Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse-Chapter 42: The Apocalypse Arrives
Chapter 42: Chapter 42: The Apocalypse Arrives
He pretended not to hear and kept eating. Leng Pan, knowing that the young man was embarrassed, let him be and started to eat the food that miraculously appeared in her bowl.
While she was teasing her brother-in-law, Lu Zhen had filled her bowl to the brim with her favorite foods. She also picked some of the foods he liked with her chopsticks and placed them in his bowl.
"Eat more." She said as she looked up at Lu Zhen sitting next to her and smiled at him.
Lu Zhen was mesmerized by that smile and almost forgot to eat.
The others watching this scene felt happy for the young couple. Especially for Lu Zhen who had waited for so many years for Leng Pan to finally look at him.
The dinner didn’t take long, only fifteen minutes before they moved to the living room to chat over tea.
Leng Pan was starting to get anxious as the minutes moved towards seven o’clock. After seven days of nonstop shopping, she finally stopped and the inevitable was about to happen.
Lu Zhen, feeling the shift in her emotions, took her hand in his and squeezed her a little to reassure her. It was as if he was telling her that even if the sky fell, he would protect her.
She turned to look at him, and the moment she saw the firm light in his eyes, she instantly felt safe. Yes, this man could even give his life to protect her, why should she be anxious?
She should just relax and wait for what would happen to happen. All she could do now was hope that she awakens her superpower immediately like in the book and be able to protect him too and not become his burden.
Their actions were subtle and no one else noticed them. The others were still talking about planning a honeymoon trip for the newlyweds when suddenly they felt the building shake.
It felt as if an earthquake had occurred. Leng Pan turned her head to look at the clock on the wall and it was indeed, seven o’clock sharp.
The apocalypse had begun, but things were different from what she had read in the book. The book said that the apocalypse started with torrential rains and typhoons, but obviously, what was happening was neither.
She stood up and headed towards the window to see what was happening outside.
Lu Zhen followed her and both stood at the window on the balcony facing the east side of the city. They saw what looked like meteorites falling while burning.
That was what was causing the earthquake.
"It’s different from the last time." Leng Pan said.
"Maybe a butterfly effect." Lu Zhen replied.
"Mmm. I hope the apartment holds then." Leng Pan said as she watched houses in the distance get flattened by burning meteorites.
She could imagine how many people would die tonight from getting smashed or burned to death by these falling meteorites.
Lu Tao and the elders had also moved to the window to observe what was happening and they were scared out of their wits by what they saw.
It was a diverstation they had never imagined before. Screams could be heard from every corner of the city whether meteorites had fallen there or not.
People everywhere were panicking and running around looking for places to hide.
Those who had seen the post Leng Pan had posted and ignored it were in so much regret that they could bash their heads in.
Even though they didn’t know if the supplies would survive in this chaos, having them would give them a sense of security if their houses were not affected by the falling rocks.
Li Yunjia turned around to look at her eldest son and daughter-in-law and sighed. So, this was why they couldn’t be found home a day after they got married?
Was this also the reason they emphasized about stocking on food and filling water in every space that could hold water?
But, how did they know what would happen? She had many questions, but she knew that some things were better left unsaid.
"Is this a meteor shower?" Lu Tao asked in astonishment.
"No, this is a disaster." Leng Pan replied.
How could something that is taking millions of lives be associated with something as beautiful as a meteor shower?
This was clearly a nightmare.
"Many people will lose their lives tonight. How come something so significant wasn’t announced by the government? The astronomy department couldn’t have missed so many meteorites falling through space." Uncle Li commented.
"We can never know. Maybe they were not visible in the satellites and caught them off guard.
It is going to be difficult for the country to recover from this disaster." Li Yunjia replied with a somber expression as she looked into the distance.
Leng Pan wanted to tell them that there was no recovery, things would only get worse, but she stopped herself. No need to cause alarm at the moment.
Lu Tao took his phone out of his pocket to see what was happening on the internet and after checking global news for two minutes and finding out that the meteorites were falling in every corner of the world, the screen stopped working and kept loading without any results showing.
"The meteorites are falling all over the world, not just in our country. Also, it seems that they have affected the signal satellites as the internet has stopped working." Lu Tao said as he locked his phone and returned it to his pocket.
"All over the world? What kind of disaster is happening, or is this the legendary end of the world?" Aunt Li asked with a panicked voice.
The fact that the meteorites were falling everywhere was a clear sign that something was about to change. And that change was probably not good.
Everyone could only pray that these falling rocks wouldn’t fall on their house.
"Lucky for us this happened while our family was together having dinner. Otherwise, we would have to worry about whether the other was okay in this situation and without communication." Uncle Li said with relief as he thought of those stuck in offices or traveling.
Li Yunjia looked at her son and daughter-in-law and thought that this dinner was not a coincidence.
