Rotting Land: Survive-Chapter 466 - 463: The Crossbow Youth (Part 1)
Old Xu’s words immediately drew the attention of all the Survivors. Everyone was curious about how Xu Renjie was going to proceed with the climb.
Acheng looked up at the villa, which was about 10 meters high, and started worrying about Old Xu’s safety.
Old Xu didn’t pay attention to the glances from others. He carefully inspected the structure of the villa, and soon a drainpipe running outside the wall straight to the rooftop caught his eye.
"I’ll use this. Climb up to the third floor from here, then break in through the window!" Xu Renjie quickly planned his steps of action and started preparing.
"Damn! Lei, is your captain going to... climb up by hand?" Watching Xu Renjie’s movements, Wang Qiang asked Lei Tong, unsure yet acknowledging the possibility.
The latter nodded calmly, replying matter-of-factly, "Yeah! What other way is there?"
"Damn! Seriously, is it going to be dangerous? Can Old Xu manage?"
Wang Qiang’s question also echoed the concerns of the crowd.
To this, Lei Tong confidently answered, "Don’t worry. Our captain hasn’t won countless model soldier awards for nothing. Just watch and see!"
Lei Tong’s face showed a proud smile, evidently fully confident in Xu Renjie’s success.
Not only him, Wang Qiang noticed that the remaining soldiers also wore smiles, without any sign of worry about Xu Renjie’s actions.
Yet, no matter how you put it, it’s still a freehand climb. Although the soldiers were utterly confident, for ordinary Survivors, the concern for Xu Renjie was inevitable.
After finishing his preparations, Xu Renjie steadied and focused himself, then habitually spat, and leapt, grabbing onto the pipe.
Old Xu’s climbing method was very simple, relying on the coordination of his hands and feet to leap upwards.
However, no matter how simple these actions appeared, without training over countless winters and summers, an ordinary person would absolutely be unable to accomplish them.
At this moment, Xu Renjie appeared like a Spiritual Monkey, leaping up with his feet while using the momentum to quickly release his right hand from the pipe before grabbing onto it again, repeating this cycle.
All the actions were done in one fluid motion, earning cheers from the Survivors below, with all previous doubts wiping away like clouds under Xu Renjie’s seamless actions.
"How about it, Qiangzi? At ease now?" Lei Tong asked with a smug-looking sideways glance. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
Wang Qiang’s reply was only a sentence, "Awesome, absolutely damn awesome!"
During this conversation, Xu Renjie had already successfully reached the third floor. He reached out with his right hand to push the aluminum alloy window beside him, but unfortunately, the tightly closed window showed no sign of budging, evidently indicating that the latch inside was locked.
But this wasn’t surprising. The villa was located quite remotely, and the owner probably only visited during vacations, so locking the doors and windows was reasonable.
With the window unwilling to open, Xu Renjie didn’t continue to hesitate. Adjusting his body, he moved towards the air conditioning unit hanging along the wall edge.
His movements were quite relaxed, but in the eyes of the Survivors below, it appeared exceptionally precarious.
Ultimately, he successfully reached the unit’s location, and after a brief rest, Xu Renjie leapt up onto the open-air balcony on the third floor and then exerted himself to climb inside.
"Phew!" Upon landing, Xu Renjie let out a heavy breath. He hadn’t climbed for many years, and his sudden actions today were quite strenuous.
However, now wasn’t the time to rest. He steadied himself and turned towards the sliding glass door.
This should be considered a viewing room, but the outdoor space itself was over 40 square meters, nearly matching the area of an ordinary rental room.
Moreover, there were facilities for summer relaxation, including beach chairs and a sunshade on the balcony. It was evident that the owner of this house really knew how to enjoy life.
Xu Renjie walked to the handle of the sliding door, forcefully tried it twice, but the lock remained, unable to open.
At this juncture, old Xu had no choice. He casually picked up a chair from under the sunshade and began smashing it against the tempered glass of the sliding door.
"Bang! Bang bang!" After repeatedly striking four or five times, the toughened glass finally showed fine cracking.
Taking advantage of the momentum, Xu Renjie exerted all his strength, and threw the chair at the glass.
"Crack!" With a series of crisp shattering sounds, the stubborn glass finally succumbed after over two minutes, breaking into a heap of debris.
To this, Xu Renjie remained indifferent. He saw these glass doors as needing reinforcing with iron plates, so damaging one wasn’t a big deal.
Stepping past the debris, Xu Renjie entered the room, but hadn’t taken more than a few steps when a black shadow suddenly emerged from behind the corner of the door, and he heard a low command, "Don’t move! Hands up!"
The sudden encounter startled Xu Renjie, but upon seeing the face behind the Black Shadow, he loosened his grip on his right hand reaching for his waist, then slowly raised it.
In his view stood a slender young man with trendy curly hair and a shiny earpiece. If he hadn’t spoken, Xu Renjie would have thought him effeminate.
The young man was now aiming a Hunting Crossbow at Xu Renjie. Frankly, dealing with a kid like him, Xu Renjie could solve it with one arm.
Moreover, if not for confirming his identity as human in advance, Xu Renjie could have been already shot by a 92-style pistols and fallen to the ground.
Even with such a huge advantage, Xu Renjie remained inactive, for the reasons were clear: One, the person was human, and a child, so Xu Renjie had no reason to kill him; Two, the person was evidently the homeowner here and could provide information about the surroundings. Three, although they had barged in, despite the collapse of morality and legal system in the post-apocalyptic world, as a soldier, there were certain principles to uphold.
So, Old Xu tried to look as friendly as possible, then explained, "Young man, calm down. I’m a Survivor, without malice. Can you please lower the Crossbow?"
"Go to hell, you say you have no malice, so you have no malice? Don’t mess with me, I’m not an idiot!"
Perhaps due to the young man’s high tone, the uninformed Survivors below started shouting:
"Old Xu, what was that noise, is there someone in the room?"
"Captain Xu, what’s happening? Do you need us to come in and help?"
The sudden uproar undoubtedly further pressured the young man’s nerves, making him tremble and heighten his grip on the Crossbow while lowly threatening, "You, don’t want to die, so you better have them shut up, or I’ll..."
The young man’s finger tightly pressed the trigger, with his unstable emotions, he could release the firing string at any moment. (To be continued.
