Chapter 387: Enex Auction

With an agreement made, Ezra and Asadon discussed a few more details before ending the call.

While made it so that he didn’t need a clan for support, the connections provided were irreplaceable.

All clans were connected to other clans in various ways, forming an indispensable network that allowed for all sorts of exchanges and opportunities that wasn’t be available for non-clansmen.

It would take forever for him to try to gain such connections by himself.

Moreover, the higher one’s position in a clan, the more access to this network and subsequently, more access to other opportunities.

By securing the position of an Elder, Ezra basically got himself the highest position in the clan in one go.

With the clan leader providing him updates of daily affairs, Ezra intended to go to the clan once there was news of a special event.

Realm expedition, astral beast attack or opportunities of this sort and claim a share of the spoils for his cultivation.

In this way, he would enjoy the benefits while keeping away from any of the responsibilities.

In the first place, his relationship with the clan was a transactional one, with benefits being exchanged, so there was no need to consider loyalty and honesty.

While this time, he was (un)lucky enough to have an astral beast attack his location, the chances of such a thing happening a second time was infinitely close to zero.

So joining a clan was the next best option.

As for the inevitable circumstances that might occur because of this, Ezra was unbothered.

The strength he was gathering was meant to solve such problems.

Ezra thought to head to the clan base at this moment to use their cultivation rooms without pay, but stopped himself.

Introducing himself as an Elder at rank four would draw unnecessary attention. He intended to reach rank six at the very least, or nascent rank before publicly introducing himself.

Additionally, only then would then be eligible to enter the secret realm the council recommended.

As such, he intended to increase his cultivation to rank six through traditional methods since it would take too long to gather enough additional subordinates amongst those of incipient rank to increase his cultivation.

He could potentially subordinate those close to his level-other Transcendents.

But which Transcendent would bow their head to a mere rank four like him?

None. At least not anybody with a backbone.

At this juncture, Ezra had another idea.

And that was to go bounty hunting for wanted criminals at Transcendent rank as a mercenary, make them into subordinates and then kill them.

It sounded plausible, but once put into practicality, Ezra decided to abandon the plan.

It would take much effort to find a single Transcendent rank criminal, even using .

After all, the universe, no, just this star cluster is sufficiently wide enough to provide innumerable hiding places for those who didn’t want to be found.

Moreover, there was no way to gauge the amount of Transcendents he would need to subordinate to ascend a rank.

Beyond this, you had the fact that there were also nascent rank wanted criminals on the loose.

If by any chance, Ezra was to run into such people, he wouldn’t be able guarantee his survival.

Rather doing things that may end up fruitless, Ezra decided to simply cultivate in the way of other higher beings.

With the addition of astral elixirs, surely it shouldn’t be too different from using , right?

Calculating the time it would take for the plan to progress where he would need to play his role, Ezra estimated a year or two at most.

Putting the existence of variables in mind, Ezra scheduled visits to Orion once every two months to check on their progress.

As for bringing Oranians into the outside world, Ezra put off such thoughts until later.

After all, with Frederick distributing the books he gave, alchemists and blacksmiths would have enough new theories and breakthroughs to keep them busy for a few years.

As for reaching rank five, Ezra scheduled six months, since Zydrax had said one’s cultivation speed reduced the higher their level.

With his soul stabilized, Ezra began cultivating once more.

On the other end of the call...

Asadon took a deep breathe.

"Father" Vera called. "Will you announce this to the rest of the Elders?"

"I will inform them that another has joined our ranks. Everything else must be kept secret" he replies decisively with a chilling tone. "Vera. No one must know of what occurred here"

"Yes sir" Vera nods with her head lowered. "But father. Don’t you find it suspicious?"

"I do" the father replies. "But I refuse to believe there’s a clan out there that will offer a top-tier astral elixir just to destroy our clan"

Then he looked at the astral elixir in his hands. "And if there is, then I guess I have no choice but to step into their trap"

"Tell me everything you know about that mercenary"

On cue, Vera dragged in Evanol to explain his encounter with Ezra.

Dazed and nervous, Evanol recounts the experience to the clan leader, wondering what exactly had happened for the clan leader to put on a serious expression.

