Seed of Titan-Chapter 144: Slowly Becoming a Grandson
Three days had passed, and Drai was still kowtowing in Misty Forest. He was starving and dehydrated, surviving only on a few droplets of morning dew in a vain attempt to quench his thirst. His bladder was starting to hurt too, but he didn’t worry about it too much, thinking that he would just heal any internal damage with some essence.
For Drai, three whole days were precious time that could’ve otherwise been spent training and gathering essence, probably around one-third’s worth of a level. But he didn’t care that his progress was stalling—this might be the only chance he would ever have here to reach the outside world.
Of course, violence was always an option, but Drai lacked both the malice and power to impose his will. Madeleine wasn’t just strong; she had also treated Drai kindly and had only kicked him out due to his persistent request. If Drai had a much higher EQ, he probably would have profusely apologized after his outburst before finding a way to persuade Madeleine. After all, he had all the time in the world along with his recently obtained social skill.
Unbeknownst to Drai, Max was still in the vicinity, constantly searching and waiting for him. Occasionally, he would go out to hunt but always returned after a few hours. He was almost certain that Drai was still in Misty Forest, perhaps searching for a way out of the thick fog deep in the woods or collapsed somewhere.
Meanwhile, Madeleine only took quick peeks at Drai using her skill between her tasks. At first, she snorted at the youngster’s actions, thinking that she wouldn’t be easily persuaded by such a primitive gesture. However, as time passed, she increasingly worried about Drai, especially upon witnessing that Drai’s complexion was steadily worsening.
Madeleine didn’t know that each time she peered through her fog screen, she was triggering Universal Grandson.
That was why on the morning of the fourth day, her stone house reappeared and she emerged from the entrance. With a flick of her finger, a cool mist enveloped Drai, removing the nasty stench, dirt, and sweat.
"Come in," she said as she turned around and disappeared into her dwelling.
Drai slowly got up. His entire body was stiff, but he refused to stretch, fearing that he would irk Madeleine and miss his chance.
Entering the building, Drai closed the door behind him and carefully walked through the playful fluffy critters that were scurrying across the room.
Just then, an object flew toward him. Catching it easily, he saw that it was a towel.
"Go clean yourself," Madeleine said. She was standing in the kitchen, cooking something.
Drai looked around but saw no bathroom door. Then, with a snap of her fingers, Madeleine revealed a wooden door to the left of the fireplace, next to the bookshelf.
’An illusion? Was this building’s disappearance also an illusion?’ he pondered as he made his way to the door.
Upon entering, a vintage-looking bathroom greeted him, complete with a shower, bathtub, sink, and toilet. However, there weren’t any hygiene products; instead, a wooden rack held colorful liquids in small bowls and bottles.
Closing the door, Drai began to shower, experimenting with the unknown liquids. Meanwhile, Madeleine was humming merrily in the kitchen, busily moving pans, pots, plates, and food around.
Around thirty minutes later, Drai finally came out, looking fresh. Immediately, he smelled a fragrant aroma, causing his empty stomach to growl loudly.
"Come here. Let’s eat first." Madeleine signaled him to come over to the sitting area.
Drai’s eyes instantly bulged upon seeing the lavish feast that Madeleine had prepared. On the coffee table, he could see a large plate of meat, a bowl of vegetables, a plate of fritters, and another plate of pancakes. There was also a large pitcher of a red drink beside a pair of cups.
"Go on, don’t hold back. I know you’re famished," Madeleine said.
Drai didn’t refuse. Sitting down, he took an empty plate and quickly filled it with meat and veggies.
Madeleine smiled as she watched Drai devour his first serving before refilling his plate. She didn’t know why, but being affectionate to this young man whom she had only met for several days gave her a sense of pleasure and satisfaction, something that she seldom felt before.
Only after Drai was on his third serving did Madeleine take a plate for herself. Her breakfast portion was moderate, to say the least, not even filling her whole plate.
As Drai had suspected, the red drink was some kind of juice, which tasted quite similar to the ones from outside. But its effect was potent, as Drai instantly felt invigorated, all his stiffness and soreness lifted.
Moments later, Drai slumped in his chair, his bloated belly feeling like it might explode. His complexion had returned healthy, even better than before his kowtowing.
"Thank you. That was the best meal I ever had since I came here."
Madeleine chuckled. "Then I must be the best cook in Siyeun Mountains. By the way, sorry I threw you out the other day."
Drai quickly straightened his posture, shaking his head. "Please, don’t be. It was entirely my fault. I was rude and selfish." 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
Madeleine sighed. "Who wouldn’t be when it comes to family? I also admit that your willpower is astounding. That’s part of why I called you in—you’d probably keep kowtowing for who knows how long, and I don’t want to wake up to a corpse on my doorstep."
Drai scratched his head in embarrassment, thinking that he was undeserving of her praise. He didn’t mention it, but he was sure that he’d probably stop his kowtowing the moment he ran out of essence.
Silence ensued. Drai waited patiently. He didn’t know if Madeleine only pitied his condition and just wanted to feed him, or if she had other plans in mind, particularly regarding his plea.
Eventually, Madeleine spoke up. "About your request, I can help you..."
Drai was stunned, not expecting her to relent this easily.
"...But there’s a condition—several of them, even."
Drai inwardly sighed. There were really not many freebies in this world. But he quickly regained his spirit, thinking about his parents, and perhaps, friends, that were nearing his reach.
"Please tell me about the conditions. As long as it’s within my power, I’ll gladly do anything."
Drai wasn’t too worried that Madeleine would assign him questionable tasks. After all, to his knowledge, there were only three humans around. Anything that he’d refuse to do mostly involved harming Max, and Drai was certain this wouldn’t require any help from him—Madeleine could just go out there and do it herself. But if it involved animal cruelty, he could probably turn a blind eye or make some excuses for himself to avoid any potential guilt.
Madeleine suddenly flicked her wrist, and a jerrycan flew over from a cabinet.
"Your first task is to get me some milk. I’ve run out of it for a while, so I couldn’t bake a new cake I’ve recently formulated."
