Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse-Chapter 109: Training Together
Chapter 109: Chapter 109: Training Together
Using the same motorbikes as before, Lu Zhen and Leng Pan headed straight to the old subway.
Even though it was called an old subway, it wasn’t that old. It’s just that with the innovation and development of technology, a more modernized subway had been built, thus leading to the decommissioning of the older one.
If taken to some third world countries, this subway would be hailed as a classy one. Therefore, there were still maintenance staff in the vicinity who were affected by the meteor shower.
Fortunately, the number of employees here wasn’t high, thus, the number of zombies was also low.
With the loud noise of the motorcycles’ engines travelling through long distances, it attracted a large horde of zombies, even those hiding in the nearby buildings came out to chase after them.
Fortunately, they had not evolved to the point of catching up with speeding locomotives. Otherwise, Lu Zhen and his wife would have a hard time getting to their destination, having to fight all the way to the subway station.
However, just because they didn’t encounter any zombies worth their efforts or waste of time on the way, didn’t mean that they wouldn’t encounter any at all.
As they took the less traveled road over the last three years since the new subway station was launched, they could hear the grunting of zombies from afar.
This wasn’t their first confrontation with zombies, but it was the first time they would be fighting together.
Last time they split up to look for a vehicle that could help them transport the meteorite near the city center to save time and protect Leng Pan.
However, she now wanted to fight side-by-side with her husband. Leng Pan was thinking that if her husband suggested splitting up later then she wouldn’t agree no matter what.
What she was worried about, however, would never happen because Lu Zhen was even more resistant to that thought.
He still had a vivid picture of the scene he saw when he heard the zombie’s scream last time and ran over to check. Those cold and dark claws only a centimeter away from Leng Pan’s heart still shook him when he remembered.
He had vowed never to split up again and he meant it. Why should he fight alone when his wife could also fight and was so capable?
They complement each other, so there was no need to make things hard for themselves.
As the motorcycles came to a stop in the middle of the road about half a mile away from the entrance of the subway station, the two surveyed their surroundings with solemn expressions.
With superpowers, their senses had heightened and they had realized that when their abilities improve, everything else does the same.
The advantage of having such heightened senses was being able to know when danger was close by.
At the moment, even though there were zombies in every corner of the subway ahead, they did feel the danger sense increase. This indicated that there were only low-level zombies in this place.
At least, a zombie like the one that attacked Leng Pan in the car dealership shop wasn’t in the surrounding area.
This was a good sign as they were still learning how to fight with these man-eating creatures. Nonetheless, their instincts kicked in quickly.
Watching zombies come running with stiff limbs and crooked necks towards them from all directions, Leng Pan put the motorcycles into the space before taking on a fighting stance.
Soon, a fight broke through between the two humans and dozens of zombies coming towards them in waves.
Leng Pan formed a large sword that could sweep zombies with every swing and keep a two meters distance between two tow sides.
This was to prevent the zombies from getting close enough to scratch them. Lu Zhen was practicing the precision of his fire needles and needed cover to do that.
That was why Leng Pan took on close range attacks while Lu Zhen did long range ones.
With every swing of her water sword, zombies’ heads and limbs fell. The ones that didn’t die immediately screamed with every touch of the sword.
It was as if they could experience pain. Leng Pan had seen this more than once already and had come to realize that her water might have a purifying ability against the zombie virus.
The process also seemed to be very painful for the zombies. Unfortunately, Leng Pan knew that this purification could not bring back the spirit of the people who turned into zombies because they were already dead.
She was hoping that her water purification ability could save people who were yet to completely turn into mindless creatures.
However, she also understood that this ability was too heaven-defying and could not be exposed to the public.
If people with ulterior motives found out, then getting kidnapped to be used as a tool to save others would be going easy on her. Others might want to experiment on her to find out her secret and take it for themselves.
Therefore, no matter how much she wanted to save others, she couldn’t let outsiders find out about what her water could do.
As these thoughts ran through her mind, Leng Pan didn’t stop swinging her arm holding the water sword. She began to calm her mind and transition her weapon.
When the zombies attacked, she had formed a water sword out of habit and started fighting. However, she had forgotten that she could control the water element. Especially, after she advanced the previous night, her affinity with the water element had skyrocketed.
Now, even the slightest moisture in the air could not escape her. She tried to retract the water forming the sword back into her body while at the same time forming another sword, but found it difficult.
She still couldn’t multitask when it came to using her superpowers even though she had advanced to the first level.
When she saw a zombie sneak an attack on Lu Zhen who was concentrating on controlling the fire needles, she instinctively stopped her transition and formed a water mist barrier with the water in her body.
Because of this instinctive reaction, she watched as the zombie’s rotten flesh melted and turned to nothing. Because the mist covered the zombie from head to toe, even the brain turned to nothing under its purification.
This was not the result Leng Pan had expected. Even though she had suspected that the water had a purification ability, she had not expected it to completely eliminate everything infected with the virus.
She wondered if using such an ability on someone who had not completely turned would just kill the virus or erase the entire person.
This was something that needed experimenting. However, for the moment, she didn’t have the luxury to think about other things.
The melting of the zombie sneaking an attack on Lu Zhen didn’t hinder the others from following suit. They were creatures who couldn’t think and only followed instinct, smell, and hearing.
At the moment, the zombies could not only hear the loud noise of them fighting, they could also smell the abundant vitality running through their bodies and especially the pulsing of the power core in them.
As ability users, they had a special attraction to zombies whose instinct was to devour such power sources to get stronger.
Therefore, killing the zombies at the front did not deter those at the back who kept pushing and trying to tear a piece of their flesh to eat.
While Leng Pan trained her usage of water ability and protecting Lu Zhen, Lu Zhen had gained significant control over his use of fire needles.
Moreover, he no longer wasted too much energy when creating them. A small amount of energy was enough to create a thin and sharp fire needle that could easily penetrate the bone.
He was at ease fighting with Leng Pan mostly because of her water mist. He knew that if they were in danger, she only needed to turn the water into mist and kill any zombies near them.
Hence, he had no qualms when training without worrying about their safety. At first, his formation of the fire needles had been difficult. He would either form ones they were too thick, thus wasting energy, or too small that they couldn’t go far.
But as he practiced more and more, his precision increased and he didn’t even need to consciously think of the shape or size. As soon as he wanted a fire needle, one would appear depending on his requirements.
Now, he was sending ten fire needles at the same time towards another wave of approaching zombies. Out of ten, eight found their target and penetrated the center of their foreheads.
With a loud ’thud, thud, thud,...’ the eight zombies collapsed to the ground and stopped moving.
Lu Zhen was overjoyed to see such progress, but he didn’t get carried away and continued with his attacks.
With their combined efforts, soon all the zombies coming their way dwindled and eventually stopped.
