Chapter 153: become my sister

Hans parked his car in Damian’s mansion courtyard. He immediately got out, helped Hannah out of the car, and took her hand, leading her towards the main door.

"Ugh, this is so uncomfortable!" Hannah exclaimed with an uncomfortable look, as if in pain.

"Do you want me to carry you?" Hans asked.

"No, it’s not necessary... Just walk slowly," Hannah replied with a thin smile. "Besides, what would people say if you carried me?"

Hans smiled. "That wouldn’t be a problem. I’ll just say you needed to be carried because you are sick."

"Yeah, but it would look weird, and I’d seem like a spoiled girl!"

"Even though you’re not a spoiled girl, you’ll be pampered by someone who loves you," Hans said as he helped Hannah up the stairs slowly.

"Who loves me?" Hannah asked.

"Well..." Hans sighed. "You don’t need someone to say they love you to know if you’re loved or not. You should be able to feel it."

Hannah fell silent, continuing to walk but pondering Hans’s recent words. ’Did he mean himself? Why didn’t he say it? Or maybe he doesn’t want to say it because he’s changed? He doesn’t want me anymore because I’ve been married to Samuel, even ever been pregnant?’ she wondered in her heart, suddenly feeling insecure.

"Hannah!"

Valerie immediately greeted Hannah from the living room, quickly embracing her gently for a moment.

"Oh my God... I’m so glad you’re finally back," Valerie exclaimed enthusiastically, looking at Hannah, who looked elegant in a dark green dress with open arms and a thin black blazer.

Hannah smiled faintly, looking at Valerie’s slightly bulging belly. It made her feel sad again, remembering a few days ago when she was pregnant too and had hoped to have a child who would be her new motivation.

"Hans, take her to the room Viviane has prepared," Valerie said, looking at Hans.

"I thought I’d just rest in the pavilion," Hannah replied.

Valerie shook her head immediately. "No, you won’t stay there anymore. You’ll stay here!" she said with a sad but firm look, while Hannah just looked down.

She held both of Hannah’s shoulders, staring deep into her eyes.

"I’m so sorry for treating you badly all this time because I kept harboring resentment and disappointment. I realize I shouldn’t have been like that because regardless you’ve been so helpful in my life... Sometimes I feel so stupid for treating you so badly without looking back at the kindness before... How could I make you live alone in the pavilion while pregnant when you were always there for me when I was pregnant without Damian by my side," she said sadly. "I’m so sorry... I’m the stupidest woman because I don’t know how to be grateful... I should have hugged you when you were broken because of Samuel’s behavior..." Finally, she couldn’t hold back her tears.

"You’re not wrong," Hannah whispered with her brave smile. "I know you acted like that because you were too stressed with the problems you faced, you were traumatized by Samuel’s betrayal, Clara, Tristan... That must have made it hard for you to trust me," she continued.

"But I shouldn’t have let you be alone."

"It’s okay... I don’t mind."

"But now I won’t let that happen again, you’ll stay here, in this mansion, not in the pavilion anymore," Valerie said firmly. "You’re here as my sister, not a maid or babysitter. Okay?"

"But..." Hannah seemed hesitant.

"You’re here as a family, you’re part of this family. You’ll have everything you need like car facilities, laptops, nice clothes, bags, heels... you... you’ll live a life equal to mine... You can do whatever you want!" Valerie explained bluntly.

Hannah swallowed her saliva, feeling undeserving of it all.

"Valerie... I..."

"I don’t want rejection," Valerie said, then held Hannah’s right hand. "From now on, you’re my sister..."

"Thank you," Hannah whispered.

Valerie smiled, immediately taking Hannah into the mansion and heading straight to the room on the ground floor, while Hans stopped in the living room.

’Hmm... now she’s not a maid, not a babysitter... To be able to propose to her, I have to have my car, and house, and be able to hold a wedding party. That will be difficult... Maybe I need to work for a few months to add to my savings to get all that... I hope she won’t be tempted by other men while I’m still gathering money,’ he thought anxiously.

...

