Chapter 103: Chapter 103: Vacation

Before leaving the private resort where the meeting with the operatives had taken place, Tyler pulled David aside and told him to give them the information they need.

They already expressed their intentions to start working immediately but first, they have to be familiar with everything related to their new employer. Or at least, the things that Tyler wants them to know.

David nodded slowly, already mentally organizing the files he’d pass along. "Understood. And the group split?"

Tyler gave a short nod. "Four divisions. One for my mom, one for Devin, one for you, and one for me."

David’s eyes narrowed slightly. "You sure about putting a team on me?"

"You’re just as exposed as I am. Especially after that world tour. If anyone decides to start connecting dots, you’re the brightest one they’ll see. Remember what they said, they investigated you and found out everything. Them already being aware means that the world’s intelligence agencies are also aware too. We can’t afford gaps."

David didn’t argue. Tyler had a point. The spotlight might not be on him now, but eventually, it would shift. He’d been visible enough to be tracked, and in their world, visibility was risk.

"And the teams for your mom and Devin?" David asked.

Tyler paused before answering. "They won’t know about it yet. Not until we’re back home. I’ll introduce the teams personally when the time comes."

David gave a short nod. "Got it. And while we’re here?"

"I want all of us to enjoy the vacation," Tyler said simply. "Take care of them and also enjoy it too."

With the instructions given, Tyler left the beachside property and entered the waiting luxury SUV.

The drive to the family villa took less than fifteen minutes, weaving through the coastal roads of Barbados. Palm trees framed the horizon, and the setting sun cast warm amber light across the waters, turning everything golden.

As the SUV pulled into the stone-paved driveway of the villa, the scent of spices drifted out onto the porch. It was rich, familiar, and instantly grounding.

Inside, Helena was just finishing up in the kitchen, a cotton apron tied around her waist, humming a tune Tyler recognized from childhood.

The entire place smelled like garlic butter, tomatoes, and simmering herbs. Freshly baked bread sat cooling on the counter beside a bowl of grilled vegetables and a large, bubbling pot of stew.

Tyler stepped in, smiling as the scent hit him like a warm hug.

"You cooked," he said, his voice breaking the silence.

Helena turned around, her face lighting up with a smile. "Of course I did. You’re just in time."

Devin poked his head around the corner, eyes lighting up as he saw Tyler.

"You’re back! Took you long enough. We almost started without you," he grinned.

Tyler chuckled. "Glad I made it."

He dropped his bag beside the couch and joined them at the dining table. The dishes were simple, homey, and perfect. Steamed rice, pan-fried plantains, roasted chicken, and the spicy tomato-based stew.

The three of them sat down to eat.

Dinner was warm and easy, filled with quiet joy and gentle teasing. Devin made jokes between mouthfuls, while Helena occasionally scolded him for talking with his mouth full—then laughed anyway.

Every so often, Helena would glance at him, eyes thoughtful but content. She could tell something had changed in her son—not just the way he looked, or how tired he sometimes appeared—but something deeper. But she didn’t ask. She feels that he would tell her himself whenever he’s ready to.

After the meal, they remained at the table for a while, sipping juice and picking at the leftovers. Tyler felt a warmth in his chest and it wasn’t just from the food—it was from the silence, the safety, the simple normalcy of it all.

Eventually, Helena stood and began clearing the plates, shooing both boys away from the table.

"Go rest," she said. "I’ll handle this."

"No way," Tyler said, already getting up. "Let me help."

Devin groaned. "Fine, but I’m drying."

Together, they cleaned the kitchen with the kind of quiet teamwork that only a family could manage.

No one told the other what to do. They just moved, passed plates, wiped counters, and loaded the dishwasher.

The resort had assigned a chief and maid to them but Helena had refused, saying that she wants to take care of her kids herself.

After everything was cleaned and the kitchen light turned off, they moved to the wide patio behind the villa.

The ocean was just a short walk away, the waves rolling in steady rhythm under the moonlight. The air was warm, laced with salt and a touch of citrus from the lemon trees planted nearby.

Helena settled into a lounge chair, a light shawl draped over her shoulders. Devin kicked off his sandals and sat cross-legged on a beanbag.

Tyler leaned against the railing, looking out at the sea.

"We’re really doing this, huh?" he asked, voice low.

Helena smiled, her eyes closed. "We are. And you’re not allowed to think about work while we’re here."

"I’ll try."

"No try. Just do," she said, and he laughed quietly.

The rest of the evening passed in calm conversation. They talked about nothing and everything—funny moments from Devin’s school, a movie Helena had watched recently, and Tyler’s vague comments about how "things are going well" in Gumua.

When the night deepened and the stars came out, they finally headed inside.

Devin was the first to crash, retreating to his room with a yawn so wide it made Helena laugh.

"I’ll be up early," he mumbled, already halfway down the hall.

Tyler walked his mother to her room. She paused at the door.

"You really okay?" she asked quietly.

He hesitated, then nodded. "Yeah."

She nodded back, leaned in, and kissed his forehead. "Sleep well, baby."

Tyler returned to his room, changed into sleepwear, and stretched out on the soft, king-sized bed. The linen was crisp, the pillow cold against his cheek.

He grabbed his phone and opened the GlassChannel app. He saw that there was no message from David or Freya.

He had told Freya to put off the daily progress report while he’s on vacation. As long as nothing major comes up, she should just keep monitoring as always.

He intends to spend two weeks here with his family and he’s going enjoy every bit of it with them.
