Remarried Wife: Mr. Ex, We Will Never Reconcile!-Chapter 120: A Public Falling-Out!
Ian Kane deliberately emphasized the words "Mrs. Kane," like a steel needle viciously piercing into Vera Sheridan’s nerves.
He was reminding her that with the appeal successful, the divorce proceedings were halted, and she was still legally "Mrs. Kane"!
Vera made a half-turn, deftly breaking free from his iron grip, her face icy cold, her voice filled with chilling anger: "Stay away from me!"
Ian Kane acted as if he didn’t hear, stepping closer, his tall frame casting a shadow that completely enveloped her.
Vera’s back slammed against the cold, hard marble wall, her chest felt suffocated by his scorching breath, leaving her unable to move.
The crisp scent of cedar carried an undeniable dominion, pressing down heavily, trapping her in place.
Vera’s pupils contracted suddenly, her whole body tensed, she quickly turned her head to avoid, "Ian Kane, let go—"
Before she finished, his long and powerful hand, with distinct joints, inexorably held the side of her head steady.
The slightly cool touch of his fingertips through her thin hair made her shudder all over.
Ian Kane lowered his gaze, his eyes calmly resting on the top of her head, attentively pinching the cherry blossom petal caught there, his movements gentle as if brushing off dust that shouldn’t be on a treasure.
His long fingers twirled the delicate petal, a faint smile on his lips, "Still trying to get rid of me?"
"Legally, I can keep appealing and remain your husband indefinitely." He chuckled softly, exerting a bit of force with his fingertips, reducing the petal to a fine powder, "The right to appeal is in my hands, and this divorce case, I can drag it out as long as I want, Vera."
His gaze locked on hers, "Even if your heart holds someone else, wherever you go, ’Mrs. Kane’ will always hang over your head."
"As for Noah Grant?" His lips curled into a cold smile, "He should give up that thought early."
Vera glared at him, scoffing coldly in her heart:
We’ll see about that!
After the efforts of the past while, the legal team had secured 80% of the evidence, and her second lawyer’s letter would reach him by next Monday!
Ian Kane met her sharp, knife-like gaze, his lips curling wickedly, his tone teasingly intimate like a couple’s banter: "Do you hate me that much, Mrs. Kane?"
Vera didn’t give him another look, nor did she bother arguing, about to push him away with all her might when she caught a few glances from the corner of her eye.
Not far away, Martin Thorne and several business moguls were smiling at them respectfully, raising their glasses from afar.
Those eyes clearly admired the private interaction of an "affectionate" couple.
Among these people, only Martin Thorne knew they were getting divorced.
Ian Kane was invited by Martin Thorne tonight.
Owen Sheridan had previously warned her that today was unavoidable.
"Sis!"
At this moment, Owen Sheridan’s clear yet chilling voice suddenly cut through the stagnant air!
In a sharp black suit, stepping briskly, he instantly wedged himself between the two, his tall figure forming a solid barrier, discreetly shielding Vera behind him.
The young handsome face showed no emotion, his cold gaze piercing Ian Kane: "Sis, Carla needs your help changing into her ceremonial dress."
Ian Kane raised an eyebrow, his deep gaze landing on Owen’s face, lips curling with amusement.
But eventually, he casually stepped back, releasing Vera.
Vera’s tense nerves finally relaxed.
Owen shot Ian Kane a warning look: Stay away from her.
The siblings walked away, weaving through the crowd in the hall.
On the way, Vera ran into Jean Crowe surrounded by a group of dazzlingly dressed matrons.
The ignorant matrons assumed this "Mrs. Kane" was representing her in-laws at the event, chatting warmly.
Jean Crowe’s gaze swept over Vera, her fingers tightening around the jade Buddha Beads on her wrist, yet her face displayed an unassailable maternal affection.
"Mrs. Kane, isn’t that your daughter-in-law?" Aunt Coleman, Noah Grant’s relative, asked with a smile, following her gaze.
Jean Crowe’s smile deepened, her tone full of sympathy, "Yes, Mrs. Coleman. The child is unfortunate, being the eldest sister acting as a mother, she’s worn out by the arrangements for her brother’s engagement banquet today."
Every word solidified Vera’s identity as "Mrs. Kane."
Aunt Coleman’s heart sank.
Her cousin Rosalind Morgan’s worries were still fresh in her mind, but faced with this "harmonious in-law" scene...
She instantly felt it was unfair to Noah Grant, deepening her dislike for Vera: bearing the title of Mrs. Kane and flirting with Noah, she had no shame!
On the surface, she only said lightly, "Mrs. Kane is truly fortunate."
...
At the appointed time, melodious music flowed, and the engagement ceremony was solemnly conducted.
Vera couldn’t avoid it any longer, being arranged by the Thorne couple to sit beside Ian Kane.
When the ceremony ended, the applause gradually subsided.
The host announced loudly, with a deliberately flattering tone: "Next, let’s welcome Mr. Ian Kane, brother-in-law of Owen Sheridan, to present a gift to the newlyweds!"
The words "brother-in-law" stabbed at Vera’s nerves!
Ian Kane stood up with a smile, his demeanor calm and graceful.
With a single look, a bodyguard immediately stepped forward, respectfully handing a refined black crocodile leather gift box to the host.
The box lid clicked open, and several beams of strong light instantly focused—
On the deep blue velvet lining lay a car key.
The world-renowned Spirit of Ecstasy and double R emblem reflected cold, expensive, dazzling glints under the spotlight!
The host was so excited his voice cracked: "Rolls-Royce Wraith! President Kane, as the brother-in-law, is gifting a Rolls-Royce Wraith worth over a hundred million!"
The entire room was in an uproar! Gasps and exclamations followed one after another.
It was well known that Ian Kane cherished his wife above all, and today, seeing is believing!
To gift a car worth hundreds of millions as a congratulatory gift to his brother-in-law!
Owen Sheridan and Carla Thorne’s faces instantly darkened.
The Thorne couple, however, were over the moon, as if this "generous gift" was their greatest honor.
Below the stage, Vera’s nails dug deeply into her palm.
How is this a gift?
Ian Kane did it on purpose!
In front of a room full of guests, he was forcing the identity of "Mrs. Kane" onto her!
At this moment, Ian Kane’s distinctively jointed hand, with its scorching warmth and inescapable force, affectionately draped over her shoulder, pulling her tightly to him.
Vera’s gaze was fixated on that hand on her shoulder.
He thought that at Owen’s engagement party, as his sister, she wouldn’t dare resist and let him bind her!
Vera took a deep breath, her chest heaving violently as she looked toward Owen, who was equally tense on the platform.
The twin bond between brother and sister was strong; Owen was also looking at her, his eyes firm, giving her a subtle, confident nod.
With the silent yet strong support from her brother, Vera hesitated no more!
She abruptly raised her hand, using all her strength to shake him off.
"Slap!"
A clear and crisp smack resounded sharply, shockingly loud in the hall that had fallen silent from surprise!
Ian Kane’s hand was suddenly flung away, suspended in mid-air, his composed smile instantly froze, the deep black within his eyes swirling with turbulence.
"Thank you, Mr. Kane, for your generous gift!" Vera raised her voice.
"But our marriage is already broken, our ties severed, and we are in the process of a divorce lawsuit; this car, The Sheridan Family will not accept!"
Her words were forceful and every phrase echoed throughout the banquet hall.
