Chapter 127: marriage and cunning

In a white-themed hotel room adorned with white flowers, gifts, and many greeting cards, Karina stood admiring herself in a large white gown cinched at the waist, her hair styled in a half updo, wearing gold heels and a series of white diamond jewelry, and jasmine-scented perfume.

"Finally, my daughter is getting married..."

Karina saw her father approaching, then returned her focus to the mirror.

"Don’t you know, you’re so beautiful. Just like your mother," Adam said again.

"Beautiful only, but not happy," Karina replied with a blank stare. "This is not what I want."

Adam sighed, trying to remain calm despite being saddened by Karina’s confession. He knew Karina still harbored feelings for Damian, but it was impossible to pursue him again; it would only make her look so low.

"Tristan is a good man, and he’s also the father of that baby, and he can help me manage the company. He can provide better than Damian," he said calmly.

"Sometimes good men are boring..."

"You will love him, you have to try and never give up." Adam drew Karina closer. "Let’s go to the aisle... He’s waiting for you. He’ll be the man obligated to make you happy, he’s my replacement. I prefer him over Damian..."

Karina took a long breath, and bowed her head, silent, seemingly hesitant to go through with the marriage, but remembering all that had been prepared and not wanting to continue lingering in Damian’s shadow, she reluctantly embraced her father’s arm.

Adam smiled, leading Karina out of the room, continuing down the corridor toward the stairs leading directly to the ballroom where the wedding reception was being held.

...

Damian sat alongside the guests and relatives in white chairs facing the aisle where Tristan stood. He sat next to Daniel on his lap, both looking cool in black suits without ties while his wife wore a golden white dress, her hair tousled in waves, adorned with jewelry and complete makeup.

Slowly the music echoed Shania Twain’s song "From This Moment On" accompanying Karina’s arrival with her father, walking across the gray carpet towards the aisle.

The attendees in the white-themed ballroom with white flowers and large green leaf-adorned pillars stood, allowing them to pass with awe-inspiring gazes.

"Oh my God, she’s so beautiful," Valerie murmured, glancing at Karina walking slowly with her head slightly bowed.

Damian fell silent with his blank stare, seeing Karina only made him feel resentful again, recalling her lies that had ultimately delayed his happiness with Valerie.

"I hope this isn’t a deception," he muttered softly.

Valerie immediately turned to him. "What?"

"Nothing..." Damian shook his head. "I just want to go home soon..." He sat back down.

Valerie glanced at Damian in bewilderment, pulling him to stand again.

"What’s wrong with you?"

"I’m fine..." Damian reluctantly stood up again, glancing at the object that had arrived at the altar, and was immediately greeted by Tristan.

Valerie sat back down, as did the others, watching the series of blessings. She smiled as they began to exchange wedding vows, reminding her of her wedding to Damian.

"Dada..."

Daniel stood up and then hugged Damian’s neck.

"What?" Damian whispered.

"I don’t like it here," Daniel answered, then looked around at the strangers. "I want to meet Grandma Elena," he continued with a pout.

Damian smiled immediately. "So, you miss your grandma?"

Daniel just nodded.

"Okay, we’ll go there after the party’s over," Damian said, then put Daniel back on his lap, leaning towards Valerie who was focused on the blessing. "Daniel wants to leave," he whispered.

"Oh my God, that’s not possible," Valerie whispered anxiously. "We can’t leave the party before it’s over, even Tristan wants us to attend the party until the night," she continued seriously.

"But Daniel doesn’t like it here... You know he doesn’t like parties, right?"

Valerie fell silent, glancing at Daniel’s bad mood, understanding that he indeed didn’t like it here.

"Alright then, let’s take him to my mom’s, then after that, we’ll come back here," Damian said.

"Are you sure that won’t bother your mom?" Valerie asked anxiously.

"No, in fact, she’ll like it."

Valerie looked back at the altar, where Tristan was putting the ring on Karina’s finger, and vice versa. She immediately applauded, along with the other attendees, and it became more lively when they kissed.

"Oh my God, look at them, they’re so perfect!" she exclaimed enthusiastically.

Damian just smiled faintly, seeing Karina smile but it seemed forced, and sometimes her gaze focused on him instead.

’What is this? Why is she looking at me like that, does she still want me?’

