School Hunk or Childhood Sweetheart?-Chapter 452 - 453: Sickness Comes Like a Collapsing Mountain
"They don’t need it, whether you choose to move or not..."
A conversation fizzled out to nothing.
The two parted ways, neither pleased.
Shen Tan stormed in furiously and left just as furiously.
Growing up, she had only ever suffered losses at his hands. She had believed they would never meet again in her lifetime, yet he unexpectedly reappeared. And now, he was even trying to fight for the custody of the two little ones.
The more Shen Tan thought about it, the more suffocated she felt.
Perhaps she hadn’t rested well lately, coupled with too much worry. She also forgot to close the window before bed, letting in a night’s worth of cold air, and ended up with a high fever.
She rarely got sick these years and didn’t dare to, probably even the heavens pitied her for having to look after two children.
Early in the morning, Jiang Yu heard a knock at the door. Upon opening it, he found a little fellow standing there. The child wore pajamas with a SpongeBob pattern, and anxiety was evident in their eyes.
"Shen Yan?" Though he had only met the child twice before, Jiang Yu recognized them at once.
Shen Yan pursed his lips and said to the man in front of him, "Mom is running a fever, can you help me take her to the hospital?"
Hearing this, Jiang Yu’s brows furrowed involuntarily. He then said to Shen Yan, "Wait for me a moment." After saying that, he went back into his room to get the car keys, and followed Shen Yan to the next door.
Inside the master bedroom.
A tiny figure was leaning by the bed, looking worriedly at the person on it.
Hearing the footsteps, they immediately turned around, full of concern, "Brother, will mom die?"
"No, she won’t. Mom is just sick, she’ll get better soon," Shen Yan comforted his sister.
Little Shen Ning finally turned to look at Jiang Yu behind him, speaking softly, "Dad, can you help us take mom to the hospital, so doctor uncle can treat her?"
"What did you call me?" Jiang Yu was taken aback.
"You’re dad, right?" the little girl looked up at him, her tiny face filled with expectancy and dependence.
"Yes, I am your dad." At that moment, Jiang Yu was overwhelmed with numerous emotions—frustration, regret, guilt, joy...
In the end, all that remained was a heart-wrenching softness.
"Don’t worry, mom will be alright." Jiang Yu had no experience dealing with children, and now, looking at the two small figures, he felt a tumult of emotions he had never felt before, both exciting and foreign.
He truly felt the sense of mission as a father.
Jiang Yu reached out, wanting to hug them, to comfort them, but afraid of scaring them, he ended up doing nothing.
He simply stepped forward, picked Shen Tan up from the bed, and then looked down at Shen Yan at his feet, "I’ll take mom to the hospital, you stay home with your sister and don’t wander off, can you do that?"
Shen Yan nodded his head.
Jiang Yu then carried Shen Tan out the door.
Sickness struck like a collapsing mountain.
Shen Tan was groggy and delirious with fever.
Right before stepping out the door, he heard little Shen Yan ask, "Can you take good care of mom for us?"
Jiang Yu’s steps hesitated for a moment, and looking at the two little ones gazing intently at him, he replied, "Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of her. Mom just has a fever, she’ll be fine after seeing the doctor."
"Thank you!" The words were serious, coming from a child who seemed like a little adult.
Jiang Yu looked at the small person before him, feeling an indescribable mix of emotions. They were supposed to be the closest people in the world, yet they were so unfamiliar to each other.
"Brother, will mom really be okay? I’m scared," the little Shen Ning behind him pursed her lips, trying to hold back tears as she asked.
"Don’t be scared, we’ll call Aunt Wei Yi," Shen Yan hugged his sister.
