Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse-Chapter 141: The Child Zombie
Chapter 141: Chapter 141: The Child Zombie
The first arrow missed and only brushed the arm of the zombie. It didn’t even do much damage except for scraping some flesh, which wasn’t a big deal since the flesh was rotten and falling anyways.
It didn’t even alert the zombie of loaming danger and it kept moving forward following the smell of living humans.
Other zombies were the same and the group was soon fighting with everything they had to kill as many zombies as possible and not get hurt or scratched themselves.
Leng Pan and Lu Zhen were practicing while observing the others in case they needed their help.
Leng Pan nocked her second arrow after missing the target with the first one and took aim again. She targeted a different zombie, this time only five meters away and fired.
The arrow shot out with a speed that no human could compete with and before anyone could blink, it embedded itself at the throat of the zombie.
Even though it was a good shot, for a human being, it would have counted as fatal, but for zombies, it had no effect whatsoever.
Thus, she nocked the third arrow and aimed at the same zombie again. Using the experience of the last two arrows, this time she shot it between its brows.
As the arrow carried a lot of strength from its fast traveling speed, it pierced through the skull, destroyed the brain, and went through the back of the head.
The zombie fell to the ground with a thud.
Just as she was about to nock another arrow and shoot another zombie, Leng Pan noticed a zombie of a child about seven years old standing a distance of about thirty meters away from where they were facing them.
It was a boy and if Leng Pan wasn’t sure that zombies couldn’t see, she would have thought that the small zombie was observing them.
However, when she thought about the situations she had read in apocalypse novels about younger zombies stronger than adult ones and also crueler, she didn’t dare to take a gamble.
"Mom, aunt, uncle, and Tao, you guys get back in the cars first. Ah Zhen and I need to handle something first." Leng Pan immediately gave these strange instructions.
It felt strange because they had only been fighting for less than ten minutes and the new fighters were just getting used to their weapons.
In fact, they had only killed one or two zombies as Lu Zhen had dealt with most of the zombies that came close.
However, they didn’t ask any questions and retreated slowly as they fought.
Once inside, Leng Pan thickened the mist barrier around the two vehicles.
Nevertheless, the people inside could still see everything going on outside. After all, the mist was made of clean water and was transparent.
Lu Zhen moved closer to his wife while cutting down zombies and stood back-to-back with her.
"What’s wrong, Baby?" Lu Zhen asked while still fighting.
Leng Pan was still using the crossbow to kill zombies and the distance increased with every arrow shot.
She couldn’t believe that her accuracy had increased from missing to hitting the target every time in only a few minutes.
But for some reason she felt a strong sense of Dèjá vu. It felt as if this wasn’t the first time she had used a crossbow to hunt.
She had no time to keep thinking about this mystery as she noticed the little zombie taking small steps towards them.
"Six o’clock, a child zombie is approaching.
I have a feeling that it’s not the same as the other zombies and might not be easy to deal with.
It had been standing at the same spot for a while without moving while looking this way. It felt as if it was observing us and strategizing.
That’s why I asked Mom and the others to go back into the car." Leng Pan told her husband what she had observed while shooting an arrow aimed straight at the small zombie.
It had moved forward and was only about twenty meters away, so the aim wouldn’t be off.
Lu Zhen had also used his fire ability to cover his back to prevent a sneak attack then turned to face the same side as his wife.
He was just in time to see the small zombie sidestep the arrow that was aimed at its head with ease.
"Indeed, not simple at all. It feels as if it can see. Aren’t zombies supposed to be completely blind? Or are the hearing senses of this zombie too advanced?" Lu Zhen wondered out loud when he saw the scene of the zombie evading the arrow.
"Maybe its senses are heightened. Or maybe there are zombies that can retain their human ability to see. I don’t know, but this is obviously not a good sign." Leng Pan replied as she shot another arrow at the small zombie.
The zombie did the same thing as before and evaded the arrow.
The next second Leng Pan thanked her lucky stars that she had thought of asking her family to go back into the car.
The boy raised his hands and Lu Zhen and Leng Pan found themselves at the center of a tornado. What made the matter dangerous for anyone without training or experience or without a defense mechanism was the fact that this wasn’t a sand or soil tornado.
It was a wind blades tornado. Wind blades were encircling the two and moving at such a fast speed that it was definitely not possible to catch them.
Moreover, the wind blades appeared out of nowhere and in seconds, Lu Zhen had several bleeding wounds on his chest and arms while Leng Pan had a cut on her outstretched arm that was holding the crossbow.
Lu Zhen had used his fire ability to only cover his back to prevent sneak attacks but his front was exposed. That was why when the boy launched a sneak attack with the wind blades, he was completely unprepared and got hurt.
Leng Pan’s hand was hurt because she had stretched it out of the barrier she had created.
However, when she saw how hurt her husband was, Leng Pan felt a type of anger that couldn’t be associated with just a little episode.
It felt as if she had gone through the same thing before, but once again, she couldn’t tell why she felt that way.