Once done with his recount, Evanol was dismissed, but not without stern warnings to keep his shut.

"Powerful enough to kill an astral beast singlehandedly at rank two, with spatial manipulation abilities and uses a scythe. Hmm...he doesn’t sound like someone simple in any way yet I have never heard of such a person before"

"Couldn’t he be from another galactic cluster?" Vera inferred.

"That is also possible" Asadon nods before sighing. "It’s too far-fetched to think someone from another galaxy cluster came specifically to attack us"

"Couldn’t you have been called by one of the rival clans? Maybe the black dragon clan?"

"And they handed him a top-tier elixir? To give us?"

"...." the question had Vera speechless.

"All these speculation won’t get us anywhere, I’ll have to look into it later. For now, call the Alchemist, I need to confirm the elixir’s authenticity once more"

"Yes, Father" but she didn’t move. "What happens if the elixir is confirmed?"

"I intend to use it myself’ he replies. "It would give me a leap in cultivation"

"But Father, what do I get?" Vera asks.

"Don’t worry, I won’t forget your contributions, the next astral elixir will be yours. For now, go to the trading hall and take any three treasures"

"Thank you Father" Vera replies, lowering her head. "I will request for the Alchemist on my way"

Asadon simply nods.

With the astral elixirs effect yet to dissipate, Ezra’s cultivation speed was fast.

Yet, he couldn’t help but furrow his brows.

’Isn’t this too slow?’ he wondered. Though Zydrax mentioned that his cultivation speed would reduce, he hadn’t told him the specifics.

To Ezra whose cultivation had only risen in leaps and bounds from the moment he achieved Transcendence, his current cultivation speed felt far too slow.

Especially when noted that this was in addition to the effects of the top-tier astral elixir.

Even he expected a reduction when going from third rank to fourth, he’d anticipated that with a top-tier potion, it would still be much faster.

Confused, he calls Zydrax for an explanation.

’Is cultivating supposed to be this slow even with an astral elixir?’

[Hmm...from what I can see, it’s actually pretty fast]

’Are you serious?’

[Do you think I’m joking. Didn’t I tell you your cultivation speed would reduce the more you advanced]

’You did. But I didn’t expect it to be this slow’

[Well. Now you know]

’Is there another way to cultivate faster?’

[There isn’t]

’I see’

With his question answered, Ezra did not whine nor panic. He’d long past the age of doing such things.

Taking a breath to calm himself, Ezra began cultivating in earnest.

Whilst he was at the third rank, Ezra found the cultivation speed satisfactory, but the speed reduced by a third once he broke through.

If it was like this for the fourth rank, one could only imagine how slow it would be by the sixth.

When monitoring his cultivation speed closely, Ezra approximated he could still reach the fifth rank before the end of the year.

So things weren’t so bad.

Two weeks pass.

The end of March loomed closer, and with it, was the monthly auction scheduled for the last weekend of every month.

The Enex Auction. To be held at the most reputable trading house managed by the AlphaNova company-the Enex trading house.

Today was that day.

Dressed in his iconic white suit and monocle, Sidal disembarked from atop a private transport spaceship, ad entered the trading house through the entrance for staff.

Having made connections to the auction host beforehand, he had the top-tier astral elixir certified within a minute and paid the needed commission, which was discounted for AlphaNova personnel.

With that, Sidal took a seat in the VIP section, small rooms hosted above where the audience sat, and reserving a whole room for himself.

He’d rather avoid needless chatter during this occasion.

Having arrived early, it took a while for a crowd to form before the auction began.

Like always, a total of thirty items are sold, each ten more exotic than the last.

After the thirtieth item was sold, there was a sudden commotion as a new item was announced. Followed by apologies for such inconvenience.

The crowd chewed into them before going back into silence as another attendant came in carrying a small black box decorated with gold engravings depicting a dragon.

Placed on a stand, the attendant stands behind it.

"Honorable guests" the host c

alled "The reason for the delay has arrived"

"I give you" she says, opening the box. "A Top Tier Astral Elixir!"

"What?"

"What?"

The auction house turned chaotic in an instant.

*Waaaaa!*
