Chapter 269: Chapter 271: Affections, Faded

"What?" Wu Fa and Wang Cai were shocked when the little girl said her dad was Wu Tian. The moment she spoke, the impact of her words was extraordinary.

Both Wu Fa and Wang Cai gasped, utterly stunned. Their gazes were filled with disbelief. Could it really be true?

Especially Wu Fa. His eyes widened as he looked at the little girl again, his expression complex and at a loss for words. He’d unexpectedly become a grandfather?

Seeing the shock on the adults’ faces, the little girl was puzzled. Is Dad’s name really that scary? Just saying it petrified them. Could this be that legendary ’thunderous reputation’? I suddenly feel a pang of envy. Scaring people just by saying your name must be a great achievement. I want to be able to do that one day.

"You... you said your dad’s name is Wu Tian? Is that the ’Wu’ with a ’mouth’ radical on top? And ’Tian’ as in the sky?" Wu Fa’s first thought was that he must have misunderstood. He asked again cautiously, his guarded expression showing just how immense an impact the name ’Wu Tian’ had on him.

"Yep, that’s the one—Wu Tian," the little girl hummed proudly. So they know Dad’s name, which means they know how powerful he is. Just as I thought, their attitude became much more polite once they found out.

"Then is your grandma named... named Murong Yezi?" Wu Fa asked again, his voice laced with nervousness.

The little girl nodded proudly. "Yes, that’s her." Wow, not only is Dad famous, but Grandma is too! I won’t bring shame to our family. One day, I’ll be even more famous! She clenched her tiny fists, filled with ambition.

"This..." Wu Fa’s eyes widened as he gazed at the little girl, his body trembling. His eyes were now brimming with such affection that he looked like he wanted to sweep her into a hug.

"You... you’re not some kind of pervert, are you?" Seeing his expression, the little girl felt a sense of unease. The thought sent a shiver down her spine.

"What?" Wu Fa was stunned by the little girl’s accusation. A pervert? Me, her grandfather, a pervert?

Wang Cai was surprised at first, but soon couldn’t help but chuckle from the side.

"If you’re not a pervert, then why are you looking at me like that?" the little girl retorted, clearly unhappy. "Let me tell you, don’t think you can do anything to me just because you’re a grown-up! We’re in broad daylight, under the watchful eyes of Qiankun."

The other patrons in the restaurant felt compelled to stand up. "Hey, old man, you’re not really planning to do something to this child, are you?"

"We’re telling you, there are still good citizens here, and we will stop you!"

"That’s right, don’t even think about it!"

The restaurant was filled with their indignant cries.

"What nonsense are you all spouting?" Overwhelmed by the crowd’s accusations, Wu Fa couldn’t take it anymore. He had never been lectured so much in his entire life. "Don’t you understand? I’m her grandfather!" he roared.

The little girl grew frustrated. Grandfather? What grandfather? I don’t know any grandfather. Recalling stories she’d seen on the news, she immediately shouted, "No, no, that’s not true! I don’t know you!"

The people in the restaurant, along with the crowd gathering from the street, believed they had figured out the truth: he was a child trafficker. They knew that traffickers often pretended the children they abducted were their own. While many succeeded, some were caught by the astute and vigilant. Confident in their own intelligence, the people of Yang City began to scoff.

"Old man, you’re a child trafficker, am I wrong?"

"Still trying to fool us? In your dreams!"

"Do you think any of us in Yang City are fools? Don’t even think about deceiving us!"

Wu Fa felt the world spin. Holy shit! What kind of world is this? I’m telling the truth, and not a single person believes me!

Still, Wu Fa didn’t blame the little girl. After all, he, her grandfather, hadn’t known of her existence until today. It was perfectly normal that she didn’t know him. Wu Fa already felt a deep sense of guilt toward Murong Yezi and Wu Tian. Now, he felt that same guilt toward one more person: his granddaughter, whom he had never even held.

But Wu Fa didn’t have much time to dwell on it, as the crowd had already surrounded him, threatening to take him to the police station.

"Can you all please listen to me for a moment? I really am her grandfather!" he pleaded.

The crowd remained skeptical; some were already on the phone with the police.

The little girl, however, watched the scene with an amused expression. She possessed an intuition that others lacked, and it was gradually telling her that what Wu Fa was saying was true. He really is my grandfather. Even so, she found it difficult to accept for the moment.

Seeing the crowd closing in on Wu Fa, she quickly called out, "Uncles and aunties, please wait a moment! My dad will be back soon!"

The townspeople nodded, agreeing that everything would become clear once the girl’s father returned.

Wu Fa, however, was not pleased. "How could he leave you here all by yourself? Is that safe?" he demanded.

"Of course it’s safe! I’m very strong," the little girl said. "I’m in no danger being here alone."

Even if she is exceptionally strong, she’s still just a child. How could Wu Tian have the heart to leave such an adorable granddaughter all alone? Wu Fa fumed, cracking his knuckles and already planning to give his son a piece of his mind. He conveniently forgot that the little girl had just said her martial arts were taught by Wu Tian. He also forgot that, only moments ago, he had been wondering who could be so unlucky as to have a granddaughter like her.

Just then, Wu Tian returned. His expression was calm, showing neither sorrow nor joy. He already knew everything that had transpired. But so what? As the Immortal Emperor, he had learned to view everything with detachment—everything except his past. And Wu Fa was not part of that past. He had a mother, a wife, and a child. That was enough. As for a father? It didn’t matter whether he had one or not. As a child, Wu Tian had wanted to find his father. That desire persisted even after he graduated from college. But after experiencing so much in the Immortal Emperor Realm and traveling across the All Heavens, that yearning had faded. To suddenly call a stranger ’Dad’? Wu Tian couldn’t bring himself to do it. However, because of their blood ties, he could at least regard the man as an equal. And for someone like Wu Tian, the number of people he considered his equals could be counted on one hand.

"Daddy!" Upon seeing Wu Tian, the little girl immediately called out with joy.

Wu Fa and Wang Cai quickly turned to look. This was their first time seeing him in person, and no photograph could compare. This was the real Wu Tian.

He approached with the leisurely grace of a drifting cloud, and the people around him unconsciously parted to make way. It was as if he were the protagonist of the world itself. Anyone who laid eyes on him felt that his presence and demeanor were simply peerless.

"That’s my son! That’s my son!" Wu Fa exclaimed, his heart swelling with pride at his son’s outstanding presence.

He immediately stepped forward. "You’re finally back! But I have to say something. How could you just leave a child here all alone? You should know—"

"I know what I’m doing," Wu Tian said indifferently, cutting him off. "I don’t need you to remind me."
