Rose Manor: Tycoon's Relentless Chase-Chapter 332 - 313: Waiting for the Right Moment to Take Revenge
Shen Jianian didn’t have the heart to watch the scene acted out by Tong Yan and her assistant. The scene she was about to shoot was critically important, and there couldn’t be any mistakes. She wouldn’t allow herself to be distracted by other things.
"Xiao Yu, what did you just say happened with Aunt Cheng?" Shen Jianian ignored the two people and looked at the fuming Xiao Yu.
Xiao Yu’s elbow still hurt, and she held back her temper with Tong Yan’s assistant, answering Shen Jianian’s question honestly: "Aunt Cheng just called saying she had a last-minute issue and had to go back, and might only come back the day after tomorrow."
"I see." Shen Jianian picked up the pipa, lowered her eyelids, and plucked the strings with her fair hand.
Tong Yan didn’t see the expected flustered look on Shen Jianian’s face, which made her uncomfortable. She exchanged a glance with her assistant and left the waterside pavilion.
There were no scenes of Tong Yan in this shoot. She came to the set under the guise of observing how veteran actors perform and to learn from them, but her true purpose was to keep an eye on Shen Jianian and find a chance to make a move.
Tong Yan’s assistant was doing this kind of thing for the first time. She was under Tong Yan’s orders, so she had no choice but to comply, yet once she finished, she felt terribly guilty. Her heart was about to leap out of her throat, and even after a while, her expression remained tense and uneasy.
"Sister Yan Yan." Once they reached a secluded corner, the little assistant spoke weakly, "Shen Jianian doesn’t seem to mind; doesn’t she have a backup?"
Tong Yan glanced at her askance: "No."
An hour later, Shen Jianian successfully finished filming the important pipa scene. Wang Kelun was very satisfied with her performance, and she finally felt the weight lifted off her shoulders.
There was another scene in the afternoon, so Shen Jianian went to change costumes and redo her makeup.
In the same location, the male actors had two more scenes to shoot and were currently filming.
The weather gradually grew hot, and the sunlight shimmered on the lake like floating golden fragments. Shen Jianian lifted the hem of her long-sleeved gown with one hand and walked along the lakeside. Under the verdant willow trees ahead, Tong Yan was admiring the scenery. Her lively brows and eyes were still full of joy, and anyone who didn’t know better would think she’d won the lottery.
But Shen Jianian understood that Tong Yan was happy because the evidence had been destroyed. With the phone gone, and no more recordings, it meant she was no longer under anyone’s control.
Not wanting any more off-screen interaction with Tong Yan, Shen Jianian took a detour to leave. Tong Yan turned her head and saw her, raised her eyebrows, and smiled, "Shen Jianian, don’t you have anything to say to me?"
Shen Jianian stopped but didn’t speak.
Tong Yan appraised her outfit, and the jealousy in her eyes was about to overflow. Being an actress, she understood too well. A character always dressed in black, with a braid and a long sword on her back, suddenly one day, switches to a pink ruqun, with a pretty bun and delicate makeup, holding a pipa, her eyes lowered as she plays. Her glances full of charm—how attractive that would be to the audience.
A brief yet stunning glimpse, that’s the feeling.
When the movie premieres, Shen Jianian could break out of obscurity, become an internet sensation, and receive endless acting offers. Wang Kelun’s movies always launch new actors into fame; some have benefitted from his films for ten, twenty years.
Imagining such a scenario, Tong Yan felt displeased. She didn’t want to see Shen Jianian’s meteoric rise.
"What do you want me to say?" Shen Jianian glanced at her, released the skirt, and a faint smile appeared on her face, "Should I keep watching you and your assistant act?"
Tong Yan’s assistant was only a few steps away. Hearing Shen Jianian’s words, her face flushed red with embarrassment, and her recently calmed nerves were once again in turmoil.
So Shen Jianian knew everything.
Compared to her timid assistant, Tong Yan was much bolder: "Does acting really matter that much? As long as the goal is achieved." Saying this, Tong Yan covered her lips in feigned surprise, "You didn’t secretly record again, did you?"
Shen Jianian remained unmoved.
Tong Yan laughed softly and continued, "Oh, I forgot, Mr. Shen’s phone fell into the water." She gestured at the nearby assistant with her hand.
Blushing fiercely, the young assistant walked over slowly and hung a white handbag on Tong Yan’s finger.
Tong Yan handed the handbag to Shen Jianian and gestured with her mouth, "Here, a new phone for you, you can get your number replaced at your own convenience."
Shen Jianian didn’t even glance at her, walked straight past her. She had expected Tong Yan to not behave herself in the group, but she hadn’t expected anyone could go to such extremes.
Tong Yan’s hand remained awkwardly suspended in mid-air, the atmosphere turning so awkward it seemed frozen.
