Chapter 72: Clarissa – Eson’s Past

While I was healing Eson’s broken arm and leg, he told me about his past.

Seven years ago, Eson was a warrior of the Black Pack. He had no family left after his grandmother passed away a year earlier.

Eson was an ordinary warrior who earned his position purely through ability. He climbed up from the very bottom, starting in his teens, and became a vice squad leader at the age of twenty-five. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

Back then, he fell in love with his squad leader’s daughter. She was a beautiful omega named Melly, and she returned his feelings.

They wanted to get serious, but Martin, Melly’s father, opposed their relationship. In his eyes, an omega girl should marry an alpha’s heir.

Eson thought their love story would end there. Unexpectedly, Melly came to him and asked to be marked.

Eson refused.

He couldn’t bring himself to give her a mark before they stood before the Moon Goddess and formed a mate bond. Melly was too precious to be treated that way.

That night, Eson escorted Melly back home. When Martin saw him, he beat Eson badly.

But that same night, Melly spoke calmly to her father through tears. She reassured him and eased his worries.

Unexpectedly, the next day, Martin approved their relationship. The two of them married soon after.

They became a harmonious couple, and not long later, Melly became pregnant.

Martin then tried to push Eson’s career forward. He assigned him many missions so Eson could earn merit and become a squad leader quickly.

Eson’s growing busyness unknowingly became the beginning of the real tragedy.

Melly had a big secret. She possessed a special ability. She could read people’s minds when she made eye contact with them.

On the night Eson was beaten by Martin, Melly confessed her ability to her father and told him why she chose Eson.

Eson was an honest man, hardworking, and deeply loved her. Meanwhile, the high-profile males who approached her were twisted inside, nothing like their polished appearances.

That was why Martin finally approved of their relationship.

Melly never intended to reveal her mind-reading ability. But an incident forced her to.

At the time, Eson was away on a mission that lasted several months. Melly accidentally talked to a neighbor’s brother-in-law. Through that conversation, she learned that the man planned to kill the neighbor.

That neighbor had always been kind to Melly and helped her during pregnancy, especially when Eson was often away.

Melly couldn’t let such a good person die. She warned her neighbor. That night, the brother-in-law really came to kill her, but the neighbor had already gathered several relatives.

After that incident, the neighbor suddenly distanced herself from Melly. Slowly, not just one person, but almost everyone in the area began avoiding her.

Melly later found out that the neighbor had spread rumors about her mind-reading ability. The residents feared Melly would read their thoughts and expose their secrets. Secretly, they began calling her The Witch.

Melly tried not to think about it and continued living her life as usual.

Until one night, she went into labor.

Perhaps due to anxiety, she suffered heavy bleeding. Eson wasn’t there. Her screams for help were heard by neighbors next door and across the street, but no one came to help.

Melly gave birth to Ella by herself that night. She didn’t survive.

That tragedy was a devastating blow to both Martin and Eson.

Eson rushed back immediately, abandoned his mission, and destroyed the neighbors’ houses. He almost killed them, but the warriors stopped him.

Meanwhile, Martin poured his anger and grief onto Eson and the newborn child. He blamed them for his daughter’s death.

He branded Eson as a criminal for abandoning his mission and destroying civilian homes, then banished him along with Ella, who was only two weeks old.

That was why Martin was filled with rage when he met Eson again and even tried to kill him with his own hands.

After hearing Eson and Ella’s painful past, I finally realized that there were many reasons someone could become a rogue. Some were good people forced into it, while others were evil by nature.

"Ella will inherit her mother’s power when her inner wolf awakens. I can feel it," Loodie suddenly said.

I thought the mind-reading ability was incredible. I hoped Ella could survive until the day her power awakened.

After healing all of Eson’s wounds, I continued with the plan I made last night.

I was heading to the Brown Pack.

"I’ll be going now," I said to Eson and Ella.

Ella hugged me tightly.

"Rissa, don’t leave me."

I hugged her back, then reluctantly let go.

"If I return to Greck, I’ll look for you," I promised.

Though reluctant, Ella finally nodded.

"I trade with villagers near the forest once a week," Eson said before I left. "If you want to find us, come there."

...

Two days later, I finally arrived at the Brown Pack.

As a rogue, I couldn’t use the main road. I traveled through the forest and entered through areas rarely patrolled.

Luckily, security in the Brown Pack was minimal. I entered through the forest path near the orphanage. But this time, I didn’t stop at the place where I grew up.

I went straight to the alpha’s house, hoping they hadn’t left yet.

Unexpectedly, a familiar figure stood in front of the house.

"Tasha!" I called out without thinking.

Her straight, shoulder-length hair swayed as she quickly turned toward me.

"Clarissa!" she screamed in shock, then reflexively covered her mouth.

She looked left and right, found no one, then rushed over and hugged me.

"You’re alive! Thank the Moon, you didn’t die."

I could hear the relief and happiness in her voice. She was the only person I truly considered a friend.

"I’m alive. I’m sorry for causing trouble for Alpha Ryan and your family," I said with deep regret.

"Don’t think about that. What matters is that you’re safe." She pulled back, looked at my face, then at my hands and legs. When she saw my hand, she sighed. "I heard your arms and legs were cut off. Thank goodness that was just a lie."

I didn’t reply. I couldn’t tell her it wasn’t a lie. It would be too difficult to explain.

"How are Alpha and Lu—"

Before I could finish, a venomous female voice screeched from the alpha’s doorway.

"Clarissa, you bitch! You’re still alive?!"
