Remarriage Failed Again Today-Chapter 98: If You’re Not Compatible, Then Get a Divorce. Grandpa Will Respect Your Choice This Time.
"But she was always so weak in front of me."
Patrick Grant smiled faintly again. "Yes, she was indeed weak in front of you. But, Leona, have you ever thought about why?"
Leona Grant looked at Patrick Grant blankly.
"The one who loves more is always the humblest. In the past, whenever she was wronged, she would choose to quietly smooth things over, always trying to minimize the trouble. From a normal person’s perspective, I have to admit, she was very foolish.
But why was she foolish? Wasn’t it all because of her feelings for you? Because she cared, she was always thinking about your feelings, always trying to see things from your perspective. I know Annabelle had some conflicts with Miss Yates in the past, but if you think about it carefully, wasn’t Annabelle always the one who was wronged in those situations?
Anyone who wasn’t a fool would have complained, would have explained themselves, but she never uttered a single complaint. And why was that? It was because she knew about your feelings for Miss Yates. She didn’t want to put you in a difficult position, so she chose to shoulder all the blame.
But, with her intelligence and wit, is she really a fool?
No, she’s not a fool. She never was. She just loved you too deeply, so she chose to be tolerant and patient.
Leona, you used to always ask me why I insisted on Annabelle being the Young Madam of the Grant Family. This is the reason. It’s because of her grace and her completely unreserved love for you."
Leona Grant lowered his gaze. Thinking of Annabelle Linton’s loss of control during the day, he could clearly feel that her unreserved love had been replaced by hatred and indifference.
"Grandfather, what did you call me here to say?"
A sad expression appeared on Patrick Grant’s face. "Leona, I called you here today to tell you I’m sorry."
Leona Grant looked up, stunned, not understanding why his grandfather would say such a thing.
Patrick Grant sighed and said sadly, "Ever since you were little, you have always been the grandson I’m most proud of, and the undisputed heir to the Grant Family. In my effort to raise a perfect successor, I’ve always ignored your own feelings over the years. Even your marriage was something I forced on you.
Annabelle is a very easy person to get along with. I know you don’t actually hate her. The reason you act like you despise her is simply because you don’t like being controlled and resent the arrangements I made for you.
I used to always think about giving you the best and most suitable things, but when I saw that you two weren’t getting along, when I saw Annabelle being wronged—especially the other day when she knelt down to beg me, her face full of accusation as she demanded a divorce—that was when I knew I had truly made a mistake.
Leona, I am sorry. Please accept my apology. Maybe it’s a good thing that you can’t go on like this anymore. If you’re not compatible, then get a divorce. This time, I will respect your choice. Consider it as me looking out for Annabelle’s well-being, too."
Leona Grant was stunned once again—
Patrick Grant smiled faintly. "Good child, I won’t be able to accompany you much further in life. The days ahead are yours to live. Choose someone you actually like. I won’t interfere in your marriage again."
Leona Grant looked at his grandfather and noticed that his hair had turned much whiter, and many more wrinkles had appeared on his face. Even the frame that had so often carried him on its back when he was a child was now much more stooped.
A bitter feeling suddenly welled up inside him. He realized that in his twenty-some years of life, he had wronged so many people: his grandfather, his parents, and Annabelle Linton...
Leona Grant returned to his room in the old family residence. That night, he fell asleep with a heavy heart.