"Shen Jianian," Tong Yan called out to her.
Shen Jianian did not look back, treating her like air.
"Shen Jianian!"
Tong Yan got annoyed, chased up and grabbed Shen Jianian’s sleeve. Shen Jianian twisted and shook her off, but the hem of her large sleeves was stepped on by Tong Yan, causing Shen Jianian to lose balance and fall into the lake.
Tong Yan’s assistant covered her mouth.
Shen Jianian couldn’t swim, flailing her arms in the water, struggling and sinking, swallowing several mouthfuls of water.
Tong Yan panicked, it took her several seconds to react and call for help: "Someone’s fallen into the water! Someone’s fallen into the water..."
As she shouted the second time, a figure quickly dashed past her and jumped into the water, pulling Shen Jianian to the surface and bringing her to the shore, where someone gave a hand to help.
Shen Jianian slumped on the grass by the shore, soaking wet, her long hair stuck together in strands, clutching her chest, she coughed several times and spat out water.
Tong Yan’s eyes were flustered. Everyone gathered around, she couldn’t just leave directly. At the same time, she was afraid Shen Jianian would badmouth her in front of the others, so she had to stay.
Fu Feibai, who saved her, was also drenched, wiped the water off his face, then wrung the water out of his robe, looked at the pale-faced Shen Jianian and asked, "How are you, do you need to go to the hospital?"
Shen Jianian shook her head.
"Where’s your assistant?" Fu Feibai looked around, couldn’t see the girl, but noticed Tong Yan’s flickering gaze, so he asked again, "How did you end up falling into the water so well off?"
"My assistant went to handle some things..."
Before Shen Jianian could finish her sentence, Tong Yan quickly explained, "It’s my fault. My assistant accidentally knocked Jianian’s phone into the water, so I sent my assistant to buy a new phone and bring it to Jianian. Who knew..." Tong Yan bit her lip, apologetic filled her eyes, her voice became much softer, "I didn’t notice, stepped on Jianian’s hem, she turned around unsteadily and fell into the lake."
Everyone looked at Tong Yan, then at the bedraggled Shen Jianian, having made a judgment in their hearts.
It was obvious to anyone that these two did not get along.
Shen Jianian was cold by nature, within the crew she only spoke a few times with Fu Feibai, privately she had no deep interactions with others, throwing herself wholeheartedly into acting, even the impossibly strict Wang Kelun would occasionally praise her insights as unique. In contrast, Tong Yan was lively, charming, and well-received within the crew. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
Initially, because Shen Jianian accidentally injured Tong Yan during filming, everyone had a poor impression of Shen Jianian, but after observing over several days, some things became clearer.
Shen Jianian was simple and pure, Tong Yan overly calculating, targeting Shen Jianian too obviously.
No one witnessed firsthand how Shen Jianian fell into the lake, who knows if Tong Yan did it on purpose.
"No, you wouldn’t think I did it on purpose, right?" Tong Yan was the first to clarify, her face troubled, "Just because Shen Jianian accidentally hurt me during filming last time, does it mean I’d take revenge?"
Fu Feibai let down his wrinkled sleeve, flicked his hand, took the towel handed by his assistant, chuckled lightly, "Someone’s heart words were spoken."
"What do you mean..." Tong Yan turned to look at the speaker, realizing it was Fu Feibai, purse tightened, tears welled up, "You can’t slander me just because you like Shen Jianian. Ask Shen Jianian yourself if I did it deliberately."
She couldn’t possibly be foolish enough to have pushed Shen Jianian into the lake in public, earlier she really accidentally stepped on Shen Jianian’s hem.
"I warn you, you can eat carelessly, but you cannot speak carelessly." Fu Feibai tossed the towel after wiping his neck to his assistant, looked directly at Tong Yan, his face stern, voice calm, rarely did he get angry, now all his anger was shown on his face, "I clarified during the dinner, Shen Jianian and I are friends, don’t spread rumors about me."
Labeled a "rumor spreader" by Fu Feibai, Tong Yan’s face turned red, didn’t dare meet his gaze, her heart pounded rapidly.
Shen Jianian, having mostly recovered, stood up from the ground, gave Tong Yan a cold look, and turned to leave.
Fu Feibai said to his assistant next to him, "Go ask the director for leave, then send Shen Jianian back to the hotel."
The assistant nodded and did as he was told, ran to find Wang Kelun, asked for leave for Shen Jianian, and went to catch up to her pace. Shen Jianian walked slowly, so the assistant quickly caught up.
"Mr. Shen, Brother Fei asked me to take you back to the hotel, he’s already asked for leave for you."
Shen Jianian suddenly stopped walking, not looking at the assistant talking to her, her gaze fell a few meters away, on that tall and slender man.
