Return With the Billionaire Baby Daddy-Chapter 86: They are fraudsters
Demian hurriedly walked down the corridor towards the ER room, greeted by his father already there.
"Dad..."
"Something bad happened to Karina," Darius said with a worried look.
"Anna said she fainted... What exactly happened to make her like this?" Damian asked, furrowing his brow.
"I don’t know, but maybe she’s exhausted or has too much on her mind... You know she has to stay calm, right?"
Damian fell silent, then glanced towards the newly opened room door and saw a male doctor in a white suit approaching him.
"Dr. John, how is she?" he asked.
"Her heart is weakening, coupled with her blood pressure being so high... It’s very life-threatening," Dr. John replied with a flat gaze. "I’m worried she won’t survive without a donor... That’s what concerns me. She could suddenly deteriorate and endanger her life at any moment... We need to take care of her so she doesn’t deteriorate, including her mental health, and her thoughts... We need to prioritize her happiness... Keep her calm," he continued casually.
Damian fell silent, remembering his lack of attention towards Karina, and lately spending more time with Valerie.
’Is this because she’s jealous... Does she think every time I’m not with her means I’m with Valerie? But why should she feel that? Why should she think about it when she agreed not to marry me before? Or could it be that she secretly likes me?’ he wondered to himself.
"You should contact her family," Dr. John said, diverting Demian’s attention.
"You should be the one to contact them," Damian said, looking at his father, then quickly entered the room without asking for permission from Dr. John.
Dr. John glanced at Darius, raising his eyebrows. "He looks confused and worried about her."
Darius smiled thinly. "This is progress!"
"This is something very risky for my career. Don’t forget to give me what I want soon," Dr. John said, patting Darius’s arm, then left immediately.
Darius sighed, then entered the ER room and saw Damian looking at Karina with concern.
"Is something bothering you that you’re not calm and... Ended up fainting?" Damian asked anxiously, looking at Karina wearing an oxygen, even her hand was attached to an IV. She looked genuinely ill!
"I wasn’t thinking about anything," Karina whispered.
"No... You must be thinking about something."
"It’s Okay..." Karina bent her face. "I just... I just didn’t expect that I would die soon... I just feel unimaginable that my life should end in pain, at the age of only 26 years old... It’s like a nightmare."
"You will stay alive, you will soon get a donor," Damian said, then reached for Karina’s hand and looked at her with melancholy. "You have to believe, I will be by your side, I will not leave you until you recover!" he continued with conviction.
Karina pulled her hand away until Damian let go.
"Don’t mind me..."
Damian was surprised, seeing Karina turning her face away.
"You don’t belong to me, and I know you don’t like me," Karina said, her voice trembling as if she were crying.
Damian fell silent, feeling sorry, but also unable to give her false promises about love because he was still trying to return to Valerie.
"Damian," Darius called.
Damian immediately turned, then approached Darius.
"Don’t you pity her?" Darius asked.
Damian just remained silent with his worried gaze on Karina, who seemed to be wiping her eyes as if crying.
"Can you make her happy so she keeps fighting until she gets a donor?" Darius asked.
"I don’t know," Damian answered anxiously. "I don’t love her, I don’t want to..."
"You don’t want to leave Valerie for her?" Darius guessed.
Damian just remained silent.
"Damian, this time I can’t stop you... You have the right to be back with her, you have the right to try to get her back. But now can you focus on what’s urgent first?" Darius asked with his frustrated gaze. "Or just be honest with Valerie... If she’s a good girl, she’ll understand your position!" he continued, occasionally pointing toward Karina.
Damian just remained silent, turning his gaze away, thinking of Valerie who was still so cold to him, even he couldn’t prove that he was only trapped by Clara.
....
Valerie approached Hannah who was eating, then sat across from her and took the available chicken nuggets in front of her and ate them.
"Why did he leave in such a hurry?" Hannah asked.
"I don’t know, maybe he has business at the office," Valerie replied casually, then remembered about Samuel. "Anyway... Samuel came again. He saw me while shopping with Tristan and Adriana, and then he quietly followed me," she continued with a worried look.
Hannah immediately stopped eating, looking at Valerie but her mind focused on Samuel, not expecting him to still be trying to see Valerie.
"Now I feel uncomfortable again, I’m always haunted by guilt for rejecting him," Valerie said again.
