Return of the King, Dominating the City-Chapter 1604 - 1498: Help!
Shadow never expected to be so lucky today. Previously, it would take hours to find an opportunity, sometimes even lying in wait for a whole day without one. But now, within just ten minutes, the chance arrived.
Once one is gone, the other can be easily handled.
Seeing the remaining man eagerly looking towards the outbuilding, Shadow leaped up. Covering his mouth from behind, a flash of cold light passed across his neck, and the man stopped struggling.
Shadow dragged the man into a small garden beside the courtyard, laying him behind a few pots of yellow chrysanthemums. Then went back to his original position. Soon, the man who went to fetch the wine returned, glanced around, but didn’t see his third brother’s shadow.
"One should take a piss before drinking, so as not to lose out," the man chuckled, opening the bottle cap, and tilted his head back to take a gulp. Just as he tilted his head, Shadow, like a Leopard that had waited long enough, sprang again, cold light flashing. Another clean and swift hunt.
Shadow perched on the wall and waved to Song Yun outside. Song Yun landed silently and sprinted towards Shadow, with a quick leap, landed on the wall, crouching beside Shadow.
"I’ll go in. You stand guard outside the door. If someone comes, take care of them. Also, are we being too ruthless towards them? We only need to take care of the Second Elder," Song Yun advised, knowing few survived under Shadow’s hand.
"As much as possible," Shadow replied nonchalantly.
Song Yun nodded, crouched, and darted forward, relying on childhood memories to find the Second Elder’s room.
Originally, the Second Elder lived in the main house of the courtyard, while his disciple stayed on either side. Song Yun carefully opened the door, tiptoed towards his room, minimizing the area of force to reduce noise. He gripped the Seven Kill tightly in his palm.
Song Yun hid outside the curtain, held his breath tight, and quietly listened to the subtle sounds inside.
Snort! Snort! Inside, there was the unique snoring sound of the Second Elder. Song Yun relaxed, assured that he was asleep.
After listening quietly for a bit longer, the snoring inside continued, with no sign of waking. Finally, Song Yun lifted the curtain and tiptoed inside. He could see the silhouette on the bed; the person didn’t notice anyone’s arrival, facing inward, sleeping soundly, with snores rising and falling.
Song Yun reached the bedside, just about to slash the Seven Kill onto the neck of the person lying on the bed, when suddenly something felt wrong. Quickly retreating, he crashed through the wooden window and jumped out.
The person lying on the bed wasn’t the Second Elder. Although he’d imitated the snoring of the Second Elder, Song Yun couldn’t tell anything wrong even after listening for a long time. But he was too small, nowhere near the Second Elder’s stature. And the exposed hair was slightly shorter than the Second Elder’s. These might be minor details, but to Song Yun, they were sufficiently telling.
Landing in the large courtyard, Song Yun was about to call Shadow to hurry and escape, but his mouth opened, shut again in a forced smile. Shadow stood in the middle of the yard, a cold expression, the courtyard gates wide open, a group of people entering. Leading them were the Second Elder and several elders from the sect. Upon seeing Song Yun jump from the window, they looked at him with peculiar expressions.
"What? Came here and now leaving so soon?" The Second Elder asked Song Yun with a full smile.
"Haha, after being taught by the Second Elder for many years, a return visit is necessary. I didn’t expect the Second Elder to not be here. So I have to head back," Song Yun explained knowingly.
"A visit? With a knife to visit me?" The Second Elder sneered, eyeing the knife in Song Yun’s hand.
"Knife? Oh, you’re talking about the Seven Kill? It’s my life weapon; if I’m here, it’s here, too. It can’t be out of reach. Don’t misunderstand, Uncle," Song Yun replied, spreading his hands with the Seven Kill.
"And how do you explain jumping out of the window?" The Supreme Elder, full of wrinkles, asked angrily.
"Jumping out of the window, oh, there was someone lying in Second Elder’s bed claiming there was a ghost in the room, and I got scared and jumped out of the window. If you don’t believe me, go in and see, that person is still lying on Second Elder’s bed," Song Yun argued.
"Brother, don’t waste words with that kid. Just end it. Couldn’t kill him a few years ago, today, same," sneered the Sixth Elder.
"Exactly, such treacherous brats are a nuisance if alive."
"You go first, find my master," Song Yun whispered to Shadow.
"You go," Shadow stood directly in front of Song Yun, using his body to shield him.
There were only two on Song Yun’s side while the opponent had seven, eight...ten or so. Not to mention they were outnumbered; even on quality, though Song Yun often called those elders useless, they were quite formidable in fights.
"Shadow, do you still have the gun?" Song Yun asked quietly from behind Shadow.
"Yes." Shadow’s eyes unwaveringly focused on the enemies ahead.
"How many can you take out?"
"Six. If they stay still."
"Then use our final move," Song Yun whispered.
"That’s your forte," Shadow replied.
"Damn it, it’s always me," Song Yun muttered disdainfully. Suddenly, Song Yun’s heart-wrenching scream echoed in the courtyard: "Help! The Second Elder is going to kill someone, help! Help!"
The Second Elder hesitated, then signaled to a disciple beside him to close the courtyard gate.
"Supreme Elder, what should we do?" the Second Elder humbly asked the Supreme Elder next to him.
"What to do? Fast, decisive battle. Clean up our people. How could such waste be a member of our Green Dragon Sect? Should’ve slapped him dead years ago. It’s disgraceful," the Supreme Elder said, panting. Watching the potential next Sect Leader shouting for help was infuriating. The sect’s misfortune!
"Yes," Second Elder nodded respectfully to the Supreme Elder. Then waved his hand. The group of Elder Council followers and his disciples rushed towards Shadow and Song Yun. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"Fast decisive battle," the Second Elder shouted, bypassing Shadow and rushing towards Song Yun behind. His hatred for this fellow ran deep.
He hadn’t expected Song Yun to strike so soon upon returning, but to be safe, he let a disciple who excelled at mimicry lie in his bed.
He was discussing how to deal with Song Yun in the Elder Council with several elders. When his people reported seeing Song Yun and Shadow sneaking out of the main house, his first thought was they were coming to kill him. He immediately brought elders in to block him, and indeed, it was a trap to catch him.
Song Yun stood still, dark eyes slightly narrowed. Long hair whipped by the biting cold wind, yet his body burned with a fierce fighting spirit.
Despite having just shouted for help, whether anyone would come or when they would come was unknown. They only needed a little time to tear apart himself and Shadow. Even if the old man arrives, he’d only find pieces. It was his attack first; they could justify a hundred reasons for their actions, with the Supreme Elders siding with the Second Elder. Dying would be in vain.
Song Yun doesn’t want to die. He has too much unfinished business and people he cannot abandon. So, for his survival, others must die.
