Chapter 138: Chapter 138: Initiation Ceremony

In an apartment South of the city, a group of eight people sat together in a room that resembled both a study and a conference room.

They were discussing something that ordinary people would probably not understand. However, it was obvious that the topic was important to all of them.

One man asked no one in particular, "Have you located her?"

The rest kept quiet for a while before a young woman who seemed to be only in her early twenties replied.

"Her life signature has lit up, but we can’t determine her exact location. We are also afraid of being too obvious and aggressive in our search and end up alerting the enemy."

"What about her protector? Is he alive as well or is she alone?" The man asked another equally confusing question.

"He is with her. When her life signature lit up, his flashed as well. They should be together." The girl who answered the earlier question replied again.

"Do you think they have awakened?" Another young man dressed like a superstar even in the apocalyptic world asked a question that seemed to be in everyone’s minds but no one dared to ask.

There was a loud silence in the room that lasted a full two minutes before the man, who could be assumed to be the leader, spoke again.

"Whether they have awakened or not is not important. The most important thing is that they are both alive. However, considering that they have triggered the life signatures, they must have awakened, even if it is subconsciously.

We need to find them before those traitors do.

They might not have their memories yet and if the enemy finds them first, they might either eliminate them or find a way to turn them. We can’t let that happen, so widen the search.

We’ve been in this city for so long and haven’t found a trace of her, is it possible that she isn’t here to begin with?" The leader asked again.

He felt frustrated due to the lack of results and his anxiety was climbing just thinking about the enemy getting to them earlier than them.

"No, they are definitely in this city. When the life signatures lit up, they were within the city and that wasn’t too long ago. It was already after the apocalypse had started, so they couldn’t have moved yet.

We should just consider widening the search.

Going by their character, even if they have changed their body, the core was still the same. Therefore, there is no way they would be sitting at home and hiding in fear of these mindless creatures roaming the streets.

They should be going out to cause havoc. Hence, let’s try to find them in places that have signs of activities. Especially in places with significant damage and commotion." Another member of the group suggested.

"That’s a good idea, we can also take this time to investigate what the enemy knows and how far their information goes." Another one said.

"Okay, let’s follow your plan then. I hope we can locate them soon. Or at least, they can stumble upon something that could help us find them." The leader sighed when he said that. He had never seen such troublesome people in his two lifetimes.

"Oh! By the way, what is the trigger up to? Is she still alive or did something happen?" The leader posed another question but everyone could tell that he was just asking half-heartedly.

He probably didn’t have much desire to know the answer. Moreover, the answer wasn’t exactly important as they already knew that the person they were looking for was already fine.

"Probably still alive, but from the data obtained, it seemed the trigger completed her mission almost a month ago." Another young man dressed in a suit replied.

"Okay, let’s move out and start our search before some unexpected disaster happens soon." The leader ordered and the others replied in unison.

"Yes."

The next morning Leng Pan and her family woke up earlier than usual. Since it was the first time they were going out together, their nerves were charged and anxiety was high.

However, by the time they had breakfast they had already calmed down.

"Why don’t we use two different cars today? Lu Zhen could drive one and I will drive another. Since Mom, uncle, and aunt are still not used to the changed environment outside, they can observe and understand what to do in different situations.

We also need to bring back more materials and other things, so it’s better to use a spacious car like the truck we used yesterday to transport them." Leng Pan suggested when the family was about to leave and head out.

"Panpan has a point. We don’t know how things have changed out there so we can only follow your lead. Moreover, with zombies roaming around, we have no idea how to react in case they attack while driving.

So, it’s better to have someone with experience lead the way and show us the ropes. Even though we won’t lock ourselves up in the house in the future, learning first doesn’t hurt." Li Yunjia also agreed with her daughter-in-law’s suggestion and seconded it immediately.

"Okay then. How about I ride a motorcycle in front to scout the way. Panpan can drive one car and Lu Tao can drive the truck. It will be safer that way." Lu Zhen thought it was better to be the vanguard for his wife and family.

However, his suggestion was immediately vetoed by his wife and he had no choice but to drive the truck while his wife drove the car that had been used by their mother when she moved into the apartment.

Lu Zhen drove at the back while Leng Pan’s car was at the front. The women were in one car and the men in another.

Just like what Lu Tao had experienced the previous day, the other family members also underwent their special initiation.

When Leng Pan thought of that word, she laughed out loud. It felt as if they were joining a cult that was formed to ensure the survival of humanity.