"Hey..." Valerie looked back at Damian. "Is something wrong?"

"No..." Damian shook his head. "We can talk about this later."

"Okay..."

Valerie looked back ahead, and together they approached their parents to hug and kiss, accept congratulations, and meet their friends until they approached her.

She stood up and looked at Karina somewhat awkwardly.

"Congratulations on your wedding," she said. "You look so beautiful... And I wouldn’t even realize that you’re pregnant!" she continued enthusiastically, brushing off her awkwardness.

"Thank you because you’re also very beautiful," Karina replied with a smile, looking at Valerie, who indeed was beautiful, but when she glanced at Damian, she felt reluctant to let him go again. "Now I understand why Damian was so crazy about you... You are amazing!" she continued.

"You are also so beautiful, that’s why Tristan is crazy about you and will do anything to make you happy," Damian replied with a cynical look.

Valerie immediately elbowed Damian’s stomach, signaling him to be careful with his words.

"Valerie," Tristan greeted.

Valerie immediately hugged him.

"Congratulations on your wedding. I’m sure this is the best, and you’ll be a good husband," she whispered.

"Thank you, Valerie," Tristan replied.

Valerie let go of him and looked at Tristan, who looked so handsome in his gray suit and neatly combed hair.

"You look better today."

"Of course, it’s my day!" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

Tristan smiled happily, then looked at Damian who was holding Daniel when usually during important events like this, his son would be with Hannah.

"Where’s Hannah?" he asked.

"It’s a pity that Hannah doesn’t work with us anymore," Valerie answered with a sad look.

Tristan frowned. "Why is that? I mean... I thought she liked working with you guys. Why did she resign when you no longer have any problems?" He wondered with astonishment.

"I don’t know, but let it be... Maybe that’s her choice." Valerie sighed resignedly.

"We should take him to my parents’s house," Damian said. "He doesn’t like crowds like this, so it’s better if I give him to my mom," he continued.

Tristan nodded.

"You’ll be in trouble if you don’t find a replacement for Hannah," he said.

"Don’t worry, we’ve already booked a babysitter from the best foundation here," Damian replied casually, then glanced at Valerie. "Let’s go, darling," he continued, always quick to leave his seat.

Valerie said goodbye to Tristan and Karina, then hurriedly followed Damian while clutching her cream-colored branded bag.

Tristan looked back at Karina, who was lost in thought, watching Damian and Valerie slowly move out of sight, making him worry if she still desired him or was jealous.

"You okay?" he asked.

"Yeah... I was just thinking maybe we could be happy like them... Because we’ll have a baby," Karina answered with a smile.

Tristan smiled relieved, gazing at Karina with admiration, then kissed her lips briefly.

"We will indeed be happy like them if you believe in me," he said.

"I believe you," Karina replied with a smile, then embraced Tristan and rested her head on his chest. ’But now I know how to destroy them. Sooner or later... People as shameless as them don’t deserve to be happy!’ she thought with a cunning smile.

...

Elsewhere, in Arizona, Samuel entered a minimalist house with a monochrome theme with Hannah, dragging their respective suitcases.

"I think it’s not bad," Hannah said, looking around the house.

Samuel touched the gray sofa and saw his fingers immediately covered in dust.

"But we need to clean everything, this house is very dusty," he said.

"I’m tired...." Hannah walked towards another room, then opened the door and saw a minimalist but neatly arranged bedroom.

She entered and placed her suitcase next to the sofa, then took off her black jacket and shoes.

"Are you going to rest now?" Samuel asked, entering the room.

"Of course."

"Wait a moment, I’ll clean the bed," Samuel said, quickly taking off his dusty gray jacket and using it to clean the somewhat dusty surface of the bed. "Oh my God... you can’t sleep here now. I need to change the sheets!" he said irritably.

Hannah remained silent, sitting on the edge of the sofa, watching Samuel swiftly remove the white sheets from the bed, then open his suitcase to take out gray sheets and put them on the bed.

’He’s a good and caring man. Could he have changed? Could he love me because I carry our baby?’ she wondered to herself, slowly smiling as if impressed with Samuel. ’I should just believe... after all, he’s my hope... Maybe Hans has forgotten about me.’ Her smile faded, overshadowed by the image of the handsome and very attentive Hans.
