Shen Tan woke up and found herself in the hospital.

Looking at the stark white ceiling above her head, her mind was momentarily blank.

"Awake?"

Hearing Jiang Yu’s voice, she nearly jumped off the bed.

Shen Tan stiffly turned her head and asked him, "Where is this? Why am I here? And why are you here?"

"You had a fever, this is the hospital," Jiang Yu explained.

Shen Tan furrowed her brow, "I meant, why am I in the hospital with you?"

"You fainted from a high fever, the children were very worried, so they asked me to bring you here."

Shen Tan was slightly surprised and felt a complex mix of emotions.

"Ningbao and Yanbao?"

"They stayed at home, you don’t need to worry."

Shen Tan didn’t respond; instead, she removed the IV needle from her hand, preparing to get up.

But Jiang Yu grabbed her wrist, "What are you doing?"

Shen Tan pulled her wrist away, "Going home, Yanbao and Ningbao will worry if they don’t see me."

"Your medication isn’t finished yet," Jiang Yu reminded her.

Though awake, it didn’t mean she was okay.

Shen Tan replied, "I’m feeling much better now," and after a pause, added, "Thank you for bringing me to the hospital."

Jiang Yu frowned, wondering if she always neglected her health this much.

"You still have a fever, and you can’t leave the hospital yet," he said, "They’re braver and more sensible than you think. I’ve told them not to venture out, so you needn’t worry."

How could she not worry?

She had fainted with fever, and the children must have been terrified.

"I feel much better," Shen Tan insisted on going back.

"Do you think in your current condition, you can take care of them? Going back now would only make them worry more," Jiang Yu said sternly.

"It’s none of your business," Shen Tan’s expression also cooled.

What she did was her business, and had nothing to do with him. Just because he brought her to the hospital didn’t give him the right to meddle in her affairs.

Shen Tan got off the bed, unsure if it was from lying down too long or the lingering fever, she felt weak and dizzy as soon as her feet touched the floor.

Jiang Yu quickly supported her, then pressed the call button by the bed.

"I know you don’t want me to interfere, but I promised the children I would take care of you." It was the first promise he had made to the two children, and he couldn’t go back on his word.

Soon, a nurse arrived, and Jiang Yu said, "Please change her IV."

"No need!" Shen Tan protested to the nurse.

The nurse wasn’t sure whom to listen to.

Jiang Yu firmly gripped Shen Weiyi’s wrist and told the nurse, "Don’t listen to her, change it."

Shen Tan was infuriated and tried to struggle, but she was too weak.

She didn’t know how a simple fever could get so severe.

Nor did she know that her fever had spiked to 40°C the night before and that, had it not been for the timely hospital visit, her life could have been in danger.

"Jiang Yu, what right do you have to control me? Who do you think you are?" Shen Tan was powerless, but her words remained sharp.

Jiang Yu held her wrist, looked at her pale face, and finally softened his voice, "Don’t worry, I’ve had my assistant go to look after them." 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

"Yanbao and Ningbao won’t let strangers in." The children had a strong sense of security and generally didn’t easily accept strangers.

So their turning to Jiang Yu for help came as a real surprise to her.
