Remarriage Failed Again Today-Chapter 45: She Was Secretly Helping Her
Mrs. Grant had gone to great lengths to get Ashley to come back from abroad this time. She had always felt a bit guilty about this daughter. Being so busy with work when Ashley was young, she hadn’t been able to care for her properly, and now she was completely at a loss for words.
Vivian Yates fought back her indignation, picked up her bag, and headed for the door. "I’m sorry, everyone. I should be going."
The situation today was not in her favor. If she stayed any longer, there was no telling what other chaos might erupt.
She could clearly feel the Grant Family’s hostility toward her.
Seeing this, a calculating glint flashed in Annabelle Linton’s eyes.
’Thinking of leaving already?’
Vivian Yates had only taken two steps when Annabelle Linton grabbed her by the wrist. "What happened today was Ashley’s fault. As her sister-in-law, I’ll apologize to you on her behalf. I’m sorry. I hope you won’t hold it against her."
Everyone else was stunned, even Leona Grant.
He couldn’t understand it. Annabelle despised Vivian Yates, and this incident had nothing to do with her, yet she was still apologizing.
’If she was just trying to play the good guy in front of everyone, there seemed to be no reason for it.’
’She herself had said that once they divorced in two days, his family would no longer be her concern. She had no need to be the bigger person.’
’But here she was, smiling as she took all the blame and apologized to the person she hated most.’
She chose to see the bigger picture, saving face for everyone and defusing the awkward situation.
Her grace and the way she handled the situation made everyone see her in a new light.
Sure enough, Mr. and Mrs. Grant, as well as Patrick Grant, all looked at her with pleased expressions.
Leona Grant watched her with his deep eyes, not saying a word.
Ashley Grant glanced at Annabelle Linton, a flicker of relief in her eyes.
She put on a dissatisfied expression and whined, "Sister-in-law, what are you doing? We didn’t do anything wrong!"
Anyone who didn’t know Ashley Grant would have thought she was just being bratty, but only Annabelle knew she was secretly helping her.
’Because this wasn’t Ashley’s real personality at all.’
Annabelle Linton looked at her seriously, her expression like an adult gently chiding a child. "Ashley, someone prepared a gift for you. Whether you like it or not, it’s the thought that counts. Just like your brother said, you can’t just throw someone’s kindness back in their face. So, go and apologize to Miss Yates."
Ashley Grant doubled down on her act, her expression full of indignation. "Sister-in-law, I’m not going to apologize to her! I hate her! She’s always clinging to my brother and bullying you. I just can’t stand her. I’m not apologizing."
"Let’s not mix issues," Annabelle Linton said patiently. "We’re talking about what just happened. Miss Yates and your brother are just good friends, so it’s natural for them to be close. I trust him. As for today, you were in the wrong, so go and apologize."
When Leona Grant heard Annabelle’s words, a strange feeling suddenly stirred within him.
’Especially when he heard her say, "I trust him." It felt like something had struck his heart, even though he knew she didn’t mean it.’
Annabelle scoffed inwardly. ’Just good friends?’
’She didn’t even believe that herself.’
’An excuse that high-and-mighty was probably only good for fooling other people.’
Ashley Grant glared at Vivian Yates and spat out, "Sorry!"
Although she had apologized, anyone with eyes could see how she really felt. If it weren’t for Annabelle, she would never have backed down to this woman!
Annabelle turned back to Vivian Yates and said with a sincere expression, "Miss Yates, see? Ashley has apologized. Please don’t be mad at her. She’s still just a kid, so please don’t hold it against her."
