Saving the Heartthrob Frenemy-Chapter 701 - 10 years later
Sounds of bunny slippers shuffling on the tiled floor under the weight of tiny feet as the twins, Li and Ruwen raced through the house. Their laughter echoed off the walls, filling the air with the pure joy that only children possess.
The game of hide and seek had begun, and their unsuspecting fathers were about to become their unwitting prey.
Qie Xieling who had suggested this game in the first place to get some space hid in the laundry room cabinet. When they decided to have a kid no one told him that it would be this exhausting. They planned on one but who would have thought they would have a pair of twins? Don’t get him wrong, he loved both his babies but he felt like crying from exhaustion.
He squeezed himself into the narrow space, knees pressed against his chest, and held his breath. The scent of detergent and fabric softener enveloped him, but he didn’t mind it. While sitting in the dark with only a little light seeping in from the small gaps in the cabinet he became drowsy. Just when he was about to pass out he heard the sound of the cabinet door being opened.
Thinking it was one of the twins he got up to come out only for a pair of long legs to appear before him.
"You, that’s my hiding spot. Go hide elsewhere," whispered Qie Xieling but it was as though Luo Muchen hadn’t heard him.
He sat down his eyes brimming with mischief. "Lin Lin, babe," he whispered, "let’s hide together. It will be fun!"
Qie Xieling scowled. "Fun? You won’t fit. You will just give me away."
But before he could shove Luo Muchen out, the opened slowly revealing the mischievous face of their daughter, Li. Her dark brown curls bounced as she clapped her hands. "Papa! Daddy! Ready or not, here I come!"
Luo Muchen’s eyes widened, and he gestured frantically for Qie Xieling to make room. They squeezed in together, limbs entangled, and pulled the cabinet door shut just as the little footsteps approached. The darkness inside enveloped them, and Qie Xieling’s heart pounded in his chest.
Li’s voice floated through the room. "Hmm, where could they be? Maybe behind the door?" The sounds of the door being swung were heard followed by a soft, "Oh." She began opening the cabinets but some of them had child locks on them so she failed to open them.
"Li Li! Hurry, I found Auntie Jun!" yelled Ruwen.
"Okay, coming!" she replied followed by the sound of her footsteps dancing away, and Qie Xieling exhaled. Auntie Jun was their live-in nanny and she was great with the twins but sometimes she also failed to keep up with their hyper energy.
"Are you tired? Do you want me to call Mum to pick them up," asked Luo Muchen his fingers going through Qie Xieling’s hair. Luo Shih loved having the kids over but the problem was that she spoilt those two a little too much. She and Hei Xiwen were a menace. By the time the twins returned home their sleeping schedule would be off and sometimes they would have enough sugar in them to take down an elephant.
Qie Xieling lay on Luo Muchen’s shoulder before saying, "I am but I can handle it. I just need two more minutes."
Luo Muchen kissed his cheek lovingly before saying, "How about I take them to the park and tire them out then when I come back we can play games together or... play adult games while they sleep."
Qie Xieling chuckled softly before saying, "After all these years you were still a pervert."
Luo Muchen smiled slyly before saying, "I am a pervert just for you, baby." He lowered his head slightly and pecked Qie Xieling’s lips. He wanted nothing more than to press him down and kiss him deeply but he knew they might get caught. It happened twice before. He kissed Qie Xieling on the balcony and Li was glaring at him through the glass window. She ran out yelling, "That’s my daddy. Mine."
Ruwen also joined in and he was accused of hurting daddy. The second time was when they were in bed and didn’t lock the door because Ruwen was sick. He could come in and sleep with them if he felt uncomfortable. Luo Muchen was pressing Qie Xieling down just kissing his sweet husband goodnight when Ruwen climbed on top of him thinking they were wrestling. Lo and behold Li came running too and thus for three days their bed wasn’t theirs alone anymore.
"I can ask my dad. He was asking about them," said Qie Xieling before continuing to say, "Your son is so mean. He pointed at a bottle of wine in the store and said Daddy that’s your juice. And when I put it in the cart he said take two just in case you get grumpy."
Luo Muchen, "..."
He honestly wanted to laugh but he restrained himself. "Why is it always me? The other day your daughter said I have a big butt and no more doughnuts for me," said Qie Xieling feeling like his kids had a personal vendetta against him.
"Wen Wen was just being nice and Li-er probably wanted all of the doughnuts for herself. She does love food like you," said Luo Muchen and he didn’t know he stepped on a landmine.
"So you think my butt is mmmm," said Qie Xieling before his mouth was covered. He was about to ask when he heard a set of footsteps coming their way.
Li said something about not being able to find their dads. The sound of Qie Ranzhe’s voice followed soon after. It seemed he had just arrived.
"Where would they hide in the laundry room? There is no hiding spot big enough for your daddy."
Ruwen laughed mischievously before saying, "No, Grandpa. They must be hiding in the closet!"
Qie Xieling’s eyes widened. The closet was his old hiding spot. It seemed Ruwen had figured it out. He shot Luo Muchen a look, but Luo Muchen only grinned, his lips dangerously close to Qie Xieling’s ear.
"Think of it as an adventure," he murmured. "Besides, it’s not every day we get to hide from our kids."
The closet door swung open, and Ruwen’s voice rang out. "Found you!"
Qie Xieling thought they could hide a little longer when Li’s voice followed. "No, Wen Wen, this is the broom closet. They’re not here."
Ruwen huffed. "How about in there?"
