Scumbag Fate System-Chapter 111: Confrontation (2)
"He’s coming," Reinhard quickly said. "My future sight saw him coming in five seconds and attacking the moment he saw us."
Victoria quickly grabbed Reinhard and phased them both through the wall into the adjacent storage room. They materialized just as they heard the office door open.
Through the wall, muffled but clear, came Professor Morphin’s voice. "—Yes, I understand the timeline. The girl will be vulnerable tomorrow during... what?"
A pause, and then he said. "Arnold was captured? By who? When?"
Who is giving these updates? No... Unless there is a helper inside the Disciplinary Department.
"I see. Then I need to move tonight and activate the emergency extraction. We need to leave, that man won’t be able to keep his mouth shut–"
Victoria phased back through the wall with Reinhard still in her grip. They materialized directly in front of Professor Morphin before he could finish his sentence.
Professor Morphin spun toward them with his already rising. "You—"
Reinhard’s precognition showed the attack coming; a stream of lightning rushed from his palm towards Victoria. But Victoria waved her hand, leading the lightning to twist around her before rushing back to Morphin.
He didn’t move as what he saw instantly happened.
Morphin’s eyes widened at the lightning coming, and he quickly burst out with crackles of lightning that clashed with the stream coming to him.
But then Victoria’s next retaliation came instantly.
Her spatial magic exploded outward in a visible wave. Space itself seemed to bend around her as her full Ascendant aura unleashed.
The lightning crackling around Morphin shattered, turning into specs of light to Morphin’s disbelief and Reinhard’s surprise. And then Morphin’s body was blasted off the ground before slamming into the wall. He tried to move, but the force continued to keep him, and soon he began gasping.
"Did you really think that would work?" Victoria coldly said as silver energy crackled around her body. The air distorted, making it hard for Reinhard to see clearly. "Are you more foolish than I thought?"
The pressure was so intense that even Reinhard struggled to breathe standing beside her. But it made him appreciate the terrifying power of a Hunter. Just their presence seemed to dominate everything, just like those guards. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
Morphin struggled futilely against the spatial force holding him. "I... I can’t... breathe—"
Victoria lessened the pressure slightly, just enough for him to gasp for air. "Talk. Why are you working with people who want to kill millions? What do they have on you?"
Morphin’s face twisted with desperate emotion. "My wife! They promised to save her! She’s cursed and is dying slowly. No healing Sigil or clinic on the continent can help her... But they said void energy could cure her! They said if I helped them, they’d use the distortion to purge her curse!"
Victoria’s expression shifted from anger to something colder and more disgusted. "So you’d sacrifice millions of innocent people to save one person? You’d help kidnap a student and use her as a tool for mass murder?"
"She’s my wife!" Morphin’s voice cracked. "You don’t understand what it’s like watching your special person waste away! The pain she’s in every day! I’d do anything to save her."
"But would your wife approve?" Reinhard asked.
The words made Morphin tremble before he looked away.
"Of course she wouldn’t. No sane person would." Victoria said with ice in her voice. "I don’t even want to hear anymore of your excuses. Just tell me everything, or I promise I will break every bone in your body slowly."
And to further show she meant business, Morphin groaned as Victoria’s eyes kept narrowing.
"You should hurry up." Reinhard sighed before crossing his arms. "Who are you working for? Which organization wants this continental Void Distortion? And where are they?
Morphin gasped as the pressure increased and bits of blood leaked down his chin. "The Void Assembly! They’re a group of Hunters who worship something called the Void Sovereign! They believe awakening will transform the continent into some kind of paradise!"
Of course, a damn cult...
"And Yor?" Reinhard demanded. "Why do they need her specifically?"
"They believe she has a strong connection to the Void Distortions!" Morphin groaned and quickly spoke. "They’ve been keeping a watch on her ever since she was a kid. They believed she could be the key to help them awaken the being they have been worshipping."
Victoria’s eyes widened. "They have known her since she was a kid? No, that doesn’t matter. How do they know she is connected to the Sovereign?"
"They told me it was the only way she would have gotten the Void Sigil!" Morphin gasped. "They have been monitoring every Noctyne for the last few decades."
For that long? Then that means they have been using every new Void Sigil user as a tool to unseal the Void Sovereign.
But have been failing if we assume they have gotten to them before. And Reinhard wouldn’t be surprised if they did, since all other Void Sigil users must have been desperate for any help.
"When?" Victoria demanded. "When do they plan to take her?"
Morphin’s laugh was bitter. "They plan to do it the next time she leaves the Academy."
"Where is their base? How many members?"
"I don’t know! I was just an information source! I only knew my piece!" Morphin’s eyes were wild with fear and desperation. "Please, you have to believe me. I never wanted to hurt anyone. I just wanted to save my wife!"
Victoria scoffed. "You should have come to us. We could have helped. Instead, you conspired with terrorists and endangered every student in this academy."
She released him, leading Morphin to collapse to the floor, gasping. Before he could recover, Victoria bound him with visible chains of silver energy that wrapped around his body like a snake.
"Professor Chen is busy with Arnold," Victoria said while pulling out her communication crystal. "You’re coming with me to the Headmaster directly."
She sent the message, then looked at Reinhard. "Gather all that evidence. Every paper, every crystal, and every document."
Reinhard quickly collected everything from the hidden alcove and the scattered papers. His mind reeled from the revelations, the Void Assembly, the continental distortion, and the fact that Yor had been targeted since childhood.
"Come, Reinhard," Victoria said while dragging the bound Morphin toward the door.
They walked through empty corridors toward the Headmaster’s office. Morphin stumbled along, pulled by Victoria’s magical chains. Reinhard carried the evidence that proved a conspiracy to kill millions.
They reached the Headmaster’s office, and the door opened before Victoria could knock. Headmaster Isaac stood there, his eyes glanced over everyone before beckoning them inside.
