Chapter 47: Debt 47 - New Levels and Rewards

The boss didn’t take long to show it wasn’t going to stay still.

Karol was the first to move.

She raised her staff and launched an arc of electricity that shot straight across the chamber and struck the spider directly in the head.

The enormous body shuddered.

Its twelve eyes blinked at the same time and its legs slammed against the ground hard, uncoordinated.

Stunned.

Ryan was already running.

He charged toward it in a zigzag, slipping between its legs as if he already knew every movement that massive body would make.

The boomerang sliced through one leg.

Then another.

Then one more.

In just a few seconds, four of the spider’s eight legs were lying on the ground, severed from its body.

Ryan took a step back and observed the result.

’So far we’ve faced several principalities, giant demons, sons of the Demon King...’

He looked again at the spider, which was still thrashing on the ground, barely able to support itself on the remaining legs.

’Is it that demons are really this active in this world, or have we just run into them by pure coincidence?’

He didn’t get to answer that question.

The severed legs began moving on their own across the floor.

And then they reattached themselves to the spider’s body.

Completely whole.

As if nothing had happened.

’Regeneration.’

Ryan frowned.

Before he could react, one of the legs rose with incredible speed and came down toward him like a massive blade.

Ryan took a sideways step without even turning his head.

The leg struck the ground exactly where he had been a second earlier, kicking up dust and cracking the stone.

Ryan already had the boomerang in motion.

He cut that leg off as well.

"Hey."

Karol’s voice came from somewhere to his left, sounding completely calm given the situation.

"I know it’s a bit late to ask this, but... doesn’t it seem strange that a priest is as agile as an assassin?"

Ryan turned his head toward her.

Karol was sitting on the ground a few meters away from the spider.

She had her staff between her legs, the upper part resting on her shoulder, with one elbow on her knee and her palm supporting her chin.

The staff looked visibly larger than her.

Because she had reverted to her child form.

Ryan looked at her for a moment.

And burst out laughing.

Seeing her sitting there with that serious face, the staff almost twice her size, making such a reasonable observation in the middle of a fight against a giant spider, seemed completely absurd to him.

"Don’t laugh at me." Karol frowned. "It was logical that I’d run out of mana. I’ve been fighting for a long time and the mana reserve in my staff is already depleted."

"Ha, ha." Helen was also laughing from her spot against the wall.

"You’re so cute..." Mirian couldn’t help but comment.

"Stop laughing!"

Karol pressed her lips together and frowned even harder, which in her small form ended up looking even less intimidating than she probably hoped.

Mirian then spoke in a calmer voice.

"Ryan has been like this ever since we cleared the Rank S dungeon. Somehow he gained a lot of power." She paused briefly. "But I don’t think about it too much. After all, we’re Rank S."

Helen nodded without saying anything else.

Ryan had stopped laughing.

He took a step toward Karol.

The spider was still moving behind him, its legs slamming against the ground with that heavy, metallic sound, looking for the right moment to attack again.

Ryan walked between the legs without rushing.

A blade came down at him from the left.

He dodged it by tilting his body without stopping.

Another from the right.

One step to the side.

He kept walking.

He reached Karol, who looked up at him from the floor with that serious expression that didn’t match her current size at all.

"Intelligence Blow."

The skill activated on her.

Almost immediately, Karol returned to her normal form.

She stood up, brushed off her clothes with her hands, and gripped the staff firmly.

"Thanks," she said quietly.

Ryan was already turning around.

The spider had taken advantage of the moment to reposition itself and was now charging toward them at full speed, all eight legs regenerated once again, lifting its enormous body several meters off the ground.

Ryan extended his hand backward.

"Fire Wall."

A wall of flames erupted right behind him.

The spider came to an abrupt stop as the direct heat hit its body.

Its front legs lifted and it retreated several steps.

Ryan watched it back away.

’After facing the boss on floor 75... this one feels a bit weak.’

The boss had been enormous in comparison, and its regeneration was impressive.

’But it’s just an insect.’

....

After the fire wall dissipated,

Ryan jumped over the spider’s raised legs, over its twelve eyes, landing directly on top of its head.

In mid-air, he activated his fire aura on the boomerang.

The two halves burned with intense orange flames.

And when he reached the peak of the jump, Ryan brought them down with full force.

The spider’s head fell to the ground, severed from its body.

The enormous body shuddered once.

And then went still.

Ryan landed on the fallen body of the spider and jumped down to the ground.

’Finally level 90...’

Helen and Mirian finally stood up from their spot against the wall.

"Not bad," Helen commented.

Something glittered among the remains of the boss.

Ryan walked over and picked it up.

It was fabric.

White. Dense. With a texture that didn’t seem like any common material.

He held it between his fingers for a moment and analyzed it.

’Rank A spider silk.’

"What is it?" Karol asked as she approached.

"Silk," Ryan replied.

"How heavy is it?" Mirian leaned in to look.

"Around thirty kilos."

"Since it’s from a Rank A dungeon, the guild will pay a good price for it," Karol commented.

"Then I’ll keep it."

Ryan opened his magic inventory and stored the fabric.

"Done."

He stood still for a moment.

He had accumulated stat points waiting to be distributed.

Enough that it was worth stopping to think carefully before continuing down the floors.

"Stat."
