Chapter 268: Chapter 268 : Yan Renzhong’s Illness (3)

The end of the fourth shooting period marked the departure of several cast members, some of which had been there from the beginning of season one.

That day, all of them received a huge bouquet of flowers and souvenirs from Dance Of The Dragons’ production team to remind them that they would always be a part of the drama.

Jin Zhuo was the saddest of them all.

Not because he particularly loved playing Xie Jianzhi, no.

It was because he had yet to get any lucrative offer for his next job.

Even Lang Yuxuan managed to score a bigger role in a movie under CNC Studio.

It was so infuriating that he specifically sought Wu Jin out to get some advice.

"Jobs come and go," Wu Jin said with a shrug. "Brother Jin, why so terrified of not getting a job? Take the time to relax. I mean, look, even Shen Jingwei only has one major role lined up in his schedule."

"Yes, but Shen Jingwei already earned a lot of money through commercials," Jin Zhuo remarked bitterly. "And I heard that several recording companies are actively approaching him to kickstart his singing career."

Wu Jin clicked with his tongue. The reminder left a bitter taste in his mouth.

His little trick with the music video ended up backfiring on him, promoting not only Yan Renzhong’s newest single but also Shen Jingwei’s name in the music industry.

With those two being inextricably linked, Wu Jin’s popularity began to wane.

And so close to the awarding ceremony of Kunlun Snow Lotus Award too!

It was too late to release another single. Not like he could write hit songs off the bat and release them whenever he wanted to.

Wu Jin chewed on his lips full of indignation.

Right now, he didn’t have the time nor the energy to care about Jin Zhuo’s acting career.

He had his own to think about.

"I already got you this role. You get to act alongside a diverse range of celebrities. Shouldn’t you make use of your newfound connections and search for new opportunities?"

Jin Zhuo swallowed hard.

"Yan Renzhong wouldn’t help me."

"Oh, the world doesn’t revolve around Yan Renzhong," Wu Jin said impatiently. "I am talking about Director Ma, Vice Director Qin, or the many producers who came to visit every week."

Jin Zhuo groaned.

"Can’t you tell me that on first day???"

"Duh, it is obvious," Wu Jin clicked with his tongue in disapproval. "What can you do without connections?"

Jin Zhuo quickly scanned the room for said prominent figures, but his face fell when he found them.

All of them were standing together in the middle of the room, engaged in an animated conversation with Yan Renzhong and Shen Jingwei.

Jin Zhuo cursed in a low voice.

"If I knew that sleeping with men is the way to go, I would not have wasted all those years in the acting academy."

Wu Jin laughed. He raised his glass to an acquaintance, who was smiling at him across the room.

Next to him, Jin Zhuo’s face was as dark as a stormy cloud.

Whenever he was this way, Wu Jin never failed to execute his art.

"Certainly, Shen Jingwei is taking the entertainment industry like a storm right now. Someone like him is probably, what, one in ten millions?"

"..."

Jin Zhuo was so angry he might just explode into pieces.

A knowing smile laced Wu Jin’s lips.

He liked playing people like Jin Zhuo the most. He didn’t even have to lift a finger. Only several provocative words were enough to douse Jin Zhuo’s heart in flame and keep it burning for days.

He personally did not have any grudges against Shen Jingwei.

But what did people tend to say, again?

Ah yes.

Hurt the one your enemy loved, and you would hurt him most.

Meanwhile, Yan Renzhong, who could barely focus on the gathering, sensed his phone vibrate in his pocket.

"Excuse me," he said before he stepped aside.

It was a message from Dr. Kang.

"Mr. Yan, please come to my office as soon as you receive this message."

"..."

The tone, with which the message was delivered, robbed Yan Renzhong of his sense of peace.

If there was nothing serious, why would the neurologist ask him to come as soon as possible?

Anyway, he needed to go and find out.

When Yan Renzhong returned to the center of the room, Shen Jingwei was no longer in company of the producers and directors. He was standing with Ye Lingxia, Lin Ruoye, and Feng Jietang.

"Oii, Little Yan, over here!" Ye Lingxia cheerfully called out to Yan Renzhong.

"Having a good time, Senior Ye?"

"Pretty much. Join us!"

Yan Renzhong discreetly put an arm around Shen Jingwei and leaned close to him.

"Jingbao."

"Hm?"

"I need to go somewhere real quick. Do you think you can go back without me?"

"Sure. Old Zhu can drive me."

"Alright. See you at home."

Yan Renzhong turned to walk away, but then Shen Jingwei pulled at his wrist, stopping him before he took another step.

"Hey." The younger man’s brows were furrowed in concern. "Is everything alright?"

Yan Renzhong did his best to school his expression into a neutral one, hiding the turmoil in his heart.

"Yes," he said.

At least that was what he prayed for fervently as he drove all the way to Dr. Kang’s clinic.

By the time he arrived, Dr. Kang’s practice hours just ended.

The last patient poured out of the building, followed by the staff Dr. Kang hurriedly sent home for the day. The place was practically empty save for the doctor, who was waiting anxiously in his office.

"How is it?" Yan Renzhong couldn’t stop himself from asking as soon as he closed the door behind him.

One look at the neurologist’s grim face told Yan Renzhong that he did not have good news to share.

"I am sorry."

Dr. Kang spread the brain scan results across his desk, right next to Yan Renzhong’s patient file.

"We’ve found an abnormal growth in your brain, classified as a grade three tumor."