Upon arriving in the room, Valerie helped Hannah to lean on the bed, then helped her take off her blazer and put on a blue blanket up to her belly.

"You need to rest, don’t think too much... And imagine a better life," Valerie said with a smile, then sat on the edge of the bed.

Hannah just nodded, suddenly feeling awkward to look into Valerie’s eyes.

"Anyway... Samuel is free... I forgot to give you the freedom to choose to stay with him or here," Valerie said, her smile fading. ’and actually, I hope you choose to stay here... There’s no need to continue your marriage with Samuel because you deserve better,’ she thought.

"Thank you for letting him come back even though he was so mean to you and Damian," Hannah said, her face showing sadness in her eyes. "He came to me this morning... He proved to me that he’s conditionally free and promised not to harm you again... he’s also very happy to get his assets back so he won’t live in poverty... And he wants to invite me to start a better life," she continued, her eyes teary, haunted by Samuel’s disappointed look.

"So, do you want to go back to him?" Valerie asked.

Hannah shook her head.

"I can’t... I feel like I want to give him a chance, but I also feel like I don’t want to... I don’t know... I guess I don’t like him anymore... But it feels so sad when I reject him because he’s prepared a better life for us," Hannah said, occasionally wiping away her tears. "I feel wrong because he’s also sad after losing our baby... He expected to be happy with me because he thought I still loved him... But I shattered it... I just... I just can’t be with him any more out of pity... I feel like... Like wanting something new. I’m pretty sick of our past."

Valerie immediately hugged Hannah, letting her cry for a few moments.

"I’ve hurt him, disappointed him... Am I too evil?" Hannah asked when Valerie released her embrace.

"No, you’re not evil..." Valerie shook her head, then wiped Hannah’s tears. "Everyone has the right to choose and respect other people’s choices... If he understands himself and his mistakes, then he will accept your decision gracefully... Disappointment is inevitable... But it will only be temporary and then he will rebuild his life. And hopefully, he won’t think of doing bad things like before again... I don’t want to see him shattered for the second time."

Hannah nodded and wiped her nose with the back of her hand.

"Looks like you haven’t had breakfast," Valerie said as she got up from the bed. "I’ll ask Viviane to prepare breakfast for you."

"I’m not hungry," replied Hannah.

"Hey, you still need to eat breakfast. You need to recover quickly, then get your body back in shape and ideal!" Valerie warned with a serious look and reflexively sat back down. "After you’ve fully recovered and can exercise, you need to exercise... You need to go to the beauty salon... Get facial and hair treatments... Then you’ll go shopping for classy and beautiful clothes... You’ll become a sophisticated, respected girl... And it would be great if you also learned to be an influencer... So you won’t be seen as unemployed or just living off your family’s money. You need to be an independent classy girl!" She emphasized, looking at Hannah, who looked naturally beautiful with minimal makeup.

"Do you think I need all that to get a better man?" Hannah asked. "What if it just traps me into materialistic men? Honestly, I’m afraid of falling into promiscuity... I worry I won’t be able to protect myself."

Valerie sighed heavily, shifting slightly in her seat as her waist was a bit tired.

"Making yourself look classy, beautiful, and successful doesn’t mean you’re promoting yourself to get a man. It’s not like that... You’re doing it to honor yourself, to show love to yourself," she said casually. "It would be great if you married a man who’s always there for you... Not just there for you in your successful times. I think you know who I mean," she continued with a smile.

Hannah fell silent, immediately thinking of Hans, as he was the only one who had been there for her this far.

"He was the first to help you when you fell down the stairs... Then he didn’t leave you at all when you were in the hospital," Valerie said. "He was very worried about you...but I saw love in his eyes."

"He also sent me food when Samuel left me," Hannah replied somewhat reluctantly. "He asked one of his friends to send me food.... I don’t know how he knew that I was struggling at that time."

"Really?" Valerie rolled her eyes.

Hannah just nodded.

"That means he loves you, he cares about you, Hannah! You don’t need to find another man anymore... He is already here to be with you... God brought him to you!"
