Secretly Mine-Chapter 146: Revelations
Chapter 146: Revelations
Room 712, 713...ah, there it is. Room 714.
I walked over to the door and tapped the keycard, unlocking it. The room was massive, featuring a living space as well as a full kitchen.
I took a step inside, noticing that Christian’s jacket was draped over one of the chairs.
He’s here already?
The room had a very faint smell of cigarettes, and as I walked towards the bedroom, the scent got even stronger.
He must be smoking on the balcony. Let’s see if I can surprise him.
Kicking off my heels, I crept into the massive bedroom, trying to stay as quiet as possible. As I approached the balcony, I could hear voices.
Oh? Is he on the phone?
Not wanting to disturb him, I continued to creep forward. From the blinds, I could see two figures, both male.
Christian was sitting on a chair outside, smoking, while another man was standing, facing him. Due to the way he was turned, I couldn’t see who it was, but I could hear his words.
"The court said that there wasn’t enough evidence to press charges... I still don’t understand why you’re doing this, Christian. You’re wasting your time bringing this guy to justice right now. If you wait until the Moresis are destroyed, he’d lose all of his backing, and you could send him to life in prison with the snap of your fingers!"
What?!
My eyes widened. I was about to turn around and wait for them to finish talking, but after hearing something about my family being destroyed, I couldn’t leave.
Christian let out a deep sigh, "You don’t understand. I can’t have him running free, Zach."
Zachary? Isn’t that Christian’s other friend?
"You’re right, I don’t understand, so please explain it to me! I want to know what’s gotten into you. Do you even want to do this anymore?" Zach’s voice was full of frustration.
"Of course I do! I went as far as getting engaged to the eldest daughter to do this! I want nothing more than to watch that auction house burn to the ground!" yelled Christian.
"And then what’s standing in your way? Ever since that engagement, you’ve gotten soft. Don’t tell me you’ve fallen for her?"
"No! Of course I haven’t! She’s a Moresi for fucks sake! There’s no way I would ever catch feelings for her," Christian yelled back.
I covered my mouth to prevent my gasp from being heard. Tears began to well up in my eyes.
This whole time....I was just being used?
My entire body started to tremble. A strong sense of nausea came over me as my stomach began to twist itself into knots. I slowly fell to the ground, sliding down against the wall.
"It’s just... It’s complicated, Zach," said Christian. From the floor, I could no longer see him, but I no longer cared. Christian’s words kept echoing in my mind.
"She’s a Moresi for fucks sake! There’s no way I would ever catch feelings for her."
It felt as if my heart was being torn apart. It was the most painful kind of pain that I had ever experienced, hundreds of times more painful than when I realized Christian had lost all of his memories of me.
"Fine, I get it. I’m just trying to help you. I’ll continue to push the court to do something, just promise me you won’t give up on this." Zach let out a deep sigh.
"Thanks, Zach. You’ve been a great help in all of this."
"Sure thing, man. I just want this to be behind you so that you can find happiness. Let me know if there’s anything else you need me to do," said Zach.
"Actually, I do have a small matter. I need your help me investigate someone. His name is Lucas Christaphori."
Why is he trying to investigate Lucas?
Their conversation was coming to an end. I quickly got off the ground and wiped the tears from my eyes. My mind was a mess, and I wasn’t in the mood to look at Christian right now.
Just as quietly as I entered the room, I left. I walked barefoot down the hallway, opting to take the staircase instead of the elevator.
I held my shoes in my hands as I quietly walked down the staircase. It was almost certain that the floor was dirty, but I didn’t care. In that moment, nothing mattered to me.
I was empty, like a soulless husk who was forced to breathe.
Christian’s words kept circling in my mind. No matter how many ways I tried to spin them so that they meant something different, no real possibilities came to mind.
"So that’s it? This entire time, I was nothing more than a tiny form of entertainment?" I mumbled, clutching my hand into a fist.
The hurt and anger were so strong, I wanted to burst out into laughter.
You should have seen this coming, Leslie. You told yourself not to fall in love!
Tears rolled down my cheeks at full force. I wasn’t even halfway down the first staircase when I fell to the ground and broke down crying.
All of our sweet memories played in my head. All of the gifts he’s given and the notes he wrote only made it that much more painful for me.
I began to ask myself when it was that I began to see him more than just a momentary escape. When was it that my heart began to yearn for him?
The questions only made my head spin even more. Leaning my head against the wall, I quietly sat on the dirty step of the staircase and allowed the tears to continue to flow down my face.
In a single instant, all of the color began to fade from my life.
I wasn’t sure how long I had sat there, but eventually the sadness began to shift into anger. The only thing that made me feel worse than knowing I meant nothing to Christian was the feeling of being used.
I was nothing more than just another hole to fuck.
