Remarried Wife: Mr. Ex, We Will Never Reconcile!-Chapter 134: Judgment: He Destroyed Her with His Own Hands!
A few steps away, the man’s tall and straight stature was highlighted by the courtroom’s overhead lights, making his cold and handsome face appear even more profound and three-dimensional. He was noticeably thinner.
His stance remained aloof and arrogant, with a gaze full of disdain, as if she were an insignificant ant.
Something stabbed at Nina’s heart, and she clenched her hands tightly.
Out of the corner of his eye, Ian Kane caught sight of Elias Crowe, issuing a silent command with his eyes: Make her disappear!
At the back of the courtroom, Elias Crowe shrugged helplessly.
He didn’t understand why this Nina Sullivan, who had been living as a chaste and virtuous woman in her hometown, suddenly came to Ardendale to testify.
Watching this once masterful top hunter being surrounded and counterattacked by two prey he had personally trained... Elias felt a sense of absurdity in his heart.
Ian Kane’s jaw was clenched tight as iron, his gaze turned towards Vera Sheridan on the plaintiff’s stand.
He saw her slightly tilt her head, whispering to Lawyer Hale beside her.
Her expression was calm like still water, her slender fingers lightly tapping the document in front of her, maintaining that detached composure.
At this moment, Lawyer Hale stood up.
"Your Honor! Members of the jury! This Ms. Nina Sullivan is a critical witness summoned by our side! She has submitted to us a significant amount of evidence—including, but not limited to, photos, videos, and communication records—demonstrating her intimate relationship with the defendant, Mr. Ian Kane, during his marriage, which lasted for several months!"
"These undeniable proofs attest that Mr. Ian Kane has repeatedly, deliberately betrayed his marriage, committing severe acts of infidelity against my client, Ms. Vera Sheridan!"
Her words resonated like a sudden clap of thunder.
For a moment, the courtroom fell silent, and the next instant, it erupted.
Maeve Holloway even clapped excitedly, which was truly ironic because at that moment, she found the universally scorned "mistress" slightly more agreeable.
Owen Sheridan’s gaze was fixated on Vera, watching her sit with unprecedented calmness and aloofness, as if the allegations of infidelity had nothing to do with her.
The tension in his heart eased, and he couldn’t help but smile in relief.
Lawyer Hale continued speaking:
"The opposing counsel attempted to trivialize Mr. Ian Kane’s actions as nothing more than a single instance of drunken loss of control, absurdly blaming my client, Ms. Vera Sheridan, for supposed frigidity."
"I must solemnly clarify the facts: Ms. Vera Sheridan bears significant psychological stress responses to intimate relationships due to childhood trauma from witnessing infidelity."
"Her resistance to intimacy stems from profound pain, not indifference!"
"For the sake of preserving this marriage she once greatly cherished, she has silently endured enormous psychological pressure after marriage, persistently undergoing professional psychological therapy, even enduring extremely painful shock therapy."
"Everything she did was to overcome her inner fear and strive to be a competent wife!"
Finishing the sentence, she resolutely pointed to the large electronic screen at the center of the courtroom. "Please allow me to present to the court the real state of my client, Ms. Vera Sheridan, during shock therapy!"
The screen instantly lit up, displaying surveillance footage.
In a cold and simple room, there was only a chair and a corner.
Vera was curled up on the floor in that corner, tightly embracing herself, her body trembling violently, like a small bird battered by a storm with nowhere to escape.
She was forced to stare at the screen showing images that filled her with extreme fear and disgust, her breathing rapid and erratic, shoulders shaking violently.
The pain and despair were almost overflowing from the screen.
Suddenly, she clutched her mouth, her body convulsing uncontrollably, followed by a heart-wrenching dry heave, and finally, she vomited from the pain...
Witnessing this scene, Maeve Holloway was weeping uncontrollably, Owen Sheridan’s eyes turned red, and many jurors and spectators couldn’t help but turn away or cover their mouths, their eyes filled with shock and sympathy.
On the defendant’s stand—
Ian Kane’s pupils shrank, staring intensely at the fragile, utterly tormented figure on the screen, truly "seeing" her struggle for the first time.
His breath halted, body stiff as iron.
The fingers gripping the armrest began to tremble slightly from exerting too much force. His Adam’s apple bobbed vigorously, trying to swallow the hard, dull pain in his throat.
"To overcome her inner fear and strive to be a ’competent’ wife..."
Lawyer Hale’s earlier words echoed incessantly in his mind, overlapping with the painful figure on the screen.
He slowly turned his head to look at Vera.
She sat there quietly, expressionless.
Completely different from the pained, collapsed person on the screen.
Ian Kane’s chest heaved violently.
He stared hard at her unperturbed face, a violent rage surging to the top of his head.
He’d rather see her hatred! Even a heart-stirring accusation!
But this indifferent calmness silently declared to him: she wouldn’t even grant him the contempt of hatred.
Nina Sullivan’s gaze fell on Ian Kane’s tense profile, the corner of her mouth curling into a mocking smile, "Mr. Kane, are you now genuinely feeling pain, or... just putting on an act of remorse again?"
Her eyes swept across the room, finally settling on the electronic screen. "While Ms. Sheridan was in such agony—were you not intimately entangled with me in the rehearsal room of the dance company?"
She watched with satisfaction as Ian Kane’s face darkened abruptly, continuing fearlessly:
"What did you do when we were almost caught by Ms. Sheridan? You immediately ordered me to cooperate with your lie!"
"You even deliberately left the shirt with my lipstick mark for her to find, and when she questioned you, instead of explaining, you turned the tables, accusing her of being paranoid because of her psychological issues!"
"Again and again... you conditioned her in this cycle. When she questioned, you’d give her the cold shoulder for a few days, then sweeten her up. Over time, even when I told her face-to-face that I was pregnant with your child, she wouldn’t believe it!"
As she mentioned the child, Nina Sullivan instinctively placed a hand on her abdomen, eyes filled with hatred for Ian Kane, the corners of her mouth curling into a bitter smile.
Ian Kane’s face turned ashen, his gaze icy as he locked onto Nina Sullivan, just about to speak to the judge—
"Your Honor! The jury!" Lawyer Hale’s voice, like the chime of justice, rang through the courtroom again!
"This is precisely the crucial point we need to supplement! What Ms. Nina Sullivan has exposed is far from mere infidelity! It is a complete and egregious manipulation tactic employed by Mr. Ian Kane against Ms. Vera Sheridan known as PUA (Pick-Up Artist) methods!"
Her gaze stabbed directly at Ian Kane.
"This is blatant psychological abuse!"
"He never loved the flesh-and-blood, independently-willed Vera! He loved the puppet he created, demanding absolute obedience! When the puppet tried to break free from its chains, he used not communication and respect, but even more brutal psychological torment!"
Lawyer Hale turned to the bench, her voice heavy yet full of strength:
"Mr. Ian Kane’s actions are a desecration of marriage vows, a thorough defilement of the word ’love’!"
"I implore the court! Severely punish the perpetrator! Offer the victim, Ms. Vera Sheridan, a belated and thorough justice!"
