Return of The Alpha Heiress-Chapter 71: Clarissa – Mind Shock
Every time one of my limbs grows back, my heat cycle shifts. It’s never the same as it was the month before.
And now, I never expected my heat to come at such a terrible time.
Eson was still staring at me, and I couldn’t say a word.
The problem was that heat released strong pheromones. Other werewolves could easily smell it. If this continued, our hiding place would be exposed in no time.
"An omega is someone sought after by alpha’s heirs. How did you end up being banished and becoming a rogue?" Eson asked.
I didn’t answer.
And he didn’t press further. It seemed he understood that my situation was not something easy to explain.
My gaze moved to Ella. She was looking at me with confusion, not understanding the conversation between me and her father.
I took a deep breath and spoke softly. "I’ll leave."
This time, Ella instinctively grabbed my cloak and shook her head.
I gently loosened her grip, then turned to Eson and nodded.
"The warriors are nothing like the thugs you defeated earlier," Eson said seriously. "They are far stronger. You won’t survive facing them alone."
"There’s no other choice," I replied.
I couldn’t sacrifice others. If the warriors caught me, I only needed to endure the beating.
Once I was thrown back into the forest, my healing ability would take care of the rest.
I took a step forward.
But after only a few steps, Eson suddenly grabbed my wrist.
I turned back, confused.
"If you really are Alpha Green’s adopted daughter, then once the warriors catch you, the Alpha will try to kill you," Eson said grimly. "He needs proof of your death to claim the wealth Larry Green gave you."
Thump. Only then did I realize it.
I looked at Eson again. The fact that he could read Alpha Green’s intentions so clearly made me even more certain that the man before me was no ordinary person.
Still, I had no other option. I had to leave.
As I was thinking, Eson suddenly pushed me toward Ella.
"I’ll draw their attention. I won’t die. Protect Ella."
"Dad—" Ella’s voice was cut off. Eson had already shifted and rushed away.
Even though I was still stunned, I immediately pulled Ella into my arms. The little girl clung to me tightly, her body trembling as she held back her tears.
I quickly asked Loodie to track Eson and the warriors.
"Eson managed to lure them away before they caught your pheromones," Loodie said, then continued updating their positions.
At first, Loodie’s tracking range wasn’t very wide. But as I grew stronger, that range expanded. Not only that, Loodie could now identify who was within the range, not just sense their energy.
For a while, Eson stayed out of warriors’ reach. He was incredibly nimble, just like those warriors.
Even so, my chest felt tight with anxiety.
That tension shattered when Loodie spoke again. "Eson has been captured. A warrior took another route and ambushed him."
My heart pounded violently, as if it would burst out of my chest.
"They’re not just capturing him. They’re trying to cripple him. He’s being attacked by several warriors at once," Loodie reported.
My entire body trembled with guilt. My palms were soaked with sweat.
"Eson’s energy is weakening," Loodie added.
My thoughts spiraled into chaos, especially when I looked down at Ella, who was silently crying in my arms.
Eson would probably not survive this. The warriors were surely enraged by how he had provoked them.
Could I live with the guilt of becoming the reason Ella turned into an orphan? 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
I shook my head hard.
Gently, I released Ella and crouched down so I could look her straight in the eyes.
"Ella, I’m going to bring your father back here. Wait for me, okay?"
Ella nodded, her eyes filled with tears.
"Good girl." I patted her head, then sprinted toward their direction.
Loodie didn’t agree with my decision to save Eson, but still guided me to his location.
I arrived quickly.
The warriors were surrounding Eson, who had returned to his real form. He was covered in blood.
Before I could reveal myself, one of the warriors, also in original form, snapped Eson’s arm.
Eson clenched his teeth, forcing back a scream.
"You should have died long ago. How dare you show your face in front of me again," the older-looking warrior said coldly, his voice filled with rage. "I’ll kill you now!"
The other warriors stayed silent, even though they knew it was forbidden to directly kill a rogue captured in the forest.
The older warrior grabbed Eson by the head.
My blood boiled at the sight before me, knowing that I wouldn’t be able to save Eson.
He was in this situation because he wanted to help me.
After a life full of betrayal, I finally met someone willing to sacrifice himself for me, in a place filled with outcasts.
I hadn’t even asked Eson why he helped me.
Was it because he felt indebted after I saved Ella? Or because he pitied me?
I wanted to know. I wanted to hear it from him directly.
The warrior holding Eson’s head smiled coldly, as if he had been waiting for this day to come.
’No. I won’t allow this.’
I felt Loodie grow restless too, as if something inside us was about to explode.
At the same time, a second before the old warrior moved his hand, something inside my mind, something connected to Loodie’s consciousness, suddenly burst.
My head spun violently, and my vision went dark.
Then, in the next moment, my thoughts became strangely clear. The effects of heat disappeared completely, leaving nothing behind.
When I opened my eyes, all the warriors had collapsed to the ground. They groaned, struggling to stand, but their bodies refused to obey them.
I stared in shock, then quickly took the chance to help Eson up.
Eson looked at me in disbelief, then lost consciousness.
"Little girl... who are you?" the old warrior asked weakly. "How did you disable all of us?"
I gave him a sharp look while supporting Eson. I was about to say it wasn’t my doing when Loodie suddenly spoke.
"That was Mind Shock. You were the one who disabled them."
I had once read about Mind Shock.
It was a power possessed only by a true alpha, and it could only be used on werewolves who had sworn loyalty to the alpha at the altar of the Moon Goddess. It was usually used to punish rebellious subordinates.
"It’s not impossible for The Healer to become the true alpha as well," Loodie explained. "As for why you can use Mind Shock on those who haven’t sworn to you... that’s likely because you carry a special fate. Your eyes and your birthmark are signs blessed by the Moon Goddess."
I was stunned by all this new information.
But before I could think about it further, I focused on what was in front of me.
I looked at the old warrior and tried sending a mind link to him. Surprisingly, it worked.
’I’m not someone you can fight,’ I said calmly through mind link. ’I don’t know what history you have with Eson, but he is under my protection now. Don’t you dare target him again.’
I continued walking, supporting Eson.
"What is your name?" the old warrior asked before I could take another step.
Without turning back, I answered, "The Witch. Remember it."
...
I returned to the cave, healed Eson’s deep wounds, then went back to deal with the warriors.
The warriors searching the forest were divided into several groups. Other groups could smell my pheromones and discover our location.
Yes, I was still in heat. The effects were gone, but the pheromones were still leaking from my body.
I didn’t dare use Mind Shock again on a group of warriors. Loodie warned me that it required immense mental energy. If I wasn’t careful, I could collapse.
In the end, I chose to tail the group led by the old warrior, after ordering them to stay away from the other warrior teams.
They realized I was an omega, but no one said a word.
From time to time, I sent mind links to scare them whenever someone showed signs of being affected by my pheromones.
The old warrior was sensible as well. He didn’t try to secretly contact other groups using a com-orb or any other method.
The search ended at sunrise.
That group of warriors returned to their pack, the Black Pack.
I hurried back to the cave. I wasn’t done healing Eson yet.
When I arrived, Eson had already cleaned the blood from his body. He was limping, and one of his arms couldn’t move. It looked broken.
"I’ll fix your arm," I said, giving him a look that told him to rest immediately.
"Eat first." He ignored me and instead handed me a bowl of fish soup. "Last night was long."
Ella tugged on my robe.
"Eat first, Rissa."
With no other choice, I ate with them.
Only after that did I continue healing Eson. He had sent Ella to play by the river so she wouldn’t see his injuries.
Then, suddenly, he said,
"The leader of the warrior group last night... is Ella’s biological grandfather."
