Rise of the Harem King-Chapter 228: Surprise attack
Everyone in Enki worked day and night to prepare the defenses for the great invasion that would occur when the seal was broken. So when the seal finally broke, the wave of monsters they expected came, but besides that, Luna and Alexia were preparing their defenses, when…
Boom! An explosion shattered their concentration. Without hesitation, Alexia moved sharply, shielding Luna with her body. Her eyes darted toward the source of the blast; it was a masked being, whose long robe concealed its body. From its shadow, two demons emerged.
"Fuck, I wasn't expecting such a direct attack…" Alexia murmured, getting ready to defend herself and Luna.
"Are you okay?" Luna asked, her face etched with concern.
Alexia gave a small, dismissive nod. "Of course. Don't worry, I'm strong."
In the next instant, she rose to her feet, every muscle tensing as she prepared for battle. She assumed the enemy had discovered the magical weapons they had hidden there. But to her surprise, the demons didn't pay her or the equipment any attention; they rushed straight toward Luna.
What… she's their target? Alexia's eyes widened.
The first demon raised its claw, but Alexia was faster. Her blade flashed in a clean arc using <Moon Slash>, cutting straight through its chest with a spray of black ichor. The creature let out a distorted scream before collapsing to the ground.
The second demon lunged past her, claws poised to rip into Luna. Alexia twisted her body, slamming her shoulder into it and driving her sword upward in a brutal thrust. The steel bit deep, stopping the monster inches away from Luna.
"You'll have to go through me first," Alexia snarled, forcing the demon back with a surge of strength.
"Okay, you are stronger than I expected, human," the being said, a smile forming on his concealed face.
This guy is a problem… Alexia thought, sensing he was an extremely powerful opponent.
To make things worse, it would be hard to fight while protecting Luna. Looking around, she quickly grabbed a mana gun.
"Use it as a last resort!" she shouted, tossing the gun to Luna. She might not be a sharpshooter, but at close range, it could save her life.
Drawing her own blade, Alexia braced herself. In response, the cloaked being chose not to fight directly. Instead, he summoned another demon, a big and bulky one this time.
With a roar, the large demon lunged forward, swinging a massive sword with brutal force.
Clang! Their blades collided, sparks scattering like angry fireflies. Alexia countered with relentless strikes, refusing to give her enemy even a second to recover.
However, a sharp kick caught Alexia off guard, sending her skidding across the floor. She rolled to her feet, just in time to see a second demon weaving a spell.
"Not on my watch," Alexia growled, charging, but she was too late.
Boom! The spell exploded, a blast of icy wind slamming into her. She raised her sword in defense, but the intense cold began to freeze her to the bone, and she feared for Luna's safety.
"Fuck!" She cut through the cold with <Air Magic> and her <Air Blade>.
She destroyed the enemy's <Ice Storm>, but the bulky demon was already approaching, roaring like a beast. Alexia activated <Free Spirit>, allowing the demon's massive sword to pass harmlessly through her body. Seizing its moment of surprise, she swung her sword in a perfect arc, cutting its head off with a <Moon Slash>.
However, an <Avalanche> followed, a surge of frigid magic crashing toward her. In desperation, Alexia summoned a wave of wind, using all her power to block the attack.
She couldn't allow the demon mage to keep casting powerful attacks like that, especially since some of them could hit Luna. So Alexia surged forward in a blur, channeling the full power of her transformation as she moved like a dancer through the air.
The demon tried to stumble back, but he wasn't fast enough. With one swift strike, Alexia sliced off his arm; her follow-up slash cut deep into his thigh.
"Fuck you, bastard!" she roared, a guttural cry that shook with fury as she pressed the attack.
Her blade found its mark, plunging into the demon's heart before he could summon another spell. His body convulsed, then went still. Alexia exhaled softly, relief washing over her.
But that relief lasted only a moment.
A sudden chill spread across her shoulder, the unmistakable touch of something cold. She turned sharply, but the cloaked figure she had glimpsed was already gone. In the next instant, a crushing fist slammed into her stomach, knocking the air from her lungs. Alexia's eyes widened as her true opponent stood before her.
"I shall face you myself, human," the cloaked being declared, his voice deep and resonant. "My name is Agramon. Before I kill you, tell me yours."
With those words, his aura exploded outward, brown and seething, a raw surge of power that spread through the battlefield and far beyond. Everyone in Enki would feel it.
And Agramon knew it. In fact, he wanted this. Facing the battle under a ticking clock made the challenge all the more amusing.
However, there was one woman who could ruin his game, one who should have been able to arrive in an instant: Amelia. She felt the disturbance immediately, but no matter how hard she tried, her teleportation magic failed. Something powerful was blocking her. With no other option, she broke into a sprint, forcing her legs to carry her as fast as possible.
Davi tried to use her ability as well, but when it failed for him too, he clenched his jaw. There was no choice; he had to run.
Back on the battlefield, Alexia stood her ground.
"My name is Alexia!" she shouted, launching herself forward with reckless courage. "You will not kill me! I will defeat you and protect my friend!"
"No, you won't," Agramon sneered, his mocking tone cutting sharper than a blade.
The two clashed. Alexia struck again and again, her blade flashing with desperation, but Agramon toyed with her, dodging effortlessly and striking back with brutal precision. One heavy blow sent her crashing to the ground, coughing blood. Another strike nearly shattered her guard. Within moments, she was half-dead, her battered body barely able to move as she dragged herself toward Luna.
"Alexia!" Luna cried, firing the mana gun at Agramon.
But it was useless. The cloaked demon absorbed the attack without flinching. With a cruel smirk, he reached out and seized Luna by the throat.
"You're mine."
Alexia's body screamed in pain, yet somehow she forced herself back to her feet. Staggering forward, she raised her sword one last time.
Agramon's eyes narrowed. "Persistent insect."
He unleashed a devastating strike, an attack that would have ended Alexia's life instantly. But before it connected, a blur cut across the battlefield.
Davi used <Shild> to defend Alexia.
"Not today!" Davi's voice roared, standing between Alexia and the enemy.
Agramon snarled, his grin fading for the first time. Davi stepped forward, ready to fight, but as suddenly as she had appeared, the demon vanished into the shadows, taking Luna with him.
The battlefield fell silent, leaving only the sound of Alexia's ragged breaths…
