Chapter 166: Should they tell Samuel?

After negotiating and intense debates between Damian and Tristan, finally, the police and lawyers found a way out and asked Hannah to make her decision by signing the agreement letter drawn up at that time.

Karina was freed from punishment but banned from Carson City. Tristan’s submission as a guarantor was rejected, so if Karina made another mistake, she would indeed be punished without the chance for parole or unconditional release.

Karina and Tristan soon left the Mansion, while Damian dealt with the police and lawyers as Hannah returned to her room escorted by Valerie.

"Leave me alone," Hannah requested wearily as she sat on the sofa.

"Are you sure?" Valerie looked at her anxiously.

"Yeah... I need some time alone."

"Hannah... you can change your decision anytime you want... If you’re not willing to let her go free, then you can punish her," Valerie said anxiously, feeling that Hannah wasn’t entirely willing to let Karina go unpunished.

Hannah sighed, her gaze empty, facing the white curtains, while her mind focused on her baby’s grave.

"My baby is at peace in heaven. I don’t want to distress him by thinking of his mother being cruel by punishing another pregnant woman," she whispered. "I’m sure... His not being born into this world was for his good, his choice, and the accident was just a mediator. Besides, what’s the point of making Karina suffer? It won’t change anything, it won’t affect me," she continued, then turned to Valerie.

"I’ll be fine, I’m just a bit shocked..." She reassured her.

"Alright... I’ll leave you alone," Valerie replied with a thin smile, then left the room.

...

Arriving outside the room, Valerie saw Damian had returned from outside while the guests were no longer in the living room.

"They all left?"

"Yes... Everything’s settled."

Damian approached Valerie and immediately hugged her. "Now everything’s okay. No more problems!" He let go of her and smiled.

Valerie remained silent, then walked to the sofa in the living room. Damian followed until they sat down.

"But Hannah still looks sad," he said.

"I think it’s because she’s still in shock," Damian replied casually, then took out his phone from his pants pocket and checked the time. "Oh shit, it’s time to pick up Daniel!" he exclaimed, surprised, then stood up and looked at Valerie.

"Don’t you want to come?"

Valerie shook her head. "I’m dizzy... I’m sick!"

"Is this because of the recent problem?"

"Maybe..."

"Oh come on..." Damian sighed, looking at Valerie with frustration. "Now the problem is over. Okay, now it’s time to celebrate... we should celebrate this good day... Now we don’t have any enemies anymore... Samuel can’t harm us, neither can Karina!" He pleaded with a pleading look.

Valerie remained silent with a pout, still thinking about Hannah.

"I’ll tell you something." Damian reached out his hand to Valerie.

"What?"

"It’s just news... But I’m sure it will make you happy," Damian explained, raising his eyebrows and smiling.

Reluctantly, Valerie reached for Damian’s hand and then stood up. They walked to the yard where the car was already waiting there.

...

In the room, Hannah pondered as she looked at the ultrasound photos of her baby, photos of the grave, and some photos after birth with such a small and dark reddish complexion. Occasionally she wiped her tears, unable to hold back her tears.

"Baby.... if only mommy were careful, maybe you wouldn’t have left mommy," she said sadly.

Suddenly her attention was drawn to her phone on the bed, then she picked it up and saw a missed call from Samuel.

"Your Daddy..." She took a long breath, then answered the call. "Hello?"

"Hey..." Samuel greeted, his voice sounding so weak as if he had no strength. "How are you?"

"I... I’m fine," Hannah whispered with her tears suddenly falling again, remembering Samuel’s disappointed face when he found out that their baby was gone.

"I know you cry... what happened? Did Damian and Valerie mistreat you?" Samuel asked, sounding panicked.

"No... They’ve been very kind to me, you don’t need to worry."

"But why are you crying? Something must have happened..."

Hannah remained silent, feeling too lazy to discuss the problem she had just faced.

"Hannah... I may not be your husband anymore... Okay. We agreed to live our own lives, we’ll find our love. But I love you... I don’t want you to be sad, I don’t want you to suffer. Tell me how to make you happy again. If you want me to stay away, I’ve stayed away... But if you need me, I’ll come back whenever you want." Samuel persuaded.

"It’s not about our relationship," Hannah whispered anxiously.

"Then?"

"It’s about the person who told Fanny to scatter Daniel’s toy beads on the stairs... I know who that person is," Hannah explained while remembering Karina and Tristan.

"Tell me!" Now Samuel sounded so cold.

"You don’t need to know, the problem is over, period. Damian and Valerie have done something fair for all of us... You don’t need to interfere."

"Oh really? But I’m the father so the baby... I need to know who the real perpetrator is because even though you were a mistaken victim, you’re still a victim and greatly harmed... we lost... This is murder, it can’t be allowed!" Samuel sounded very angry.

Hannah remained silent with a fearful feeling, imagining that Samuel had come and might be angry at Damian or Valerie for letting Karina go free.

"Hannah, tell me!"

"I don’t want any more problems, everything is settled peacefully... I’m tired of arguing or facing people who can’t understand my feelings... Please... Please don’t bring up this issue again!" Hannah asserted.

"Okay..."

Suddenly the phone call was disconnected, making Hannah feel anxious, unsure if Samuel would remain silent after this.

’Oh God, what should I do now!’ she wondered in her heart.

...

Damian drove his car leisurely, listening to music from Justin Timberlake’s song titled "Mirror", occasionally glancing at Valerie who was just daydreaming while looking at the scenery from the window.

"Do you want to eat something?" he asked.

"I don’t want anything except something you want to talk about," Valerie replied without looking.

"Oh right!" Damian suddenly slapped his forehead and grinned. "I forgot to tell you... Sorry, I completely forgot!"

Valerie smiled thinly.

"You’re about to have two children, but why are you already senile?"

"I’m not senile... I just think too much..."

"Tell me what you want to say," Valerie requested.

"Well..." Damian sighed. "It’s about Hans. He borrowed so much money from me... At first, I hesitated to give it to him, but after he explained why, I’ll give him the money."

Valerie frowned. "So, what’s the money for?" she asked.

Damian smiled. "To buy a house... To propose to Hannah."

Valerie widened her eyes. "Really?"

"Yes..."

"Oh my God..." Valerie covered her mouth with her hands, instantly imagining how happy Hannah would be with what Hans was going to do when her heart was so sad now.

"So, now you shouldn’t be sad anymore. She will be happy with Hans," Damian said.

"Yeah, I hope so... They’re perfect together!" Valerie replied enthusiastically, but suddenly she heard Damian’s phone ringing.

Damian immediately picked it up and saw an incoming call from an unknown number, then answered it while focusing on driving.

"Hello?"

"Who killed my son?" someone asked from the phone.

Damian furrowed his brow, trying to recognize the voice.

"Tell me!"

"Samuel?"

"Yes... It’s Samuel. Tell me who arranged the incident of Hannah falling down the stairs? I know Hannah wasn’t the real target, but she was a victim. I need to know who the real perpetrator is!" Samuel sounded upset.

Damian took a sharp breath, feeling a bit anxious considering Samuel’s malicious nature, while Valerie stared at him curiously.

"What are you going to do? Are you going to do something bad to that perpetrator? Don’t you remember your limits? If you engage in criminal activities even once, you’ll be imprisoned for life!"

"Please, just tell me!"

"No... I won’t tell you."

"Damian, please!" Samuel sounded frustrated. "I want to know... I won’t do anything bad. I’m not that crazy... I won’t ruin my life by committing crimes... But I want to know!"

Damian bit his lower lip, feeling anxious in his dilemma, whether to tell Samuel or not.
