School Hunk or Childhood Sweetheart?-Chapter 458 - 459: Heartache
"I just feel sorry for them..."
She felt sorry for their young age yet having to bear criticism, and sorry for their clearly wanting their dad yet never bringing him up in front of her.
She felt sorry for how small they were but how sensible they already were.
"Do you think I should try to get along peacefully with Jiang Yu for their sake?"
Before Shen Weiyi arrived, she’d been considering Jiang Yu’s earlier proposal.
Although marriage was out of the question, agreeing to let the other party live across the hall might be something to try to accept.
Shen Weiyi: "There’s no ’should’ or ’should not,’ you’ve already done enough for the two children. If you really don’t want to see him, you can let the children contact him on their own; you don’t need to force yourself."
Shen Tan didn’t feel forced; previously, she didn’t want him to have too much contact with the children, only because she feared he would discover their identities and fight her for the children. Now that he already knew, there was no point in her avoiding him.
If it would make the children happy, let him stay if he wants to!
"I’m fine, you don’t need to worry about me." She had made it through the toughest times back then. Now, it was just a matter of dealing with Jiang Yu. Could she possibly not handle it?
As long as he didn’t fight her for the little ones, as long as he didn’t take them away from her, he could do whatever he wanted.
"Alright, it’s good that you’ve come to terms with it. Don’t rush into anything, you still have me."
"I know!" Shen Tan said with a smile.
It’s said that once a woman has children, she has ties. Two women, who were already moms, sat for a while in the bar and then each went back to their own homes, to find their own kids.
When Shen Weiyi got home, Sheng Ting had just finished putting Bao’er to sleep. Smelling the alcohol on her, he asked, "Did you drink?"
Shen Weiyi: "No! I just went to the bar, I must have picked up the scent accidentally."
Sheng Ting: "Bar?"
"Shen Tan was feeling down, and I sat with her for a while. But we ordered juice, no alcohol," Shen Weiyi explained.
"Is she alright?"
So many years had passed, yet these two people’s tastes hadn’t changed.
"She should be!" After all, she could leave the kids with Jiang Yu, which probably means she has accepted his presence.
On the other hand, Shen Tan went back home and immediately knocked on the next-door room.
Jiang Yu came to open the door.
"Thanks for your hard work, I’ll take them back now," Shen Tan said looking past him.
But the room was silent.
Jiang Yu: "The kids played themselves tired, I had them sleep in the guest room."
Shen Tan had no intention of entering; standing at the door, she said, "Please bring them out then, I’ll take them back to sleep."
"Let them sleep here!" Jiang Yu said, "If you’re worried, you’re welcome to come in and take a look."
"No need, then I’ll come over to pick them up tomorrow morning." Having said that, Shen Tan turned and went back next door.
After taking a bath and lying in bed, Shen Tan thought she wouldn’t be able to sleep without the kids around, yet she fell asleep shortly after lying down.
Early in the morning, as Shen Tan opened the bedroom door, she saw the two little ones neatly dressed, sitting at the dining table. Upon seeing her, they cheerfully greeted, "Mommy, are you awake?"
"Mommy, daddy made us breakfast, come and eat with us."
Shen Tan instinctively looked towards the kitchen, and saw a figure busying themselves inside.
She hadn’t recovered from the shock of why the other was in her house so early in the morning when she saw him walking out with a breakfast plate and greeted her with a "Morning!"
Shen Tan looked at the two eager little ones sitting at the table and then back at him; after a moment, she managed to utter one word: "Morning!"
