Savage Ascension: Starting with God-Tier Plunder Ability-Chapter 64: Something Wants Him to Kill
Before cooling down from their sweat, which would make them vulnerable to the night chill, they had to gather firewood. The temperature would drop fast once the sun set completely. Yuval started collecting stones to block the campfire’s light, building a crude wall to hide their presence, while Merein and Rowan gathered firewood from the surrounding forest.
Everyone was too tired to talk, saving their breath for the work. Merein dropped branches several times, fingers refusing to grip properly. But without a word of complaint, she silently fulfilled her duty as a mercenary, picking them up and trying again.
"I’m dying."
Merein laid the firewood in the cave and collapsed right there. Yuval meticulously stacked stones, filled the gaps with dirt, then started arranging the firewood carefully in the center.
"I’m gonna go check if there’s any game around."
No answer came. Merein had closed her eyes, and Yuval just nodded.
Rowan didn’t return empty-handed. The crow Kaiya found some birds, and he brought back four strung together with nearby vines.
"Wow!"
Merein was thrilled, energy returning at the sight of fresh meat. Yuval handled the cooking with practiced efficiency. He skillfully plucked all the feathers, working quickly but carefully, and carefully removed the innards without puncturing anything that would spoil the meat. He even washed them using minimal water, precious as it was.
The two ate even the birds’ heads thoroughly, but Rowan didn’t. When he didn’t touch the heads, Merein asked.
"You’re not eating the heads?"
"Nope. You have them."
Merein’s hand moved toward the bird heads. The crunching sound made Rowan feel a bit creeped out.
"Night watch..."
They hadn’t decided who’d keep watch. They had two animals with sharp ears. Rowan closed his eyes and laid his exhausted body on the dirt where heated stones had been placed. Warm heat rose up.
He fell asleep quickly, but the night wind entering the cave made loud noises. Whenever the wind made big sounds, he woke up.
Whoooosh!
’What kind of wind...’
The wind blowing from the forest made fierce sounds as it entered the cave. He strongly felt they’d picked a bad spot, but nobody thought about moving.
He also realized that because wind entered the cave like this, wild animals hadn’t made their den here. For the three of them, it could actually be considered lucky.
Falling into deep sleep again, Rowan could see black smoke passing by his eyes. Though they’d died pathetically, Sen and Keireon were proving sufficient to trigger the black dream.
’Whoa!’
Rowan was startled to see a finger on his right arm that had been barely visible under the floor suddenly pop out further. He hurried over. It was a pale human finger, like a frozen corpse. Below it, a right arm was stuck in the floor.
The distance had gotten closer, so he could see it more clearly.
The moment he touched the finger, Rowan experienced a vision. Black smoke filled his vision and disappeared.
There was nothing visible, and he just heard sounds like hearing water flow while swimming underwater. He couldn’t smell anything. No, he couldn’t smell. He wanted to smell with his nose, but that action itself was impossible.
’Ah!’
Powerful force! Tremendous strength? No. Something stranger, different... some kind of power.
"Gasp!"
Rowan staggered as he woke from the vision. His right arm throbbed.
"Ugh."
The muscles in his right arm had cramped up tight. He forcibly spread it wide to release the muscles. He had to massage it.
’What is this?’
Rowan stared at the pale right arm with only the finger sticking out from the floor. The difference from before was that when he killed a human, the right hand now protruded like this.
’Can I use it if I kill more humans?’
Rowan had to conclude that. That’s what the situation suggested. But only now did Rowan start to seriously question this reincarnator’s special privilege.
’There’s something.’
Rowan felt goosebumps on his forearms. He strongly felt that something was helping him because it wanted something from him. He didn’t know who. But what mattered was that someday they’d meet.
He had to have that certainty. And whoever was giving him this power wanted him to kill humans.
’No way. Surely not.’
Rowan immediately dismissed that conspiracy from his mind. Too extreme a thought. Killing other life forms would show progress. Since he hadn’t killed other things, rather than wanting human hunting specifically, humans might just be included.
Something might’ve become entangled with his soul during reincarnation here. All sorts of transcendent methods appeared and disappeared in Rowan’s mind. The conclusion was that he couldn’t know anything for certain.
There were more than six black doors.
He checked them all one by one. In youngest Sen’s case, because he’d trained to become a scout, he was given related abilities.
For Shield-bulk Keireon, as Rowan expected, there was know-how related to heavy armor operation. Abilities fitting a heavy infantryman who fought at the party’s front were the main ones.
’The abilities I currently have are...’
Kill the Battle. An ability that made time feel like it slowed down when he killed something. The ability he’d realized existed in his first real combat against goblins.
Culture’s Right Foot, Barbarism’s Left Foot. Beast taming. He could only handle what goblins handled, and it wasn’t that impressive an ability. Just a grand name. He’d tamed the crow Kaiya with this.
Wolf Crown. He’d acquired the brown wolf Dono and learned goblin language and writing. Rowan thought it overlapped with Culture’s Right Foot, Barbarism’s Left Foot, creating a synergy effect. Despite the ability’s name, he’d learned goblin language and writing.
Sendabil’s Close Combat Tactics. An ability that forcibly granted him practical skills for handling various weapons and experience facing various types of humans.
For Rowan, who lacked real combat experience against humans, it was a honey-sweet ability.
Rowan touched the newly created black door and recalled the abilities to choose from.
[Ranger’s Survival Method]
[Gold-chasing ranger’s instinctive archery]
[Slave’s Trap Making (Wood)]
These three were the black doors gained from killing youngest Sen.
[Bull Fighting’s Heavy Armor Operation Know-how]
[Courage Without Judgment]
[Rough Intimidator]
Rowan began evaluating them one by one.
