. Aside from the three clear finger marks on his handsome face, Leona Grant’s expression was utterly frigid.

Annabelle Linton ignored his dark expression. "Will you ever stop? We’re about to get a divorce. Have some self-respect, will you?"

Annabelle Linton got down from the table, straightened her clothes, and sneered. "You’ve been testing me all day. Haven’t you figured it out yet? I’m not the same Annabelle Linton I used to be. I haven’t had any feelings for you for a long time! If you want to sleep with women, there’s a whole line of them who will sleep with you until you’re impotent. Just stop touching me. You make me sick!"

Annabelle Linton walked past him expressionlessly, completely ignoring the frigid aura radiating from him.

’She used to love him more than life itself, her entire world revolving around him. In doing so, she lost her dignity and repulsed everyone else.’

’She would never be like that again. Not now, not ever.’

The moment she brushed past him, a powerful force yanked her wrist, pulling her back.

Leona Grant’s eyes were dark as he stared at her, his deep voice laced with a chilling tone. "Annabelle Linton, tell me what kind of game you’re playing. You used to be completely devoted to me. Why this attitude now? This isn’t how you should be reacting. What are you trying to pull?"

The corner of Annabelle Linton’s mouth twitched.

’Yes, he was right.’

’If she hadn’t been reborn, she never would have believed she could one day treat him with such an attitude.’

’But she *had* been reborn.’

’She had sacrificed her life for her pathetic love, a price she paid for the chance to grow.’

’All he had ever brought her was pain.’

’So in this life, she would never give him another chance to hurt her.’

"You said it yourself—that was the past." Annabelle Linton’s unfaltering gaze swept over him, her eyes clear and showing no sign of concealment. "I admit it, I used to love you to a hopeless degree. But that’s all in the past. Women are emotional creatures. They can fall madly in love with you in an instant, and their feelings can turn to ash just as quickly. That includes me."

Annabelle Linton stared at him without blinking. Her beautiful eyes were calm and composed, holding nothing that would invite doubt or suggest guilt.

"I was willing to give you my everything, and I can just as easily walk away with nothing. Leona Grant, that day in the hospital, I really did take sleeping pills to kill myself. But the moment I woke up and saw your eyes, the love I had for you turned into complete despair. In that exact instant, I stopped loving you. I should thank you, really. You’re the one who made me understand that nothing is more important than living for myself."

Annabelle Linton’s lips curved into a faint, bittersweet smile of release. "I don’t love you anymore. And I never will again. It’s as simple as that."

The air grew thick with tension.

Leona Grant’s jet-black eyes stared straight at her, as if trying to bore a hole right through her.

Not to be outdone, Annabelle Linton stubbornly met his gaze.

Her gaze was candid, calm, and composed, without a trace of falsehood.

He had been navigating the business world for many years and had met countless people. He could read a person’s character, intentions, and thoughts with a single glance.

And there was no denying it: Annabelle Linton was not lying.

She really didn’t love him anymore.