"Um..." Hannah swallowed her saliva. "Does he look sad or show hope towards you?"
"I don’t know, it’s hard to understand him."
"I thought he already had a new girlfriend," Hannah said, then resumed eating nuggets dipped in sauce.
"I don’t know, he didn’t mention anything about it at all," replied Valerie then got up. "But I hope he came just because it’s my birthday. He gave me something," she continued while taking a paper bag near the door leading to the family room.
Hannah just remained silent, her heart pounding seeing Valerie returning to her while taking out a shoe from the paper bag.
’he gave a gift to Valerie... How could it be? He didn’t even ask when my birthday was, never treated me to food or bought something for me.’ she said to herself, enveloped by jealousy and wanting justice. ’He has to explain to me later.’
"I can’t refuse this," Valerie said while sitting back down, and placing the shoe on the table. "I think this is expensive... I don’t deserve to receive this because I’ve been mean to him," she continued.
"If so, then don’t accept it," replied Hannah curtly, returning to eating and refusing to look at Valerie.
"If I don’t accept it, it will disappoint him..."
"And if you keep accepting what he gives, and respond to him, then he will put hope back on you. And maybe he will become Damian’s target again," explained Hannah with her frustrated gaze, as if unable to hide her jealousy. "If you don’t like him.. then don’t let him get close," she continued.
Valerie fell silent, looking at the shoe. "I thought we could be friends like before."
"You can’t, nothing can be like before... Everything is messed up now..." Hannah quickly finished her chicken nuggets and then got up. "You have to remember, it’s not just Samuel who has become a victim of Damian’s jealousy, but also Tristan... You have to be wise in handling this..."
Valerie fell silent.
"If you know Damian finds it difficult to control his emotions, then never play with fire. Never do something he doesn’t like if you truly intend to go back to him!" Hannah exclaimed angrily, looking at Valerie who pretended to be innocent, making it evident that she was restraining herself from immediately calling Samuel.
Valerie glanced at Hannah leaving abruptly, then noticed the dirty dishes on the table. "What’s wrong with me... Why does she seem so upset with my response? Even she doesn’t usually leave dirty dishes on the table?" She wondered, quickly standing up and taking the dirty dishes to wash them in the sink.
...
Arriving in her room, Hannah immediately contacted Samuel while lying on the bed.
"Hello," greeted Samuel, his voice sounding flat.
"Where are you?" Hannah asked.
"I’m at the office, I just finished a meeting, and I might represent my boss to meet a client."
"Oh..." Hannah suddenly hesitated to ask about Valerie’s explanation.
"What’s up? Did you come to my apartment or..."
"No, I didn’t come to your apartment, I’m still here at Valerie’s house," explained Hannah, shifting position but staring loudly at the room’s ceiling. "Did you come here this morning?" She asked cautiously.
"Yes... I came before going to the office. You know I always pass through that area," explained Samuel, sounding relaxed. "Did she tell you?"
"Um... Yes... She said you came and gave a gift, but it seems to make her feel that you still expect her... Now she feels uncomfortable... It seems she doesn’t like it every time you come close to her," Hannah said as if leading Samuel to be disappointed in Valerie.
"Hmm... I just came to give a gift."
"You remembered her birthday," said Hannah then bit her lower lip. "You still care about her, don’t you?"
"Of course, I remembered her birthday because I’m not senile... And I just gave her a pair of shoes."
"Yes, that means you care about her... You remembered her birthday even though you’re busy... you could make time to find a gift for her... But you don’t even care when my birthday is and..." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
"Hannah..." Samuel cut off Hannah’s sentence. "Why are you bringing this up? Why are you making an issue out of her birthday? Are you feeling jealous now?" He wondered with a slightly firm tone.
Hannah fell silent, her eyes becoming teary.
"I remembered her birthday because, for the past 2 years, I’ve always celebrated her birthday... There’s even still an alarm for her birthday on my phone. And as for not knowing your birthday... I didn’t ask when your birthday is... It’s normal because we’re just starting out. You don’t need to be jealous about this... I’m yours... I won’t chase her again!" Samuel explained, sounding annoyed, and the phone call abruptly ended.
Hannah just remained silent, then looked at her phone displaying Samuel’s contact number, which she labeled "Honey".
’He said he’s mine and he won’t chase Valerie again, but he shouldn’t be angry,’ she thought sadly.
