Return With the Billionaire Baby Daddy-Chapter 110: Valerie finds out about Karina
"Valerie..." Elena immediately approached Valerie and hugged her.
Valerie just remained silent in her tears, feeling afraid considering Damian’s condition.
"Damian... he came to save us but he got injured," she said after Elena released her hug. "I’m really scared... Forgive me, it’s because of me!" she continued, sobbing.
"It’s okay, he did what he had to do as a father," replied Elena anxiously, then turned to Daniel and picked him up. "Thank God you’re okay," she continued, kissing Daniel.
"Samuel stabbed him... he also hit him," said Daniel with a serious look.
"You shouldn’t have seen that, you must be very traumatized..." Elena hugged Daniel, her eyes welling up, imagining the situation during the rescue, but she also thought about Damian’s current condition.
Valerie wiped her tears, then gathered the courage to glance at Darius who was staring at her intently.
"It seems I can’t stay silent anymore," said Darius with his sharp gaze. "For the second time, Damian has suffered because of you... You’re truly a disaster for him, for our family!" he continued, pointing at Valerie.
Elena immediately turned to Darius.
"You’d better stay away from Damian... Because of you, he’s so messed up, neglecting his future, disrespecting his parents, and even disrespecting himself... And now he’s injured, hurt because of your recklessness because you’re too cheap to keep dealing with Samuel!" Darius exclaimed again, then looked at Daniel. "And you couldn’t protect Daniel... He’d be better off with Damian, he’ll live in our family with full facilities including protection... He’ll be better off than with you!" he continued angrily.
Valerie bowed her head, suddenly feeling guilty for trusting Samuel too much, even accepting his love, making her feel like she gave him false hope, leading to such resentment.
"Get out of here!" Darius shouted again.
"Hey..." Elena immediately frowned and approached Darius. "You have no right to push her away or make decisions without letting her choose. You also have no right to keep her away from Damian... If you want the best for Damian and Daniel, then just let Damian marry her, they’ll live happily protecting each other because Samuel will surely be caught, and the problem will be solved!" She asserted.
"Then what about Karina?" Darius asked. "Don’t you remember she’s dying and Damian promised to always be there for her... He’ll prioritize her over Valerie... I’d rather have him with her than with Valerie because being with her doesn’t put him in danger!"
Valerie was suddenly stunned, not understanding what was meant by Karina’s dying condition.
"If she had any sense, she wouldn’t let Damian get close to her!" Darius exclaimed, pointing at Valerie.
She shook her head. "I don’t know about that..."
"Damian didn’t tell you because he thought it would make you give up on your relationship," Elena explained, facing Valerie. "He just feels pity for Karina... But deep down, he wants to marry you... He didn’t tell you because he didn’t want to hurt you... And he can’t leave Karina before she undergoes the transplant because he thinks Karina needs his support..."
Valerie fell silent, then remembered Damian starting to visit her less, and it turned out it was because Karina was sick. Her heart wanted to understand that it was an act of compassion as human beings, but she also couldn’t deny her feelings of jealousy and resentment.
"Everything’s complicated, Damian shouldn’t marry her at all!" Darius exclaimed with a hateful look. "I’m sick of the problems she’s causing Damian... It’s time he calms down, with Karina who loves him without causing any trouble... Besides, she’ll be healthy again after the transplant!"
"But Damian doesn’t love her!" Elena argued.
"He does love her!" Darius insisted. "I’m sure behind his caring attitude, there’s love. But he feels he should be with Valerie because of Daniel. It would be better if Daniel stayed with us... Damian won’t feel obligated to be with Valerie again!"
"How selfish of you! You want to separate her from Damian, then take his son... Where’s your instinct as a parent?" Elena asked, her breath racing, emotional, ignoring Daniel who was confused and shouldn’t have heard their argument.
Darius sighed heavily, then looked away. "I’m just doing what’s best!"
"For you, it’s the best but for Damian, Valerie, or Daniel, your thoughts are a disaster for them!" Elena exclaimed frustratedly. "You only think about Karina, Karina, and always Karina... You only think about making her happy because she’s sick, while you don’t think about how to make your son happy... And you don’t need to think about that because you already know what makes him happy, but you’ve trapped him in this crazy arranged marriage!"
Darius remained silent, as if unable to respond to Elena’s words anymore.
"You always say what’s best but actually, you’re the foolish one!"
"How dare you say that to your husband?" Darius asked loudly.
"I’m stating the truth," Elena replied, and then her attention was drawn to the open emergency room door. She immediately approached the doctor there, while Valerie stood up.
Darius immediately pulled Valerie and then pushed her to sit back down. "You won’t see him! It’s better if you leave!"
"But I want to see how he’s doing." Valerie pleaded.
"You’re not allowed!" Darius warned, pointing at Valerie, then quickly approached the doctor.
Valerie remained silent, her eyes welled up, so eager to see Damian but lacking the courage.
"Don’t worry," Hans whispered, who had been silent since earlier. "You’ll meet Damian, and you’ll still have him as your man. He’s not a 5-year-old who can’t defy his parents’ orders," he continued, leaning his head towards Valerie.
Valerie just remained silent, trying to believe in Hans’ words but the explanation about Karina’s condition and Damian’s concern for Karina made her worry that Damian didn’t want to keep her and that today’s rescue was only for Daniel.
...
Elena entered the room and saw Damian looking weak, shirtless with thick bandages on, wearing oxygen and several other medical equipment on his chest and hands while the lower part of his body up to the stomach was covered with a yellowish-white blanket.
"Damian," she said sadly.
Damian glanced at Daniel, then smiled. "He’s alright," he whispered.
"Yes, your son is alright... What you did wasn’t in vain, now you have to fight for yourself to always be strong and endure," Elena replied with a smile.
"I’m strong, I’ll be fine..." Damian shifted his gaze to his father who came, but he quickly looked at his mother. "Where’s Valerie?"
"She won’t see you again, she’s realized that she’s only bad luck for you," Darius said.
Damian immediately clenched his fists and stared at his father with a sharp look. "What did you say to her? Did you ask her to leave?"
"No, he’s the one who wants to leave!"
"No, I’m sure he wouldn’t do that!" Damian exclaimed, quickly sitting up while holding back his pain. "I won’t let him leave me!"
"Damian!" Darius pushed Damian to lie back down. "Don’t be crazy, there’s no point in chasing after that crazy girl!"
"You’re the crazy one!" Damian glared while trying to sit back up, but his father kept restraining him to stay lying down. "Let me go, I want to see her!"
"I’m here..."
Damian’s and the others’ gaze immediately shifted to the voice coming from the door.
